Dangerous A Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 The following bits come from the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer regarding Brock Lesnar and the NFL. In a story that will be reported shortly in the Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore Ravens have a serious interest in Brock Lesnar due to his speed and strength, as a special teams player. Team officials have already met with Lesnar twice. He hasn't played football since high school in 1995, where he was not a superstar player. He did not recieve any Division I football offers coming out of high school. He's been measured at 6-3 and a half, 290 ibs, and 9% body fat with remarkable size and agility for his size. Defensive End, the position he is going out for, is considered easier than most positions to master, but even those close to him that have watched him think it's a two year minimum. Lesnar had a 5/18 public workout scheduled, but cancelled due to injuries from his motorcycle accident where he suffered a broken jaw, hand, bruising his pelvis and pulling a groin muscle. He rescheduled the workout for 6/2, but aggravated his groin pull and it won't be until late June now. Green Bay, Philadelphia, Kansas City, Dallas, and San Fransisco were said by Lesnar's agent to be attending. Minnesota and Indianapolis reps also indicated they would attend. Dallas and Kansas City didn't confirm or deny and San Fransisco flat out denies interest in the workout. Green Bay and Philadelphia both confirmed interest and Baltimore said to be showing serious interest because of the two meetings, but have not yet set up a workout. He's said to right now have a 475 bench press and a 695 squat. Luke Richesson, the guy who trains him in Tempe, AZ said he's the baddest guy to ever walk into their famous training facility as for a combo of speed, strength, agility, and power, saying no one can match him. Nobody of his size can run as fast or jump as high, plus have the lifting power. Those at the gym say his work ethic is unbelievable. Richesson said he expected Lesnar would run a 4.5 40 at 290 ibs, which is almost unheard of for any human, but tempered that by noting his groin injury may hold him back. Colts coach Tony Dungy said if he runs a 4.7 with witnesses, people will fight over him, and at 5.0, teams will have interest. Comments and thoughts from all you TSM NFL fans out there?
MrRant Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I don't know how he will feel playing special teams for 2 years. It would be interesting to see if he can make it as a starting or even backup DE.
Dangerous A Posted June 5, 2004 Author Report Posted June 5, 2004 The article mentioned that he has a decent chance to make a practice team, but little to no chance of making the playing team unless he picks things up very quickly. Even still, with no college experience and not having played in close to a decade, his chances are very slim to even make special teams.
Dangerous A Posted June 5, 2004 Author Report Posted June 5, 2004 Damn, this didn't get any looks since I've posted it. Was there already a thread on this or does everyone think Brock has zero chance to make it in the NFL ?
Guest Vitamin X Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 We've seen guys go from grocery stores and working at beer factories make it into the NFL. There's a reasonably good chance that someone with the work ethic Brock seems to have plus the extraordinarily rare ability he has of speed, size, and strength that he can make a roster as a backup. Definitely at least practice squad material. Really, honestly, technique is a huge part of football but that can be taught. How many offensive lineman can try to compete with an NCAA champion who can run a 4.5 40 and push them around like nobody's business? 2 years seems like a reasonable time. 1 year to get him used to playing again, another to refine his technique, then go from there.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Brock Lesnar is a gifted athlete, but he's no football player. I don't think he has the football know-how to make it. He's extremely raw, but if he could be polished into a football player his athletic attributes will make him scary.
1234-5678 Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Eagles. It's got that sideshow aspect to it that's always fun.
Guest Choken One Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Ray Lewis and Brock Lesnar on the same side sounds intriguing.
NoCalMike Posted June 5, 2004 Report Posted June 5, 2004 Quite Honestly, if he is good enough to demand a double team from the oppostie line, then he is at least worth something. A lot of unsung heroes in the NFL are the lineman who demanded a double team, which cut down on their stats, but would allow the guy next to him to have a monster statistical year.
tbondrage99 Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I continue to hope that he makes it so that he will stay out of wrestling for a little while longer.
Art Sandusky Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 Lesnar is too much of a pure athlete and just plain genetic freak to pass up.
Vern Gagne Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 How does 40 time and the number of reps equate to success on the field? The great Mike Mamula was a workout freak, and he went down as one of the drafts greatest flops.
starvenger Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 I could see Lesnar going to the CFL, if he's serious about developing his skills...
the pinjockey Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 If he can run what he thinks he can, at 290 lbs. he will make someone's special teams. He could be a great wedgebuster for kickoff coverage with the force he would have. From there he would have his foot in the door and could develop other skills at that point.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 There is probably a good chance of someone using him as Tony Dungy said, I just don't think it will last as long as he may want it too.
2GOLD Posted June 7, 2004 Report Posted June 7, 2004 The idea of Ray Lewis and Brock Lesnar hitting Terrell Owens over the middle at the exact same time thus breaking him into three pieces intrigues me. Very much so in fact.
