starvenger 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 Got this from TVShowsOnDVD.com Saturday Night Live - On DVD from New York, it's Saturday Night!: 4 new releases Posted by David Lambert 6/24/2004 The studio has confirmed with us that they are releasing four new "best-of" Saturday Night Live DVDs on September 7th (yes, that very crowded release date we've been talking about): Chris Kattan Will Ferrell, Volume 2 Tracy Morgan Christopher Walken That last one is interesting, no? Walken is now the second guest-host-only (albeit on multiple occassions) to be featured on an SNL "best of" DVD. The first, of course, was Steve Martin. Yep, he was never an official member of the cast, a fact which constantly surprises people. Each DVD list-prices separately for $19.98, plus Lions Gate wll also make available on the same day a Will Ferrell 2-Pack, containing both best-of volumes together for $29.98 SRP. Further details aren't available yet, nor is the cover art, but the releases are each available for pre-order at DVDEmpire (click on the titles above). We'll be back with you soon with the rest of the info, though. However, we WERE able to find out what's on the horizon for the next wave of SNL releases! They tell us that the next round will be "classic" stars from the earlier years of the show. Cool, eh? We can't wait!
Guest thebigjig Report post Posted June 25, 2004 Very cool... but I hate most of the SNL "best of" dvds because I can usually think of about 10 sketches that should be on there... I'm glad they're giving Will a volume 2... the first volume was really dissapointing (ONE brief CLIP from a Bush sketch?!) with the exception of the extras... "ahhhhh Pickleshoes!" Wasn't the "cowbell" sketch on the first one? Yeah but my favorite sketch is the dress rehearsal sketch that was cut from the final show... it featured Will as an old prospector named Gus Chiggins who is chosen to accompany a military platoon in Afghanistan... NO ONE keeps a straight face throughout, even Hammond who I rarely see crack up
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2004 I hated the Cowbell sketch. Maybe it was the dry "humor", or maybe it was Will Ferrell, but something went wrong.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Best of Will Ferrell Vol. 2 sucked too just like the first one. Best of Tracy was going okay until the end when it just snowballed. WTF was King Kong doing on there? Best of Walken is a must have. Pranksters and Census Taker in DVD quality? Joy

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Christ, is there anything that ISN'T coming out on September 7th? Ricky Martin. That's September 8th. He's been out, just no one has had the heart to break it to him. Also, this has been added to the "must buy" list of DVDs. Cowbell and Contiental are must own. Ted the Poster 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 What we need are SNL presidential DVDs. One for Carvey/Bush, Hammond/Clinton and Ferrell/Dubya. I'm not sure how good Hartman's Reagan was since I could never seem to to find any tapes of old episodes or ever catch them on TV much.

I'm not sure how good Hartman's Reagan was since I could never seem to to find any tapes of old episodes or ever catch them on TV much. need two for Clinton, Hartman's younger Clinton and Hammond's older Clinton Hartman's Clinton owns Hammond's Clinton. The Clinton At McDonalds sketch alone puts Hartman over the top. ("This Filet-O-Fish and this McChicken? Aid from Italy and France. They send it to Somalia (takes food off of trays and shoves in his mouth) and it's intercepted by warlords!") As for Hartman's Reagan, the defining sketch has to be the "Mastermind Reagan" one which has him as the brains behind every plan done in the White House such as illegal arms deals even though he plays the befuddled grandfather when the public sees him. (He even recalls his old "Cap'n Carl" days on Pee Wee Herman's show when he speaks "Arabic" on the phone, saying "Meccaaleccaahi mecca charlie ho" .)
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Best of Will Farrell Vol. 2? Best Of Christopher Walken? So it seems as if Christmas will come early this year.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2004 Big complaint though that I have towards these types of compilations: Instead of doing "The Best Of" why the fuck not go balls out and do a DEFINATE collection of ALL of "insert cast member's name here"'s sketches? Especially given how season box sets are never going to happen.....
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I dont know that itseld its asking a awful lot as well, despite how much ass it would kick. Heres a question, who has hosted SNL more then anyone else? Its not Christopher Walken is it?
Guest Jimbo Report post Posted June 27, 2004 I'm not a hardcore SNL fan, but I heard John Goodman's up there at the top of the most shows hosted pack, I think?

Its not Christopher Walken is it? The most hosting appearances is Steve Martin with about 15. Others with five or more host appearances include: Candice Bergin Tom Hanks John Goodman Alec Baldwin Buck Henry Chevy Chase Elliot Gould Paul Simon There's a SNL FAQ somewhere that has a list of all members of the "Five-Timers Club". Especially given how season box sets are never going to happen..... Good thought but not feasable in some cases. Definitive Eddie Murphy may work because he was there for about three seasons and one of those was as a supporting player when he didn't appear often. After that, I think he only hosted once and he won't be hosting anytime soon. Background- He hosted once while he was in the cast because 48 Hrs. co-star Nick Nolte ended up in rehab, he hosted the season after he left the show when Beverly Hills Cop came out, and he's been VERY anti-SNL for the past ten years or so. The reason for the anti-SNL stance is for two reasons. 1. David Spade kicked him while he was down circa 1991 by doing a Hollywood Minute sketch where he showed a picture of Murphy and said "Look, kids, a falling star!" 2. After the incident where he was pulled over with a trannie hooker in his car (circa 1996), SNL did a skit called "Eddie Murphy: Good Samaritan" in which he was doing favors for all kinds of people who happened to be transsexuals. Murphy was PISSED over that because he was widely acknowledged to be the reason that SNL didn't get cancelled after the original cast left in 1980. Definitive Phil Hartman would be impossible because he was there for almost 8 years and was in a LOT of sketches because he was known as "The Glue", as he was capable of holding bad sketches together. Im sure Christopher Walken is part of that club... He wasn't while I was still watching the show. (I only remember Walken hosting around 1992 and I know he hosted again circa 2002 when they did Cowbell.) HOWEVER, he is one of the people given a standing offer to host each year along with Tom Hanks, John Goodman, and Alec Baldwin. Because of that, he could have racked up another 3-4 appearances since I quit watching and, therefore, joined the Five Timers club.
DerangedHermit 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2004 Walken has hosted in '89-90, '92-93, '95-96, '99-00, '00-01, and '02-03.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 The Best of Phil Hartman that they did put together was pretty dissapointing. It was good- just not what I wanted it to be. Danny DeVito is also a 5-timer. And a collection of every skit someone did would be pretty impossible and way too big. Would you really want to see a skit where Phil Hartman had one line and the skit was built around Ellen Cleighorne?

Im pretty sure he just meant the skits where that person was the focal point, and not every single skit they ever appeared in, still its quite impossible to do all the same
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2004 They better put "Ed Glosser: Trivial Psychic" on there lmao Hartman was a fav of mine, I loved his clinton (especially that mcdonalds sketch mentioned earlier) and unfrozen caveman lawer and Frankenstein
Scroby 0 Report post Posted June 30, 2004 1. David Spade kicked him while he was down circa 1991 by doing a Hollywood Minute sketch where he showed a picture of Murphy and said "Look, kids, a falling star!" You forgot to add how after that aired Murphy saw Spade somewhere and threw him against a wall and almost beat the shit outta Spade. Thats why Spade said "were cool now" when the handpuppet Spade was using in one of the last "Hollywood Minute" sketches cracked a joke off on Murphy.
