Australian Pride Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 There have been some weird things happen in pro wrestling, so what has made you do the most head scratching? For me, I've always been curious why: When a wrestler goes for a legdrop, and the opponent moves, why do they sell it like it hurts like hell? Aren't they landing in the exact same position as if they had hit the move??? When Shawn Michaels went for the title at WM12 it was because he had a 'boyhood dream'. So where was that dream one year earlier?
Steviekick Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 As for the leg drop, the victim is supposed to sell it like the aggressor dropped their upper leg/thigh right on their neck/chest. By moving out of the way, the falling wrestler lands on their tailbone unprotected.
Australian Pride Posted July 13, 2004 Author Report Posted July 13, 2004 But the tailbone still hits the canvas in the exact same spot regardless of whether the opponent moves or not. It's the same as if you go for a dropkick and the opponent holds the ropes and you dont make contact - your still hitting the ground in the exact same spot as if you had made contact.
Papacita Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 When Shawn Michaels went for the title at WM12 it was because he had a 'boyhood dream'. So where was that dream one year earlier? Yeah, but he was bad, so it didn't matter. You could say that his near-career-ending concussion he suffered a few months prior brought his dream back into focus.
eiker_ir Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 you know when womeone is laying on the mat and the other guy jumps off the top turnbuckle into him but in a straight position(he would have landed on his feet) and they get a boot to the face. I mean what the hell were they going for??? Referees get knocked down/out, but miracously they get up at the right time just for the 3 count.
Corey_Lazarus Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 When two wrestlers are booked so that the storyline calls for them HATING each other...why do they start off with standard mat-wrestling? Wouldn't they break down into a pure fight?
MillenniumMan831 Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 During the 24/7 Era of the Hardcore Title, why did they even bother booking Hardcore Title Matches?
Guest Real F'n Show Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Why does Ric Flair take so many back body drops?
Australian Pride Posted July 13, 2004 Author Report Posted July 13, 2004 Why does Ric Flair take so many back body drops? Why does Ric Flair climb to the top rope?
Guest Real F'n Show Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Why does Ric Flair take so many back body drops? Why does Ric Flair climb to the top rope? Because it's classic Flair. A couple of weeks ago he took like 8 back body drops in one match. I know he was in a plane crash and everything, but there's gotta be more moves to take than the back body drop. How about a suplex or bodyslam?
deancoles Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Trying to figure out the Samoan family tree.
Guest MikeSC Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Why doesn't a title holder immediately walk out of the ring and get counted out inside of 10 seconds of the match starting? -=Mike
Der Kommissar Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I never get why, when a wrestler changes their finisher, suddenly their old finisher becomes totally ineffective. The worst example of this was Billy Gunn. When he switched finishers from the Famouser to the One & Only, the Famouser became so ineffective that it couldn't even put away jobbers on Jakked. Of course, when his "The One" gimmick failed, he went back to the Famouser again. Plus, he was getting a pretty good push(I believe this was when he was teaming Chuck), so the Famouser was putting away some pretty notable guys. In fact, I believe it was treated as a pretty much "lights out" move for a short time there. Pretty funny since it couldn't even beat a jobber a few months prior. What happened? Did Billy Gunn travel to a Buddhist monastery and suddenly discover how to do the "perfect" Famouser or something? I never quite understood how a move could go from finisher to a near fall move to a lethal finisher again.
Australian Pride Posted July 13, 2004 Author Report Posted July 13, 2004 It's sorta like the way the DDT was a killer move for Jake Roberts but is now just used as a set up or counter attack move. The last time i saw it get a pinfall was in the HHH/Rock ironman match, and that was more because of fatigue than it being a killer blow. Same thing goes with the Randy Savage Big Elbow, it never gets the pin for Shawn Michaels (or Garrison Cade!).

What I don't understand is when someone hits someone accidentally, but gets beat up for it, why not SHOW THEM THE VIDEO OF IT!!!
CanadianChick Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 This is a obvious one, but why do people tell secrets in front on the camera?
Guest Staravenger Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 This is a obvious one, but why do people tell secrets in front on the camera? You're on candid camera? OK, I've got nothing.
deancoles Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 When he was in the Royal Rumble why didn't Hacksaw Jim Duggan bring the 2x4 in with him? same with Bossman and the nightstick.
BHK Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 When two wrestlers are booked so that the storyline calls for them HATING each other...why do they start off with standard mat-wrestling? Wouldn't they break down into a pure fight? Yet another reason why the Hart/Austin match at WM13 is amazing. Austin absolutely tries to KILL Bret at the beginning.
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 But the tailbone still hits the canvas in the exact same spot regardless of whether the opponent moves or not. It's the same as if you go for a dropkick and the opponent holds the ropes and you dont make contact - your still hitting the ground in the exact same spot as if you had made contact. I had always assumed with the legdrop that the guy laying on the mat broke your fall to a degree. You hit him before hitting the mat so therefore the impact to your tailbone would be considerably less.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 How come in tags(southern style specifically) the ref believes the heel when they say a tag was made and don't believe the faces? Why is Billy Gunn still employed?
Papacita Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 How come in tags(southern style specifically) the ref believes the heel when they say a tag was made and don't believe the faces? Usually, after the tag is made, the face is still being controlled in the ring when the partner runs in. When heels tag out behind the ref's back, usually, the switch is already made when the ref turns around, so there's not much the ref can do in that situation. At least that's how I see it. One thing I've never really understood, though, is why heels fake tags behind the ref's back, despite the fact that his partner is standing RIGHT NEXT TO HIM and can be easily tagged at any time. And it's not like it gives them an unfair advantage or anything--they just do it for the hell of it.
DangerousDamon Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 Why do wrestlers wear wrist tape? Does it protect their hand when they punch or something?
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 The wrist tape is just to hold everything in place.
Papacita Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 I remember HBK saying a while back that it prevents you from twisting your wrist when you punch/chop/whatever.
Guest Staravenger Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 And it's easy access for cheating when the referee isn't looking. Here's one question that's always bugged me: Why does the Rock fucking pinball around the ring when he takes a Stunner? for gods sake, it's suppose to incapacitate you, not throw you around the ring like a rubber ball. Just look at everyone else taking it: Take it and clump over in a heap.
Slayer Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 This is a obvious one, but why do people tell secrets in front on the camera? What camera?
Australian Pride Posted July 13, 2004 Author Report Posted July 13, 2004 How does stuff like 'bags of thumbtacks' and '2x4's wrapped in barbed wire' get under the ring? Do the wrestlers sneak out before the crowd arrives and hide them there? I can sort of understand HHH's sledgehammer because there is a possibility of it being used by the ring crew, but half the other stuff they pull from under the ring is just stupid. I was watching WM15 the other day and Al snow pulled a damn hockey stick out from under there!
Guest MikeSC Posted July 13, 2004 Report Posted July 13, 2004 This is a obvious one, but why do people tell secrets in front on the camera? They don't see the camera. Or the lights. Or the boom guy. Hey, they're busy EMOTING! Also, in cage matches/no-DQ matches --- why would anybody break a hold when their opponent gets to the ropes? What's the ref going to do --- change the stips and then DQ them? -=Mike
