Warners finally gets it right! SUPERMAN RETURNS! The Confirmed Details Spill To Earth!

Hey folks, Harry here... it is with a great deal of relief, joy and happiness that I can lay out what is happening with the Man of Steel.

As of Today, the deals for Bryan Singer, Michael Dougherty & Dan Harris have been closed to helm & write from scratch the new SUPERMAN film. This is the X2 team. The team that made, arguably the best of the Marvel Films (arguable only because Raimi nailed the hell out of SPIDER-MAN 2).

The J.J. Abrams script has been completely tossed out. Not of shred of it will remain. That McG ordered SUPERMAN cybersuit (Brilliant Ideas From Mr Hot Wheels, eh?) that Stan Winston's brilliant craftsmen were paid zillions to create is GONE! Today, long time sources like Frosty Skywalker, Sir Etch-A-Sketch and Sir Magnadoodle... those last two have been in the hallways of Warners for the better part of the past decade... and have access to every room. Frosty wrote to tell me that Bryan was signed, and that LOGAN'S RUN and X3 were now dead. While the first part of that is true... LOGAN'S RUN and X3 are not dead. The word from the halls of Warner Bros is that LOGAN'S RUN will be the film that Bryan Singer will make immediately after the Man Of Steel lands in theaters near us all. HOWEVER - if you begin talking to spies at Fox in Tom Rothman's offices and adjoining offices... X3 will be made after SUPERMAN by Singer, or Fox will leave him behind and continue forward with a new director. It'll be interesting to see how the cast will take to that... I know they all love Rothman so. He's a really cute dude, very lovable snugglebunny and obviously the reason that series has been the success that it has been. No, no, really. Ok, maybe that's a fib.

Details on SUPERMAN RETURNS, which is what Team Singer and WB seem to be calling it, are few and far between. But one source, that proved to me today to be quite close to some Warner exec that strikes an amazing resemblence to Lex Luthor himself, hinted to me that this film does not throw the Donner films away and allegedly somehow has something to do with their timeline and history!!! So... from the title, all we're left with is... he must have left, and now he's back. Does that refer to the child of Krypton's absence from theaters, Metropolis, our Planet or what? Will 3 & 4 be canon or merely tragedies? If he's returning, one can assume that he went somewhere, and now feels the need to be back... but why? Where'd he go? Why's he back? I can say though... SUPERMAN RETURNS will not be an Origin Story. We're not going to walk through all that molasses for the umpteenth time, waiting for Kal-El to do something or become Superman again!

The confirmed details are: Bryan Singer, Michael Dougherty & Dan Harris are on board. It will not be an origin story. And something regarding the Christopher Reeve films and that universe has something to do with this. (though that last one is a shady detail... My source heard that, but when they did... there was no elaboration for the how, what, when, where or why of it.)

I assure you... I'm on this case like Comet, the super-horse! That's right, I'm your super-stud!

While Warners continues to be the craziest most bi-polar studio on planet Earth... It seems they're nailing BATMAN BEGINS... and they finally have a team that I can get enthusiastically pumped up about. Now if only GREEN LANTERN was being done justice the way New Line proposed to Warners in a faithful 3 film Green Lantern Corps super epic. But, a comedic riff by Jack Black... that's just as good right? Sigh. No matter, the team behind X2 will once again have all of us believing that a man can fly!

All I can say is...F*CK YEAH!

This sounds like a GREAT idea. If this IS a sequel to the Reeve films, then I hope 3 and 4 are not considered canon.

If Superman returns does that mean that this will be the storyline of the Death of Superman and that Shaq as STEEL will be back?

I don't think so. It's RUMORED to involve the Chris Reeve movies.

Ok, my mind is a bit fuzzy...

What happened in 3 and 4 that should be forgotten? Was that the one with the sun guy?

Nuclear Man (ugh) was in 4. Richard Pryor was in 3.

I can't stand the way Ain't It Cool News writes their articles, it seems so ameuter.

But delaying X-3 for Superman? Errr, I am not to happy about this.

Superman is cool and all but delaying X3 to film it? Boo-erns.

HUSH! There is no negativity allowed here!

We're getting a good SUPERMAN MOVIE!

Would it be impossible to do the Death of Superman if they followed the canon of the first movies or something?

It's been a while since I saw any of them.

It wouldn't be impossible. But the feeling I get is that they're having Superman "return" from space or somewhere.

If Doomsday is not the villian in this movie, I will be disappointed.

It should really be Darkseid.

I've never really been a Doomsday fan (except when I was younger). His character really went downhill after his first battle with Superman.

I'd also like to see Darkseid as the main villain. He can physically fight Superman AND he's intelligent. Of course, Lex Luthor should still be in the movie.

I hate WB. Just when they give me a good reason to truly hate them, they give me a reason to love them.

I'm convinced that both this move, and the move to get Nolan to do BATMAN BEGINS happened while WB's President took a bathroom break.

I am really happy they got rid of McG too. First off, he is a horrible director and I have no idea how he got "big" or whatever. He has only done two movies, "Charlie's Angels" and they both sucked. But he had that great show "Fastline," which did so well. Oh wait, it sucked and got cancelled.

Plus, that is probably the worst name ever. McG? Why not use your real name, Joe.

Who is Doomsday? Or Darkseid?

Doomsday is the thing that killed Superman back in 1992. Supposedly his mission is to kill all Kryptonians, and when he dies he comes back stronger then he was before. Here's a picture of him:doomsday.gif

Darkseid is the Overlord of the planet Apokolips.darkseid1b.jpg

I don't really think these guys would make good Superman Villians right off the bat. What about somebody like Brainiac? Could be interesting if they did that

Brainiac would be good, too. But they should definetly use the metal-organic version.

BTW, your Doomsday image isn't showing up.

Boring captain spandex over X3?

Great, wonderful. I still don't believe one ounce of this. Not to mention SONY may step up and inform Singer if he does this project that he will lose X-MEN franchise.

Singer seems already in love with the X-MEN franchise and if FOX/SONY wants they can easily play hard ball. Frankly I'd rather see the SUPERMAN franchise stay dead with Reeves as Superman than X-3 and the Dark Phoenix storyline get killed.

I would be beyond shocked if FOX/SONY just allows Singer to go ahead and delay their franchise for the benefit of not only a rival company but a rival comic book property they don't own.

I'm surprised that nobody remembers 1992 the year where DC went on to kill off all of the franchise characters and reinvented them.

To be honest I could careless if the Superman Returns movie is canon or not..........hell Star Wars prequels was crap but it made millions. I still would like to see the Death of Superman as a trilogy of films. Movie #1 Doomsday "kills" Superman, Movie #2 the return of Superman with the introduction of the new costume and JLA subplot, Movie #3 the rematch with Doomsday and the Hal Jordan heel turn into Phallax subplot.

Movie #3 would have to be VERY long to include both the Superman/Doomsday rematch AND Hal turning into Parallax. Not to mention you'll have to introduce characters like the Cyborg in movie #2. His origin alone might cause trouble with Marvel; Hank Henshaw basically started off as a Reed Richards rip-off before he turned into his current form. They would need to tweak his origin a bit for the big screen.

I'm not really that big a fan of the whole Death/Return story, so it doesn't really matter much to me. It might be better to just adapt Roger Stern's The Death and Life of Superman to the big screen (if you're a fan of the concept).

WB can exploit the Lord of the Ring style of making movies. Make it 3 hours long each then add alot of "extended" footage on the dvds. Besides isnt it now cliche to make comicbook movies with several subplots for the sole purpose of making spinoffs or sequels.

I'm with you.

I'm ambivalent towards a new Superman film.

But I'll be extremely pissed off if they postpone X3 - provided, of course, that this news is true.

BTW, was the Abrams script the one that had "And then Luthor flies!"??
