Guest Coffey Report post Posted April 11, 2006 Mine keeps changing. I can't settle on a definitive list that I'm happy with. For example, I love movies like "Rudy" & "First Blood" but even with sentimental value, I can't put them above stuff like "The Godfather." When I was growing up, I was a sucker for cheesy action movies like "Robocop," "Predator," "Commando," & "Bloodsport." I can't put them on a "best" list. Stuff like "Die Hard" might come close but then I'll look at the list a couple of days later and think "there's no way." I like "Scarface" a lot. For a long time, I thought it was my favorite movie. I've watched it many, many times. The problem is, I've seen is so many times that I don't want to watch it anymore. Not to mention is so long, you have to devote a good portion of your day to actually sit down and watch it. I'm a big fan of horror movies. It's certainly my favorite genre, however I feel awkward having them on a greatest of all-time list, even if it is supposed to be a personal list. Movies like "The Thing" & "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" are classics but how do they compare to the greatest movies? I don't even want to think of how hard this list would be if I actually sat down and took my time with it. The "Rocky" movies, the "Indiana Jones" movies, the "Aliens" movies, the "Godfather" movies. Then throw in my favorite comedies, sports movies, horror movies and gangter movies. It's not going to be possible. I do know that my earlier list is nowhere near what I'd answer now. Recently, I've been enjoying "The Way of the Gun" & "The Boondock Saints." I really like "The Rookie" & "The Hunted" as well. That's four of my current favorites, but certainly not my all-time favorites. It's a good thing the thread title said "Of all-time, at the moment." I've been told before that I have a "common" list of favorite movies. Which is odd because a lot of movies that people love, like the newest "King Kong," "Fight Club" or "Batman Begins" I loathe. Yet, if I throw "Scarface," "The Godfather," & "Goodfellas" and/or "Pulp Fiction" & "Reservoir Dogs" on a list, suddenly I can't form my own opinions or I have generic tastes. Whatever. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2006 Hmm....in no order: 1. Kiki's Delivery Service(my favorite Miyzaki movie) 2. Enter the Dragon(Return may have a more realistic end fight, but Enter is just such a classic and the first real kung fu movie I ever saw) 3. Citizen Kane(not sure it's the best movie of all time, but it's very, very good) 4. Dracula(Bela's best movie, of course, and it avoids some of the weird issues White Zombie has that drags that down) 5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home honorable mentions: Kill Bill Volume 1(yes, I like spotfets) City Hunter(Jackie at his slapstick best) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind(I've begun to like this better than Princess Mononoke) Return of the Dragon(Bruce Lee's best end fight, it showed such promise had he not died) Original Star Wars Trilogy(first live action movies I liked) Robin Hood(my favorite Disney movie) I watch mostly wrestling and anime TV shows, though, so there's a lot of mainstream stuff I've missed
