Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 In that situation, you have a better chance of scoring a run if you just let Freel hit. He could move the runner to third on a single, or even score the runner on an extra-base hit. Use the sacrifice bunt, and you take away an opportunity. He could do that, or he could strike out or worse hit into a DP. Al, what about bunting in general? How do you feel about players bunting for base hits? EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 He could do that, or he could strike out or worse hit into a DP. The guy behind him could strike out. The batter could fail to execute the sacrifice bunt. A lot of things can go wrong in an at bat. You can not live in fear of them. Remember we're not just pushing theory. Numerous studies have outlined the importance of not giving up outs. Al, what about bunting in general? How do you feel about players bunting for base hits? I don't have a problem with it. The only time its completely nuts is when you use a power hitter to bunt.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted June 12, 2004 I hate Fox so very much right now. I can't watch the Red Sox because this Euro-Football League game is running late.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Palmeiro just hit HR #536 to tie Mantle for #11 on the HR list, and it gives the Os a 3-1 lead.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 This is so fucking retarded. Is this going to happen every week now where we have to cut to Bonds at bat? I can't imagine if I was a Sox fan right now and missing the game.
Cartman 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Well Manny hit a BOMB during that too...but the game in Boston is over still...nobody cares.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 And just like that Raffy passes Mantle with #537 and the game is tied at 5.

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Yikes Mark Redman gives up a grand salm to Ruben Mateo. Paging Joe Blanton... where do you live man? The game is not on tv here in Sacramento. I am following it on www.cbssportsline.com The A's are charging back though after Dye's RBI.
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 I'm following on mlb.com. Fox doesn't allow any games being televised locally during their broadcasts.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Around the majors. Royals beat the Mets 4-3. Angel Berroa accounts for three of the Royals four RBIs.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Hmm..Heres a scenario where sac bunting works! Bigbie at 2nd, no outs bottom of the 9th, tie game. Hairston with the sac bunt, pitcher throws to 3rd and the throw is late, Bigbie is safe at 3rd. Now Roberts is being walked to load the bases, still with no outs and Mora is up. Mora pops it up for out #1. Tejada up...and he hits into the old 1-2-3 double play to end the inning and force Extra innings..
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 would be nice if the Angels could go ahead and lose tonight.....

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Now if Hairston had hit, there's a 1 in 3 chance that he reaches safely, or even drives Bigbie home.
fairtoflair7 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Jesus Christ, the Mets buy a fuckin game...Between these 5 interleague games btw the Twins and Royals...the Mets have done nothing with runners in scoring position.Everytime they get either a strikeout, DP, or they just get plain unlucky with a amazing play or something.... The Twins extra inning game is a perfect example and today's game tops it off...just horrible stuff just when they need it to get into the division
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 It was just brought up on the Radio during the game that there's talk of a trade: Buddy Groom to Anaheim Ramon Ortiz to Baltimore
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Blah, Deivi Cruz of all people gets 2 RBI to break the game open and bring up Bonds..who drives in a run. 9-5 now..I dont get why Julio wasn't pulled earlier..
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Is Francisco Rodriguez having the best year of any relief pitcher? I'd put him above Gagne right now.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted June 12, 2004 As an Angels fan I am biased, but K-Rod likes to throw the heat - and he does so consistantly. Plus, I'll never forget what he did in Game 7 of the World Series in 2002.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted June 12, 2004 It was just brought up on the Radio during the game that there's talk of a trade: Buddy Groom to Anaheim Ramon Ortiz to Baltimore I'm not sure about this one. Seeing as the Royals are getting rid of Beltran and reports have a three-way race between Yankees, Angels, and Red Sox, I'd keep hold of Ortiz in case the Royals want him. Bored 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 The real Jose Mesa finally shows up season and thankfully against the A's. They have scored five so far in the 8th to take the lead 11-10 all on Mesa. Edit: And of course Arthur Rhodes blows it on the 2nd pitch...HOMERUN BY RUBEN MATEO AGAIN!!!!!!!! 11-11. Ruben Mateo?????????????????????? Why why why why why why why do the A's still think Rhodes can close?
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2004 Because only Duchscherer is having a better season. The great thing about the save stat is that Jose Mesa doesn't even get charged with a blown save, because he had a FOUR run lead, and not three runs.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2004 Did anyone notice that Bobby Crosby now has a higher slugging percentage than Miguel Tejada?
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2004 Jermaine Dye RBI single in the bottom of the 9th ends it, 12-11. Rhodes gets the vulture. A's have scored 58 runs in the last five games.
