You should really go see Slayer once, even if you don't like them. It's worth it for the sheer unabashed violence and long hair and black stuff. Deck a nazi skinhead while you're there, it feels GREAT.

Wire. I had to cover my ears at the back of the (reasonably large) hall to prevent pain, so the 15 minutes directly in front of the PA weren't much fun.

 

When I saw Pan Sonic they vibrated equipment off of their table and monitors off of the stage. I was impressed.

How was Judas Priest?

I really didn't pay much attention to them basically due to my lack of knowing them but they sounded fine and the crowd was pretty into it. Superjoint and Dimmu played to a silent crowd for the most part. I don't get why they were on the Main Stage. Slipknot, a band I'm not particulary fond of; had the best set of the whole event should have been a Main stage band although I believe the smaller stage adds to effect of slipknot.

The thing that I liked about SBC, converge, was that they played such a kick-ass show regardless of where they were playing or who they were playing with. I saw them in the basement of a church in Reading MA that was so small that it didn't even have a stage, and there were more police & security present than there were fans. Yet they still played an amazing show and had such energy.

 

Too few bands have the same passion anymore.

Meshuggah when they opened up for Slayer. They made Slayer look old, and I couldn't sleep because my ears were ringing.

 

Living Sacrifice. I saw them in what was basically a house run by a Vineyard Church. They had enough amps to play a large club. The floors rattled, and moshing was incredibly unique at that show.

I saw Ted Nugent last year when he toured with ZZ Top, and motherfucker he was loud! I was about 7 rows back from the amp stack and it's not like his BAND was loud, it was just his guitar was turned up to an unbelievably high level. Shit, my ears were ringing for a while. Also AC/DC at the Fleetcenter, they started off at a normal level, then as the show went on, it got progressivly louder until For Those About To Rock with the fuckin' cannons going off, needless to say I couldn't hear worth a damn for the next few days.

Andrew is incredibly loud, but it's a good loud. Your eardrums get happy instead of bleeding. More musicians need to let their fans onstage in massive swarming hordes.

When I saw Radiohead at Madison Square Garden, someone did actually manage to jump on stage. The security personnel tackled him and just slammed his head stiff into the ground. He was out cold immediately. Thom Yorke continued to twitch and have a club foot as if nothing had happened.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but, live, the drummer for Sigur Ros is really intense. He bashes at his kit with all the ferocity of some metal dude.

BAD BRAINS at a club in Wilmington, NC in the mid-90's. I've been around a lot of loud bands in my day, but I actually got nauseous this was so loud.

Impressive, but I hate Living Sacrifice with a passion after seeing them live in 02, they played with Project 86 opening for Taproot at the House of Blues...and I could barely understand a word nor could i make out much "music" between 86 and Sacrifice. The worst was the lead for 86 saying "buy our CD!" after EVERY DAMN SONG and talking about having to wear extension cord for a belt (which he was).

 

Yeah, the moshing was somewhat unique I guess...only cause most of the people there had NO CLUE what exactly they were moshing to. I saw a girl who couldn't have been 4'8" in the MIDDLE of it just going crazy...and I think she punched at least three guys during every song.

I saw Living Sacrifice, Project 86, and Stavesacre. It wasn't too loud, but it was a decent sized club. LS and Project 86, I did not like at all. Stavesacre was great.
