Kurt Angle Mark Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 By Dave Meltzer Raw did a 4.2 rating last night, it's best number in a few months, for the Rock's return and the Eugene vs. HHH match.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Someone give Rock 10 million dollars to come back for good! 4.2?!!? And Smackdown last week did a 3.0 What a differential.
Art Sandusky Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 They didn't promote him appearing, but he was on there long enough for someone idly tuning in to stick around. I'd love to know what the quarter-by-quarter numbers were.
razazteca Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 The real reason for the high ratings was the constant updates about the Diva Search contest. Teen-tache boys just love that.
Guest JMA Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I wonder why they haven't had Rock appear on Smackdown. You know, to boost the rating. He CAN float between both brands.
Guest Choken One Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Yes he can AND it has the bonus of being taped...so the spoilers can "leak" and people find out... But it's just another way of keeping smackdown as the b show. Hell...It's HIS FUCKING SHOW!
Kizzo Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Exactly Choken...Smackdown is the Rock's show...I was wondering why he didn't appear on the show that was made after one of his catchphrases...and kinda in his image....
iliketurtles Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Rock/Cena still would do big money if they started a program for it next year at Mania. Oh, and I'd laugh so hard if they had ratings that could tell the last 3 minutes of Raw...because the HHH beatdown, I think the world collectively turned the channel or shut their TVs off.
iggymcfly Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Oh, and I'd laugh so hard if they had ratings that could tell the last 3 minutes of Raw...because the HHH beatdown, I think the world collectively turned the channel or shut their TVs off. Bullshit. That's when the ratings were the highest, because everyone was waiting for the Rock to come out and demolish HHH. However, the fans stayed tuned are gonna be pissed, and they're sure as hell not gonna make the same mistake to tune in next week. Of course, the Benoit/Kane match might offset the damage in next week's rating, but it was a terrible business move to make everyone think the Rock was coming out to make the save and have him not show. That's the kind of stupid shit the WWE used to never do that's killing all their business now. Well, that and crappy storylines, and bad acting, and giving their heels so little credibility that neither one of their two top heels can pin Eugene.
chaosrage Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Maybe Eugene = High ratings. No one knew Rock would be there. But everyone knew about the Eugene/HHH match.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Yes...high ratings are because of the Rock. It's because every week they've been setting up what was going to happen. They always have a planned Main Event and they hype it. They build from show to show. THAT'S why the ratings improved. They built up the Eugene/HHH match well last week so people tuned in to watch it. Add to that the fact that they've lately been featuring longer matches and it's a recipe for success
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I wonder why they haven't had Rock appear on Smackdown. You know, to boost the rating. He CAN float between both brands. I agree, but what is there for him on SmackDown! right now apart from maybe a few pay-outs on Bradshaw?
Jobber of the Week Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Maybe Eugene = High ratings. *puffs up* STOP THAT. NOW.
chaosrage Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Eugene = High ratings Eugene = High ratings Eugene = High ratings Eugene = High ratings
Guest Trivia247 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 And yet.... they decided it was a good Idea to kick him off the show in the first segment...... Perhaps there are people now in the back who see Rock so far in the movie star role that his appearance could be damaging to the other wrestlers. Since he isn't a wrestler not even in a part time basis anymore so taking time away from regular wrestlers... BUT geez they didn't have anything to worry about because the god damn Diva Search Took up 5 or 6 fucking segments that the majority of the Raw roster didn't have any matches anyway.
Youth N Asia Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I could care less about Rock's "here today, gone tomorrow" one nighters. All he does is comes in and burys people in promos...people who will still be there next week, and the next Although it would make more sense to put him on Smackdown. But it's clear they want that to be their midcard show anyway. And that diva trash has got to stop. I don't need that taking up 4 segments every single week. Bischoff and HHH take up enough as it is.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 And that diva trash has got to stop. I don't need that taking up 4 segments every single week. Yep. I agree with this 100%. Why are they so demanding on pushing the women's division that doesn't do anything positive for the company in a ratings or money making aspect. The women's division is given more airtime than most of the male performers on the show and it's not even half as equivalent as the regular division of wresters in terms of importance. This is the annoying dribble that makes RAW worse everyweek.......even if the rest of the show was great.
Beast Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Well, this can't be good. Out of all the Raw's lately, this one was so weak compared to the rest. I had a friend over and I decided to watch the beginning of Raw even though he isnt much more than a mark who doesnt really care for wrestling besides the great matches anymore. We both thought the Rock promo dragged on and on....and on and on. We were planning on watching it til at least 9 30 and we ended up watching about none, since there was a 20 minute BORING Rock promo, followed by a ladies match, that we didnt care about. My friend was sure the ratings were going to plummet. I guess the ship has passed by us and we dont understand what the people like anymore, because I thought that was the biggest waste of time and the worst way to open a Raw in a long time.
Shanghai Kid Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I could care less about Rock's "here today, gone tomorrow" one nighters. Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 A promoted ME with HHH + Special Guest The Rock = RATINGS~!
Guest Loss Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Rock wasn't advertised. HHH/Eugene pretty much gets the credit here, folks. Next week's rating will tell if Rock made a difference.
chaosrage Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Chaosrage = CRACKHEAD Yeah, not like Eugene is over as hell or anything.
Youth N Asia Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 well, when he showed up a while ago he beat down the French guys and left. Last night he took a verbal shot at Tomko and just walked on. And while I'm not a Tomko fan, the guy isn't over and this isn't helping.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 I was watching for Triple H and Eugene.
haVoc Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 The highest rated segment on RAW this Monday was a strong 5.1 for the overrun which featured the end of the Triple H vs. Eugene match. The show opened with a 3.5 and grew pretty much throughout the entire show. The overall rating was a 4.2. Shelton Benjamin is expected to be out until August due to his broken hand. PWTorch.com/411
Guest TheHulkster Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 It would be one thing if the Diva search contest was it's own show. That would be a good idea. Plastering it across Raw isn't going to win it many supporters.
Guest CronoT Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 It would be one thing if the Diva search contest was it's own show. That would be a good idea. Plastering it across Raw isn't going to win it many supporters. It will win the support of lesbians and sex-starved teenage boys with no social skills. The sad part is, that's probably a majority of the television audience.
TheBigSwigg Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 The highest rated segment on RAW this Monday was a strong 5.1 for the overrun which featured the end of the Triple H vs. Eugene match. Can't you see? TRIPLE H=RATINGS
