godthedog 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I think HBK/Bret is infinitely better than HHH/Rock, so I hope they go down that road. they couldn't pull that off, trips can't chain wrestle worth a shit.
BHK 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 The only problem I can see with tihs is, how is it going to end? They've done the tie, the screwjob last second fall, and the clean last second fall attempt. So what does that leave for this one? Triple H taps at the last second? Eugene interferes and pulls the SWERVE~! turns heel, and costs Benoit the title? I mean, considering the 3 endings they've used already, I'm out of ideas. Fresh ones, anyway.
Guest Loss Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I'm expecting an HHH win here, so he can defend against Edge at Summerslam. Perhaps Benoit and Jericho will team up against Flair and Batista as well, based on what happened last night. It's hard to say. I don't expect the match to be great, but I do think it will have really good moments. Commercial breaks and commentary are key here to making this work, and WWE flubs in both areas all the time. Expect the second hour to start with a long promo to give the crowd a break. I think they're doing it in the first hour so they can do an overrun in the second hour, and they probably don't want to do something stupid like start the match at 9:15. Promoter 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I suppose Trips could win and they go with Trips/Edge champ vs. champ. Edge's storyline is to take down Evolution. He already beat Flair and Batista for the tag titles and defeated Orton soundly. Would Edge win the title in Toronto? I could also see Benoit winning and also defending against Edge. I don't think Trips/Benoit would happen at SummerSlam with this being given away, but then again they could have HHH go over monday and then have Benoit regain the belt in Toronto. It seems like a blow-off match. Remember, Angle/Brock? It went Angle defeating Brock on tv, then Brock going over Angle, Angle over Brock at Slam, and then the blow-off with the ironman. This one is going Benoit over Trips at Mania, getting over on him again at Backlash, again at Vengence. Trips goes over here maybe. I could see Benoit winning again though. Guest Loss Report post Posted July 20, 2004 It would be interesting to see if the audience would actually buy HHH putting his career on the line at Summerslam if he can't beat Benoit and regain the title.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 If they really wanted ratings points and wanted to milk the iron man cow, they'd have it from 9PM to 10PM as the normal 1 hour Iron Man, and then have it go into overtime for the overflow, a good 10-15 minute over-flow with the ending involving run-ins with Eugene, Evolution, Bischoff, and Regal. Not saying that SHOULD happen. But if they wanted ratings, compared to a good match, thats what they SHOULD do.

If they're going to do this properly, I tihnk it should be done clean. Also, if I decide to record this, anyone know where I can host it? The full uncut version, I mean. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I'm guessing one of two finishes could happen. Beniot and HHH are drawed till the very last minute of the match. During that last minute Beniot puts the crossface or sharpshooter and in the last second HHH can't hold on anymore and taps. They go to a draw and Bischoff makes another match for Summerslam and makes the title vacant. aka How To Kill A Crowd 101 After the way the crowd shit all over Bischoffs announcement last night they CANNOT have a screwjob or dq finish to next week. Which, of course, is what they'll likely have. You've done a good job keeping it warm for Hunter, Chris.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I really hope they go the HHH/Rock route actually. That match was more creative and interesting than the HBK/Bret one by far.
BHK 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I really hope they go the HHH/Rock route actually. That match was more creative and interesting than the HBK/Bret one by far. I enjoyed both. Both better than Brock/Angle, anyway. Although even that match was a decent ***. There hasn't been a BAD Iroman match yet. At least in my opinion, anyway. and yes, a DQ finish would likely kill the crowd.
Guest 2pacallyps Report post Posted July 20, 2004 HHH can probably last 60 minutes. The problem is HHH doesn't have the moveset to do a thirty minute match without repeating half the moves and using the power of the knee . The problem is the WWE style limit's wrestlers like Benoit's movesets and HHH's is already very limited. Hopefully they let both guy's pull out every move they know and some they don't do. They'll probably need to do a brawling portion somewhere in the middle to cover up the some time insted of using long rest holds and to cover up for HHH limited moveset if he's going to be in control. (Like they did with HHH vs The Rock) Also I don't want to see over 10 germans like in Angle vs Lesnar. Hopefully Benoit will focus on a part of a body that will lead into a submission or pin fall, will set up his finishing submissions(sharpshooter, crossface) and will factor in at the finish. Hopefully HHH will work on the ribs/chest area and the neck/face area to set up the pedegree and work on Benoit's weakspot. It may be a great match and it might be a really slow match(WMIXX iron man) except with less moves than that match and slower peaks. They'll probably need to have atleast 3 falls each and some good nearfalls especially for the last fall. I hope Benoit retains.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I'm sure they may not get as much ad revenue, but I wonder when on free TV, why they don't go the soccer route and have every 7-10 minutes sponsored by somebody.
algrim 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 IMO, two things can happen: Eugene will help Benoit retain the belt or he will cause Benoit to lose the belt. Since it's HHH, I can also see Evolution members interfering, especially Flair.

I was thinking they could do it like this. You know how shows like 24 and Nip/Tuck do on the season premires with the show being commercial free and have one sponsor for that show. Like Ford did for 24 and XM radio did for Nip/Tuck. It could be like the ironman match is sponsored by Ford and it is because of them the WWE can bring you fans the ironman match commercial free. Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I didn't watch Raw last night so this is the first I'm hearing of this, however I don't like it. Rule of thumb with WWE seems to be "No Main Event Matches will end in a legitimate and satisfactory way on Raw or SmackDown" so I can't see this being good. I believe they're going to use this match to further other storylines personally. Jericho stops Batista from interfering to further that feud, Eugene stops Flair to set up a feud between those two(they tagged together and now it will be the idiot savant against the legendary veteran), Orton RKOs Benoit to give him a fresh opponent for SummerSlam but Edge makes the Save by spearing Triple-H. That's basically the only thing I see happening on Free TV.

JN News 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 As I said in the Raw thread, I'll be at next week's Raw. We all know that a motivated Triple H and Benoit can go, so if this doesn't hit at least ****, I'm going to be disappointed. I'm going to think about taking a handheld to get the full uncut hour, also. As far as Pittsburgh being one of the wrose crowds, I wouldn't say so. Of course, I haven't been to a live event since pre-brand split. I was at KOTR 98 though, and it was one of the loudest reactions I've ever seen when Foley fell off the cell. and JN_News, if you're not aware of the Hart/Hart Ironman I'm guessing you're not aware of the Flair/Bret one either? I guess I'm not aware of those 2 Ironman's. Are they on Collosium Video?
Guest Loss Report post Posted July 20, 2004 No, they were shot in the audience by a fan. No professional footage of those matches exists, but the handhelds have been traded for years.
megaadvice 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I feel one important thing to remember, and this really brought the Angle vs Lesner match down, is that they both have experiance. In HHH case he has wrestled as a heel in an iron man match before which SHOULD help him. And benoit, well we all know he can keep a match intresting for a length of time and has plenty of experience going 30 mins+ which Angle did not have much of and Lesner not altall. BHK 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I guess I'm not aware of those 2 Ironman's. Are they on Collosium Video? I've never personally seen either, but I'd reccomend checking out hart/Flair as I've talked to a lot a people about it and no one has rated it below ****, with a couple even going as high as ****3/4 I'm sure they may not get as much ad revenue, but I wonder when on free TV, why they don't go the soccer route and have every 7-10 minutes sponsored by somebody. If Vince and Co. were really witty, they'd of ocurse have it sponsored by Iron city beer

Guest SoZe Report post Posted July 20, 2004 Does anyone know if Benoit has even gone past 30?? I've been thinking about a lot of his best matches, and granted there's quite a few that I'm yet to see. I know he went 30 with Malenko at hogg wild, and last Sunday with H, but Euge was there at the end to take to focus away. I'm still looking forward to seeing the match, and like Chris' rematch with Michaels in May, am well aware that there will be NO possibility of a clean finish. It ain't happening. I know it, so I will have a chance to enjoy the wrestling that I get before the inevitable occurs. And when it does, like it did in May, I will be a lot less bitter than most, because you can't stop the inevitable. So, like in May, I'm just hoping for some great wrestling before the bullshit goes down.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted July 20, 2004 Damn, both wrestlers are going to have to dig deep into the wrestling bag of tricks for this match. Maybe Triple H will pull out the Indian Deathlock again, like he did against Booker T. at Wrestlemania? Maybe he'll pull out the Sleeper Hold again, like he used to beat Jeff Hardy? Maybe Chris Benoit will pull out a Dragon Suplex or his snap Powerbomb?

Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 20, 2004 No, they were shot in the audience by a fan. No professional footage of those matches exists, but the handhelds have been traded for years. Technically, we don't know. WWE MAY have it in their video library or maybe they don't. And yes, Benoit lasted over an hour in the 2004 Rumble Match, even breaking Backlunds record by 30 seconds. I still laugh at THAT question. Can Benoit go 30 minutes?! He was trained in the dungeon, he can probably go for 2 hours if he had to.
ANKLELOCK 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2004 On RAW last night, WWE had advertised a Chris Benoit vs. Ric Flair match for the World Heavyweight Title for Saturday 8/21 at the Fargo Dome. The event takes place six days after Summerslam. Credit: PWInsider Interesting. I know these things usually don't mean much, but it does indicate that Benoit will not only be in the Title Match at Summerslam but also win it.
Guest SoZe Report post Posted July 20, 2004 I know he went the distance in the rumble, and that was impressive. I own that on DVD, yet it slipped my mind because I'm half-retarded. And you can laugh at the question of whether or not he can go thirty all you want, because I never asked it fool. I even pointed out a time when he did it. I was just wondering when and if he's gone more than 30. I know where he was trained, and know that he can go 30. I'm sure that he'll be able to go 60, I just think this whole match has a lot of intangables to it. And laughing at a question that was never asked is laughable homey. Guest Staravenger Report post Posted July 20, 2004 ....Yeah. If you knew the answer already, why did you ask? That's like asking if Ric Flair can go for 60 minutes.
