The OAO Nightmare on Elm Street thread

Recommended Posts

Now, I've never been brave enough to even bring myself to watch those Freddy Krueger movies. But, to those here who have seen them, I say, share them here. I have watched one brief scene from one of those Nightmare movies. The scene where this teenage guy was falling with a parachute until Freddy cut him off, and he fell onto a bed of spikes, and then Freddy devoured his soul.

What are your favorite NOES moments?

The First NOEM movie is still high on my list of greatest movies of all time. 2 and 6 are also high, but they're on the list of WORST movies I've ever seen.

I always hated part 5 because that was the EPITOME of "funny freddy" I do own the box set though which is totally worth the money. Part 1 is scary.

I must second the hilariousness of the geeky kid dancing around his room in Part 2, or the fact that his Gym teacher was some S&M freakoid, hahahaha.

Part 3 was pretty damn good, and I thought Part 4 was decent.

Freddy's Dead(6) was a decent way to "end" the series, and New Nightmare was a good concept.

I liked when the Dungeons and Dragons kid "zapped" Freddy with the "magical" wizard powers...

Freddy no-sells it, bashes "wizards" and then kills the kid in a second.

Honestly, after part 3, the series as "horror" is completely downhill. It just turns into Freddy being a comical idiot.

I actually just bought the boxset and watched them all this weekend.

The 1rst one is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Freddy is legitly scary in this movie, and the teenagers are the central part of the story. The best scene is Johnny Depp getting sucked into his bed and blood flying everywhere. His character got the most brutal death of the movie, you can only imagine what his mother was feeling like when she opened the door and saw her son like that. Hell the Coroner threw up on sight, saying he never saw anything like that.

The 2nd movie is the worst of the franchise IMO. Main character is gay, played by a real life homosexual. This is the one to skip.

3rd one is great, Freddy starts slipping in one liners, the best of the series is here as Freddy says "Welcome to Primetime Bitch".

4th isn't great, but it has decent dream sequences.

5th is horrible, has a gothic feel and Freddy is overexposed. Another great Freddy one liner- "Bon Appatite Bitch".

Freddys Dead is more of a comedy than Horror, Freddy is over the top hilarious in this movie.

New Nightmare is totally different.

Overall a great series, 4 out of the 7 are better movies than Freddy vs Jason.

What was the whole backstory on Freddy Kruger? Who was he, and how did he become what he became?

EDIT:Nevermind, Freddy was a serial child killer that terrorised Elm Street by killing children. But, one day, a group of vigilente parents burned him to death in his hideout. Freddy swore that he would get revenge on them by killing their children where they can't protect them, in their dreams.

he was a known child murderer when he was alive, and was actually caught by the police and judged, but because of a technicality he was free.

So the pissed-off parents of Springwood took justice into their own hands and burned his house killing him. Now he is getting back by killing the children of those who killed him, in their dreams. He's basically a ghost who kills in dreams.

i'm a big big fan of the movies, i remember when i was younger i was so scared of Freddy, even seeing the video boxes at BlockBuster scared me, he's pretty damn ugly.

I have the box-set and recommend it to anyone, best way to see the movies, here's my little reviews of each one:

- ANOES: scariest one, up there as one of the best horror movies ever made. Bloddy, dark, scary Freddy, awesome.

- ANOES 2: i don't know why everyone hates this one, some say because Jesse was kinda gay or because it changed the rules of Freddy, etc. I quite like it, and has sentimental value cause it was the first Freddy movie i saw when i was like 6. It's the darkest of all the movies along with part one. Has a cool opening scene, and i love the part where Freddy comes out of Jesse's body, great SFX.

- ANOES 3: the best of the sequels, Freddy was more prominent here, and this is where the dream sequences started to get all trippy and cool. It has more action, great SFX and it's palin fun.

- ANOES 4: not scary at all, and Freddy is the lead man here, i quite like it for that 80's feel and music. Fun movie.

- ANOES 5: sucks sucks sucks sucks, now thiiiiis one is the crappiest of them all. It's the only one of the movies that i just hate, Freddy sucks here, and the feel of the movie is unlikable. SKIP IT

- ANOES 6: a comedy, no horror at all, as a movie it totally sucks, but Freddy is pretty funny here(Carlos' death, "Great Graphics", etc) and i like to watch in once in a while to kill time.

- New Nightmare: feels completely different than all the others, Freddy is different too, he's more like a Demon and seems more like the Freddy in part 1. A bit slow at times but pretty good, it's the second scariest behind part 1.

So basically, watch them all except 5, five suuuuuuuuuuuucks

Lori: Aren't you going to help the kid?

(having sex with a female counselor)

Lori: You mean you're not coming?

(The Counselor turns into Freddy Krueger and it is revealed that he is having sex with a dead girl's body)

Freddy Krueger: It's not my fault this bitch is dead on her feet.

Speaking of NOES. Does anybody remember the show Just The Ten Of Us about the fat coach and his teen daughters? It was a spin off a Growing Pains and it last 2 seasons I think. Anyways, out of his 4 teen girls 3 of them were in Elm Street movies. One of them was Heather Langenkamp.

Freddy Krueger must've liked Rick James. "Welcome to Primetime, Bitch!"

My Favorite Kills...

#5....

The Cripple from Part III. Freddy no sells his wizard shit and stabs him in the heart.

#4....

Part 2 when Freddy comes from out of the dudes body and kills the other dude. Nice description huh?

#3....

Freddies Dead. Freddy kills the kid with the rich father by using the NINTENDO POWER GLOVE, and finishes off with "Now thats playing with power" one liner.

#2....

The original, as he sucks the guy into his bed and it just gushes a waterfall of blood onto the roof.

and the WINNER, and STILL Champion....

From Part III again, the chick who wants to be a T.V. star. Goes up to the T.V., and Freddy grabs her and smashes her face into the T.V. Not the best death, but the line "Welcome to Primetime Bitch" makes it THAT DAMN GOOD.

A Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite horror movie. The First of the series is great and brings a fresh idea to the Slasher genre. The 2nd while keeping Freddy scary, it has noticable homosexual undertones, ehich really take alot away from the movie. It isn't really a true sequel as it mostly takes Freddy out of his element.Part III is the 2nd best of the series behind the 3rd. It goes back to it's roots and brings Nancy Thompson and her father back into the story. It is scary with a great mix of one liners from Freddy. It wasn't over the top. Part IV is where the series goes a little more comedic. While not too bad, it did use a little too much. I twas a good addition to the series and handed over the lead to another actress in a good way. Part V tries to take Freddy back to his roots. With the same lead actress as part IV it is decent but not really one of the better movies. It has a gothic feel and not the greatest story line. This is also the worst makeup in the series. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare is way too comedic, but is better if you just keep in mind Freddy is so confident he toys with his victims more in a comedic way and enjoys his job. It gives a brief description of Freddy growing up and his past. But with too much comedy and a weak 3-D ending this is probably ranked with part 2 as one of the worst of the series. New NIghtmare while not actually part of the series was a great concept, made Freddy evil, although it was a demon in Freddy form. it was scary and starred the original cast sans Ronee Blakely, Johnny Deep,Nick Corri, and Amanda Wyss. Freddy's costume wasn't too great though. Freddy vs Jason is good not only because it brings together the 2 series, but it also b rings some evil back to Freddy. While not the same as part 1 or 2 he is very evil. He is like he was in part III.

My Ranking:

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors

3. Freddy vs Jason

4. Wes Cravens' New Nightmare

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

6. A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

7. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

8. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

After seeing Part 1 again recently, I gotta say it doesn't hold up to the test of time at all. It really loses the horror effect and becomes a very dull and boring movie. I still feel like they are missing a HUGE chance to turn Freddy back into the horror monster he was.

How? Prequel him.

Do the child murderer story and take it all the way up to his death. Cause that scene in the basement with the kid and him licking the back of the picture was easily the "oh that's not right" and most uncomfortable moments of FvJ or any of the NOES series. Probably would be a dark film but it would easily pull him back into "ok, this was a sick and very unfunny man".

As for this series, I go with Dream Warriors as #1, the original although it's hurt by time is still number 2 on my list followed by part 4. All the ones after four and part two are just wastes of energy to me. Freddy vs Jason I just don't feel like is part of either series. It's a stand alone but if I did place it into this group, I'd put it before part 1 just for the scene with the kid alone.

So

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors

2. Freddy vs Jason

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

5. Wes Cravens' New Nightmare

6. A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

7. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

8. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

I'd say 2 is the scariest, just because of the idea of Freddy taking over someone's body in their dreams and making them kill people in real life. Now that's fucked up. At least in the first one, Nancy had her friends going through the same things. Jesse was all alone. Although so was Nancy at the end of part 1, and 1 had a better ending. The lead up was great though with Jesse finding the glove and Freddy and telling him to try it on, finding Nancy's diary and slowly learning what happened, and things like seeing Freddy's reflection in the mirror.

It also had this exchange.

Stupid kid: Calm down man, we want to help you

Freddy: Help yourself, fucker!

(stabs him)

With scenes like that, how could it be a bad movie?

1. A Nightmare on Elm Street

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors

4. Freddy vs Jason

5. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

5. Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare

6. Wes Cravens' New Nightmare

7. A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child

Part 6 was badass simply because of Breckin Meyers' death scene.

Part 2, I don't know, I've just never felt it. The opening sequence is cool, but it gets to the point where it's so drastically different from the other Freddy movies that you start scratching your head.

Part 2 had some classic moments. I mean the Pool scene rocked, and the into with the Bus going off into the desert which turns into the pits of hell was a killer sequence.

That's because nobody likes the main good guy, and Freddy wasn't "likable" yet either. It was just a huge clusterfuck of a movie, but to me probably still the scariest of the series.

The main thing about Freddy Kueger was that he was so fucking unpredictable. You always knew that he would kill someone when they fall asleep. But, you would never know how he would do it. I mean, Krueger could always think of a million ways to kill someone. He was very innovative as far as his murders were concerned. He could kill you in a million different ways in so many dream sequences & locations, and all he has to do is use his sick, twisted, maniacal, evil, demonic, & demented mind. I think that is truely what made Freddy Krueger frightening, dangerous, & deadly. He could find more and more ways to kill you that it would actually keep him busy for hours long enough for you to finally wake up.

the best death scene was in part 3: the kid that played with the puppets, Freddy pulls veins out of arms and legs and uses them like puppet strings and throws him off the building. when i was a kid that scene made me cringe everytime...

goofiest death scene was in part 4: breaks the benchpressing chicks' arms off and then turns her into a giant roach, then crushes her in that roach motel..."you can check in, but you can't check out!" SQUISH!

the puppeteer death was one of the most classic ever, but the effect is totally lost if you see the edited version, so everyone who hasn't seen it yet, make sure to see the movie on dvd/vhs and not on regular cable channels.

I'm bumping this thread, because I saw NOES 1, twice and it had me having trouble getting to sleep at night. Plus, I also just got done seeing Freddy's Dead, and it was pretty funny. I liked when they rolled the credits at the end, they showed Freddy's "Greatest Hits", if you will. I think it was a great retrospective of Freddy Krueger's evil legacy that he left behind.

All in all, it was pretty cool. Now, I have to see if I can bring myself to watch parts 2-5.

Anyway, my favorite NOES movies would have to be the original and part three. I also didn't like it when Freddy became "funny', you're not supposed to laugh WITH him.

My favorite NOES deaths:

-Tina being dragged across the ceiling while being sliced open by Freddy.

-Glen being dragged into his bed and his blood shooting out of it.

-The D&D kid having his magic "no-sold" by Freddy and then crushed by the wheel.

-Freddy turning the kid into a human puppet, then cutting the strings and watching him fall to his death.

To the person that wanted to know the prequel story for Freddy in a movie form...

...I think they sorta did that on Freddy's short lived TV Show, IIRC.

Someone here could probably give more info.

Yeah, they covered it on the first episode of Freddy's Nightmares.

One of the movies (I think it was Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare) also covered Freddy's origin, which involved Freddy making a deal with "dream demons."

After rewatching the series I rank them

Nightmare 1

Nightmare 4

Nightmare 5

New Nightmare

Nightmare 3

Freddy's Dead

Nightmare 2

Freddy's Dead is total crap. Way too many tries at humor and zero scares. I had forgotten how bad part 2 was till I watched it again...very very awful. 3 was a letdown too...although I liked 5 better than I used to.
