This is a band that took the best of STP, and the best of G'nR, and kicks some serious ass. I got the CD for free by winning $103 and the disc from the local station, and have loved listening to it since.

Agreement, disagreement, etc. I'm sure this pisses off some of the G'nR fans on the board, but hell, what can you do.

I hated it when I first heard it just because I was hoping it'd be more like GNR. I eventaully realized that it isn't horrible, it's just so average. I think they definitely should have gotten a different singer and maybe gotten some help with the song writing too.

I'm shocked Sid Vicious returning from the dead has received such little fanfare. Here I'm thinking returning from the dead would be majorly news worthy.

Through my first listen, I was about ready to return it to the CD store because I felt I had been ripped off. However, 'Sucker Train Blues' grows on you like you wouldn't believe, and the rest of the album's high points, such as 'Set Me Free', 'Slither' and 'Loving The Alien' are good enough to make it worthwhile.

Plus, you know, it has Slash in it.

I didn't expect it to be any ground-breaking, and it isn't. The album is still a decent effort though, but really needs time for you to listen through more than once so you can get into its groove.

3 out of 5.

I love it. I'm a huge fan of Scott Weiland and him teaming up with Slash was only ever going to be a good thing. I thought Dave Kushner was fantastic too actually, I was surprised. I'd like to think they'll only get better from here too.

The thing is: I hate, hate, hate G'nR. And I think it all boils down to one person: Axl. Damn he pisses me off. Especially the voice.

Velvet, however, has been stuck in my head ever since I first heard Slither. And that's a good thing. There's a couple slowpoints on Contraband, sure. But it's still a very good album.

It garners an 8.5 from me on the old 10 point scale, because I don't deal with snowflakes.

So terribly generic.

I agree 100%. They should've had Izzy stick around to help with the songwriting. "Fall To Pieces" is literally one of the worst rock songs I have heard in the past few years, probably because I had such high expectations for it.

I do remember liking "Loving The Alien" though, and "Slither" is sorta catchy. The lyrics are mostly crap though.

Despite seemingly mixed feelings on VR everywhere I go, the album has been selling really, really well.

VELVET REVOLVER's "Contraband" looks likely to top the Australian album chart next week, according to Undercover News.

The band fronted by former STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland and backed by former members of GUNS N' ROSES, including Slash on guitar, debuted at number one on the Australian HMV midweek chart.

As previously reported, "Contraband" is on track to sell well over 200,000 and possibly into the 250,000 range during its first week of release in the U.S.

In other news, Weiland recently told Launch Radio Networks that many of the songs on "Contraband" were inspired directly by problems he and his wife have had: "We went through a very painful separation, you know, and I was estranged from my family for almost a year. And I was suicidal during that time, you know. And there are references to that on this album. It was purely the love for my children that kept me from wiping myself off from this planet."

Weiland and his wife have two children — a 3 1/2 year-old son, and a daughter who's nearly two.

Weiland also said that these days, his family is happily reunited: "My wife and I are back together now, and we are happier than we've been since our honeymoon. And, you know, I'm so happy that I did not snuff myself out."

I've also heard that Contraband has shipped over 250k copies in the first week alone. Wether this holds up or not is debateable, but it looks as though VR may be debuting at No.1 in several countries.

Following the lead of Audioslave, taking two great bands and putting them together isnt always a great thing.

Nothing I found from Velvet Revolver has any greatness, only the mediocre money machine ideas. Grindingly exhausting.

Oh he's been getting em since he came back in 2002.

1. Matt Damon's "out of breath" Axl on SNL

2. VH1' Ill-ustarted, showing Axl working at a McDonald's

3. Eminem dressed as Axl at the Movie Awards

4. Revolver hitting #1 in the states

5. GNR "Behind The Music" without his involvement

6. Being sued by Slash and Duff for not using GNR songs in movies

7. Geffem releases Greatest Hits without his consent

8. Buckethead quits

9. Being made fun of on E's "Starlicious Makeovers" for his alleged plastic surgery

10. The Offspring claims they are going to call their new CD "Chinese Democracy: You Snooze, You Lose"

It's been a hell of a ride for Axl recently

well if he'd nut up and bring that damn album out then things MAY go better for him...provided it's any good...nothing worse than making people wait years only to bring out a sucky album...what are the details on this anyway? there better be about 20 songs on this sucker for all the years we've been waiting...

back on topic, VR is alright, nothing spectacular...i just got it because I'm a GNR mark and i have almost every album with a former GNR guy attached to it...Weiland isn't very good hear either, the guy seems to have lost it vocally...must be the heroin...

The details are Axl wanted 3 albums done before he started seriously touring. According to GNR bass player Tommy Stinson, Axl has now taken over production for the albums, and Buckethead's parts will stay on.

5. GNR "Behind The Music" without his involvement

Has that aired on TV yet? I remembe reading that there would be one, but I haven't heard when it'll be on.

Bah...stupid Axl. Dropping an album a year for three years? Somehow, due to the short attention span of the American music industry, I think people will lose interest. Plus, ticket prices for his shows will be up the ASS.

It was supposed to debut today actually, but was delayed until June 30th for reasons unspecified.

Axl needs to suck it up and do the interview. Put on the bandanna, the big rim horn sun glasses, grow out the beard and do the fuckin' interview so he doesn't get buried even deeper. Even though he deserves it....

I'm just starting to feel bad for the guy. It is clear he has deep seeded emotional problems, and fear of failure of any kind just terrifies the shit out of him. All this media backlash is just going to keep him away longer.

Well, it looks like VR hit No.1 in the United States. If that isn't the proverbial 'Take that Axl, you bitch', then I don't know what is.

Velvet Revolver Shoots Straight To No. 1

Velvet Revolver smuggles its debut album "Contraband" right into the top slot on The Billboard 200. In its first week, the rock supergroup's RCA set sold 256,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The group is a consortium of ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland. Last week, first single "Slither" reached the top of Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The band is in the midst of its first North American tour.

I wouldn't call VR average...better than average, but not one of those absolute amazing things that you should sell your first born to get a concert to.

Then again, has anything really ever been that good?

First, a short history:

I am the biggest Stone Temple Pilots fan and have gone through trials and tribulations with Scott Weiland and how STP's music style changed over the years.

CORE is easily their best effort, followed by PURPLE and then NO. 4.

The albums where I get lost are TINY MUSIC.... and SHANGRA LA-DE-DAH.

With GNR, I consider APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION (along with CORE) in the top ten of greatest rock albums of all time. GNR LIES, was a weak follow up, but defintely produced two classics. Then the Illusion albums and whatever else they did (because I stopped following them) helped them to fade away.

When it comes to Velvet Revolver, I can hear GNR songs and I can hear Stone Temple Pilots songs.

SET ME FREE is definitely a GNR song. I can picture Axl screaming during the buildup before the chorus

SLITHER is a STP song. I may be biased, but it is the best song on the CD. This song caused me to buy the CD because it reminded me of HEAVEN AND HOTRODS from NO.4.

There a few other songs I really like on this CD, but what kills me (and it's been my main beef with Scott Weiland) is there are 3 ballads on CONTRABAND.

WHERE IS IT WRITTEN THAT EVERY ROCK ALBUM MUST CONTAIN BALLADS?

But besides that, I give it a 7 out of 10.

I love the album and I have no problem with "Fall to Pieces" It's a nice little song.

This group is a good escape from all the nu-metal, heavy (boring) alternative, and whiny pop-punk nowdays.

Plus I saw a clip of their concert from that webcast someone posted and I liked what I saw.

'Loving The Alien' is where the *real* goodness is. That shit is awesome. 'Sucker Train Blues' has also got to be the coolest, catchiest rock tune I've heard this year.

VR's success and the surprising staying power of 'Greatest Hits' are such obvious signs that it is time for Axl to strike that it should be literally slapping him in the face. Logic has never been much of a factor with Master William, though.

Oh, and a year of touring? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH, right.
