Guest Choken One Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Wow. That's two straight low openings for Hanks now... I guess it's a slump. His next movie is "The Polar Express"...I don't know if that will end it...I know alot of people know the story and Hanks, Animation history is very strong so yeah... Dodgeball being #1 isn't a surprise as that Frat Pack Crew (Stiller, Owens, Vaugh, Black, Ferrel) has had great success lately. 80 days was a complete bomb and It proves people only care about Chan if he is with a Annoying Black Guy.

Thing with Hanks, though, is that the film will likely have legs. Unlike the films that tend to have huge openings, I don't see "The Terminal's" numbers plummeting. -=Mike
Vyce Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I'd disagree - I'm COMPLETELY surprised that Dodgeball was #1. I thought it looked funny, and it's something that I'd like to see eventually, but it didn't look like the kind of film that I thought would garner enough mainstream appeal to be the top movie. Riddick dropped by a lot. And I'm worried about Harry Potter - it's such a fantastic film, but I'm afraid that this may be the first of the Potter films that doesn't hit 300 million domestic.

Either it's a sign that People aren't interested as much in Hanks anymore or just that he choose two straight bad roles or that those two movies were just victims of bad timing.
2GOLD Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 "Riddick" is a bomb, "Garfield" looks to be headed towards a sequel although I don't know how and America seems to love Ben Stiller when he's acting like a completely insane evil moron.

Dodgeball will make around $90 million or so.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 It's gotten fairly good reviews. Damn... Around The World In 80 Days Domestic Total as of Jun. 20, 2004: $9,619,000 (Estimate) Production Budget: $110 million Est. Marketing Costs: $30 million By next week, it'll be gone from the top 10.
jesse_ewiak Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Well, with The LAdykillers, that wasn't supposed to be a hit. It was a "cred" movie for Hanks, like any Coen Brothers movie is. If you think bad reviews will hurt a movie like Dodgeball, it isn't likely. After all, bad reviews didn't exactly kill Old School, right? As far as HP, it was a mistake to go in the summer when there's a new 'blockbuster' every week it seems.

The second Harry Potter only had a domestic gross of 260 million.

Poor Jackie Chan. Finely he gets a movie with an actual plot and nobody wants to pay to see it. Why could'nt they wait until the end of summer to release the movie, I'm sure it would of made more money there then the present.

Well, they released it against a movie about dodgeball and a Tom Hanks hunt for Oscar film...I don't think they could have aimed lower even in the summer. It just looked like a really bad film.
razazteca Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Most Jackie Chan movies are bad films.....

As far as HP, it was a mistake to go in the summer when there's a new 'blockbuster' every week it seems. What's more, one of the best and most innovative marketing techniques was the marketing team behind Old School took all the NEGATIVE reviews and put that in the commercials, which was absolutely hilarious.

I expect a good movie out of those two, so when there isn't good reviews then I won't see it in the cinemas.

Karnage Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Most Jackie Chan movies are bad films..... Almost everything he did after Who Am I? is bad.
jesse_ewiak Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 Well, basically, as far as I can see, The Terminal will be the only non-family, non-explodey movie people will actually see, so it should have good legs. I mean, Road to Peridition only opened up with 22 million and still ended up over 100 in the summer.
Youth N Asia Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 The Terminal just hasn't gotten near as much advertising as his last bunch of movies. I've only seen a few ads for it. Around the World just doesn't look good...I am not suprised by those numbers

Guest Retro Rob Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 IMDB gave it a 7.3/10., which is very good. Only the first batch of votes have been counted. You need to give it a couple of weeks before an accurate rating comes up.
