Guest Trivia247 Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Credit: PWInsider Thanks to Brian Washington for sending in the following: Just thought you would be interested in hearing that Rob Van Dam made one of his periodic appearances on the McDonnell/Douglas radio show in California this afternoon. He called in to promote the appearance of WWE Diva Stacy Keibler at his Five Star Comics store in Lakewood. He had some pretty interesting comments about how he felt that it was good that he was on Smackdown due to the fact that it was a different locker room and the fact that the roster was filled with a lot of younger workers. He felt that by going to Smackdown it would give him a better chance to get to the top tier. He also put over the European fans, especially the Italians. He said that on the recent European tour that the fans in Milan popped really hard due to the fact that it had been over fifteen years since they saw a WWE show. Also, his interview was interesting by what he didn't say. When Joe McDonnell questioned him about the recent controversy concerning John Bradshaw Layfield and his Heil Hitler salute, Van Dam refused to comment on it. I wonder if he didn't want to say anything because he was pressured not to by management. Anyway, RVD came off in his usual casual manner and it was a pretty good interview
Art Sandusky Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Yeah, I seriously doubt any WWE employees are allowed to publicly comment on it just yet, or probably for the next month. I'd rather they not talk than tow some company line and defend it.
Guest Goodear Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 You'd think the 'guy who is waiting for his contract to expire so he can leave that WWE hellhole' wouldn't care. Oh well.
haVoc Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 He's going no where. WWE is a steady pay check and they help him with his store. Also, he's getting older and been poisoned by WWE style. The young cats in ROH, TNA, Indies, would show this "old" dog up.
Art Sandusky Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I think RVD could still bust out a spotfest if he felt like it. That's the problem, motivation.
Si82 Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I think RVD could still bust out a spotfest if he felt like it. That's the problem, motivation. I would agree with that statement. RVD has seemed highly unmotivated for some time now. Even more so since the move to Smackdown. However, he claims to enojy being on Smackdown so maybe he is just an "old dog". I am surprised that he didn't comment on the JBL thing. I mean, the guy has hardly been silent in interviews before when being under contract with WWE. Last year for instance, in a radio interview, he said about how he prefered working for ECW to WWE, how the locker room was a politcally-senestive environment, and how he wasn't pleased being booked to job to Kane while others (Shane McMahon) got the glory). I just seems odd he would keep him mouth shut now when he doesn't really have a lot to lose.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 IMHO, I would have to say that since it seems as Bradshaw is Vince's new toy.....RVD doesn't wanna fuck up any chance of him getting a push by commenting.....
Only The Strong Survive Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Maybe the fact that he's talking about having a better chance of moving up the card on Smackdown is really his way of showing some loyality to the company after being so blunt about his feelings towards his situation in the past. He's probably hoping someone will look at the interview and become convinced that he should be pushed, and then it would happen.
Guest CronoT Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Maybe the fact that he's talking about having a better chance of moving up the card on Smackdown is really his way of showing some loyality to the company after being so blunt about his feelings towards his situation in the past. He's probably hoping someone will look at the interview and become convinced that he should be pushed, and then it would happen. Either that, or there's a gag-order on all the wrestlers right now. Vince probably thinks that if he keeps everyone on his side quiet, it will eventually die off. Vince thinks nothing of the IWC, so he's simply considering them irrelevant. It's also probably a possibility that Vince, one of the bookers or the road agents told Bradshaw to do it. Remember, Vince was ready to go headlong into a character that would seriously make fun of the Japanese Emperor. Whatever gets him the most heat and exposure, he doesn't care.
syxx2001 Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 D'Lo came out in TNA amazing, and RVD is better than D'Lo is, so RVD could do some wild shit given the environment and chance.
Guest KingofHarts Posted June 12, 2004 Report Posted June 12, 2004 I Think the Problem is he took his High Times man of the year award too seriously. He always looks stoned out of his mind.
Guest Holzhammer Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Yeah, I seriously doubt any WWE employees are allowed to publicly comment on it just yet, or probably for the next month. I'd rather they not talk than tow some company line and defend it. Big Show commented on it. He said Bradshaw is a great guy and he just said it because it fit his gimmick. He said that he knew Bradshaw didn't mean to insult anyone with it. Of course, Bradshaw isn't that retarded that he thought it wouldn't insult anyone. Just a desperate, heatless heel vainly attempting to get at least one fan to boo him.
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I think it would take a long time for most to consider RVD a legtimimate uppercarder, even on the SmackDown! brand.
clean rob Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I think it would take a month tops. Bradshaw is in the main event of Smackdown, and he was in a midcard tag team for years on end. RVD has been an upper midcarder for plenty of time now, plus he actually gets a good crowd response.
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 I think it would take a month tops. Bradshaw is in the main event of Smackdown, and he was in a midcard tag team for years on end. RVD has been an upper midcarder for plenty of time now, plus he actually gets a good crowd response. Why would you push a guy who may jump to TNA in a month? It would be a terrible business decision. Ignore his talent for a moment. There is absolutely no chance he will be pushed unless he resigns.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 RVD interview, Not gonna talk about it no no no Am I the only one who thinks that's the most meaningless subject line we've had here so far?
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 If you have no idea what it means, than yeah, but I'm assuming the regulars of this folder would know since the thread about the situation is still going on after about a week.
Guest Trivia247 Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 RVD interview, Not gonna talk about it no no no Am I the only one who thinks that's the most meaningless subject line we've had here so far? didn't realize a sentance was suppose to derive some personal use for people. worked enough if you came on the thread to complain about it.
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 RVD interview, Not gonna talk about it no no no Am I the only one who thinks that's the most meaningless subject line we've had here so far? It describes the interview well. RVD won't talk about the incident.

Ignore his talent for a moment. There is absolutely no chance he will be pushed unless he resigns. And then you hit the question, why would a guy sign when he has never been given any indication the company sees him as important to the future? These two are really at a point where they need to work out their issues or split. RVD doesn't seem to believe they will give him a chance with the ball and the WWE doesn't seem to believe he deserves the ball to be given to him. I'd imagine he wants to stay with the WWE for his family but at the same time he does have a competitor spirit that wants to be the best and on top.
Guest Trivia247 Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 Unless Paul Heyman was personally booking Smackdown and not Pritchard perhaps maybe they could find a way to book RVD properly. Unfortunately there isn't too many titles to win anymore since we are back in the 80's timeframe of three male titles. World IC/US Tag There is some Nth degree as to why RVD never really got a World title shot (Those matches vs HHH and SCSA aside) even in ECW he didn't go that route either. Perhaps there is something of his backstage conduct or something that we as fans are not privy too.
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 And then you hit the question, why would a guy sign when he has never been given any indication the company sees him as important to the future? Its too late to fix that now. Any bad blood will still be there in a month, and if they do push him he will take it as they are only pushing him to get him to resign and will drop him down the card as soon as he does.
Guest El Satanico Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 They could show commitment to him without giving him an all out push to the top. Then if he resigns they could give the push.
Guest Trivia247 Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 They could show commitment to pushing him without giving him an all out push to the top. Then if he resigns they could increase the push. At least throw him on TV more than they do and no in tag teams but in various nonmeaning Singles matches with various heels.
Jobber of the Week Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 It describes the interview well. RVD won't talk about the incident. It would help if it said "RVD interview, won't talk about ___________" with ________ being whatever you're talking about. As far as I've seen, the Bradshaw thing is * D O N E * . All the action you're going to see taken has been taken, and any more focusing on it is simply piling more dirt on the same grave that isn't going to get any deeper.
The Czech Republic Posted June 13, 2004 Report Posted June 13, 2004 RVD interview, Not gonna talk about it no no no Am I the only one who thinks that's the most meaningless subject line we've had here so far? Somebody's never read a MikeSC-started thread.

Ignore his talent for a moment. There is absolutely no chance he will be pushed unless he resigns. The only reason they would push him is to have RVD resign a new contract, but what's the point if Vince and management feels that he is not main event material, they would rather push Holly or Crapshaw instead of a guy that's actually over with the fans. Is WWE afraid of Rob leaving to TNA? Or they feel that RVD is a valuable asset to SD?
Black Lushus Posted June 14, 2004 Report Posted June 14, 2004 i've never cared for RVD since he came to the WWE anyway, he never seemed to fight in anywhere, so I could care less if he jumped to TNA, maybe he'd make a better impact there...
