Anakin Flair Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 LINK~ I think every U.S. citizen should either boycott 411 now or write a letter to the person running the site about stuff like this. I mean it hasn't even been a week and a bajillion of their Canadian born writers are pissing on Reagan's grave. Try to tell them they're foolish about it and they call you right wing filth. I personally am deleting the 411 links from my favorite places. First off, Eric S. is an American. Second off, the same shit happened when Eric S. made a remark about Barbara Olson after 911 (this shit got him kicked off of TheSmarks). I used to read Eric S. all the time (not so much anymore) and while I don't agree with some of the stuff he says, I recognize his right to say it under the 1st amendment. He's stated long go that he'd have things to say about Regan when he passed. Now, I liked some of the things Regan did, didn't like the rest. I'm sorry he's dead, though I'm glad his suffering is over. But I'm not going to get upset over coments made by a writer on a wrestling news site. Take a pill and get over it.
Guest thebigjig Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Oh, while we're on the subject of death, I'm calling it now: When Reagan's memory is honored at the GOP Convention, either Big Media, the DNC, or both, will try to compare it to that political rally that was disguised as Paul Wellstone's funeral a few years ago... You mean the 10 minutes or so of the several hour long memorium? I always found it funny that the media insisted on playing the footage of the "pep rally" over and over again, making it seem like the entire thing consisted of Democrats stomping and cheering
Guest thebigjig Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I can't wait until the Republicans start to cheaply exploit Reagans death for their own political gain... and the responses we'll get from guys like Mike who will defend this exploitation until he's blue in the face
Guest netslob Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 (netslob @ Jun 8 2004, 08:39 PM) ok, i'm probably gonna get banned for this ('cause heaven forbid i show a dissenting opinion), but who cares. it's just ONE man's opinion. Eric has said more then once over the years that he hates Reagan...not just dislikes, HATES him. and he posted a good number of reasons for that hate. Including this gem. Destroying the Twenty-Year Rule by surviving Hinckley's shots. I hope Eric's ceiling caves in on him. like i said, it's ONLY HIS OPINION. big frickin' deal. Oh, and can a mod please ban netslob? I don't know why; it just seems like the thing to do... do what you gotta do...i'll try and get by.

EXCELLENT point, Naitch...couldn't have said it better myself...in fact, i didn't.
Guest whatitistoburn Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Well then when you die I hope people that dislike you go spouting off the things they disliked about you to your loved ones, since that's what you're condoning here. So when Saddam dies, you're gonna be respectful for the week after his death, right?
The Czech Republic Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 "Burn in hell, you motherfucking cocksucker. Burn in hell." "going out to deposit an unemployment check" You're pathetic. I'm glad Chicago can't claim you any longer.

It was really bad though. Mondale rightly lost for people in his party improperly using a venue for political attacks.

So when Saddam dies, you're gonna be respectful for the week after his death, right? And now you're comparing Ronald Reagan to Saddam Hussein No, I didn't. Let's all hold hands and work through these steps together. Eric S. says something bad about Reagan. Fridge takes offense to this. SO much so that he says Eric S deserves to be beat up because he decided to use his 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. He also throws down a set time of rememberence (it hasn't been a week) before one can piss on his grave. TheAustralian said "But surely we need a bit of perspective on the man, with Fox, Cnn and the like telling us how great the man was we need to remember the bad things this man did." Fridge responded with the quote that I responded to. In effect, he says that no one should say anythign bad about someone after they die, at least not for the first week. So, in response I make a statement asking if he will respect the memory of Saddam. Did I compare the two men? No, I gave a different situation. The point I was trying to make was that it's easy to get your feathers ruffled when someone says something bad about someone you like. However, to promote violence against them is just as stupid and ignorant. And so, if you're going to make a big deal about what people say about someone you had respect for when they died, then you'd also have to be respectful of someone you hates death.
Guest MikeSC Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I thought Eric S was. If he's an American citizen I hope somebody on the streets beats him up. I do know that Scott Keith and one of the 411 Music Reviewers are Canadian though and have shat on Reagan's memory. Eric S is from Chicago. He got fired from thesmarks after 9.11 when he said some disparaging things about Barbara Olsen. And 411 has lots of good writers who don't think of President Reagan as a bad guy. I'm one of them. Well except for the good writer part Oh, let's not sugarcoat what the poster child for abortion said. He basically said she DESERVED to die and he's glad she did. I wish he'd go back to approving rotting meat for schoolkids. -=Mike

You mean the 10 minutes or so of the several hour long memorium? I always found it funny that the media insisted on playing the footage of the "pep rally" over and over again, making it seem like the entire thing consisted of Democrats stomping and cheering Umm, that's exactly what it became. It was HARD to ignore it. -=Mike
bob_barron Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I didn't feel like remembering what exactly he said about Olsen- so I figured I'd just give the bare details. Eric S used his First Amendment rights to say bad stuff about Reagan. Frigid Soul used his to call Eric S a worthless fuck
Highland Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 ok, i'm probably gonna get banned for this ('cause heaven forbid i show a dissenting opinion) The best line in this thread.
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 whatisittoburn is comparing TheAustralian to Saddam Hussein, not Ronald Reagan to Hussein. He is however implying that its ok to spit and piss on the memory of a man who helped end communism, but not Hussein.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Wait....so this guy has a past of being an ignorant fuck wad (Eric Szuluwhowhatsit that is)? Ugh...it's always the bad people that don't get what they deserve....in his case, a switch kick in the balls from God.

Actually I believe we should have the ability to spit on the memory of anyone we would like, be he evil dictator or former actor. You're the one who said people should be beat up for not thinking the way you do.

He's pointing out the absurdity of the "Don't criticize the dead" mentality because, rest assured, the day Osama or Saddam die --- I will laugh my ass off. However, the f'tards who write for that site seem to mistake venom for thought. He has no clue what it takes to gain an audience through talent or writing skill, so he is simply the train wreck by the side of the road. -=Mike

They all have some gimmick, usually those based around pissing people off in some respect. That's why they all have some semblance of an audience, but as anything else, they appeal to a particular sector of the internet. In the end, I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I just find the arguement kind of weird. And on that note, I'm done.
Slayer Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I am quite amazed and surprised the mods haven't pulled the "THEY DON'T WRITE HERE DON'T TALK ABOUT THEM~!" card yet
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Once it got away from you-know-who and got into a real discussion, I think it's in the clear.
Guest MikeSC Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I am quite amazed and surprised the mods haven't pulled the "THEY DON'T WRITE HERE DON'T TALK ABOUT THEM~!" card yet I figure it simply gets more people to laugh at those talentless dolts. -=Mike
Guest FrigidSoul Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Actually I believe we should have the ability to spit on the memory of anyone we would like, be he evil dictator or former actor. You're the one who said people should be beat up for not thinking the way you do. Ronald Reagan was THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Not just an actor. As previously said, this is a man who helped end communism. He isn't somebody who used biological weapons on his own people, blame it on another country, and then ask for their support. I personally won't celebrate when Saddam is dead though because quite frankly he's out of power and can't do shit. I amongst others though gave a sigh of relief when his sons died, and if you can't understand the reasoning to why that is ok then you're a lost cause.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 I was only like THREE when Reagan's term ended, but I still respect the man for being a president. Even Richard Nixon got a presidential send-off, despite being possibly the biggest black eye in presidential history. But he was WAY before my time, so I'll leave well enough alone.
Guest MD2020 Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 Let's not forget that Eric S. is a 40+ year old guy whose biggest claim to fame is writing an Internet column on wrestling. I like wrestling and all (hence the reason I'm on this forum) but God damn that's pretty fucking pathetic. I haven't really read his columns for a while, but I never recall him mentioning a wife or girlfriend, or any kids. After the wrestling portion of his column--some of which I agree with, some I don't--it's basically his political opinions, his mental diseases (which I am sorry he has--I wouldn't want anyone to have) and then his work or non-work activities. That's basically his entire column, with a little sports thrown in. It's pretty sad. To tell you the truth, I pity him a little.

Watergate is FAR down on the list of black eyes on American history... And everyone has a right to his/her opinion... Reagan was not a saint. However, I am a firm believer in good/bad taste, and some of the things I saw in the hours following his death were pretty disgusting...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted June 9, 2004 Report Posted June 9, 2004 ok, i'm probably gonna get banned for this ('cause heaven forbid i show a dissenting opinion) Just STFU already. It's been proven as long as you aren't a total shithead about your beliefs that you won't get banned on this board. If you want to troll and threaten the President like Unger did then you deserve to get the boot.
