Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Nah, seriously. Who was it? Did you go and see a metal band and not tell anyone because you're shy? Or was this one of those "I was fourteen" kinda things?
Giuseppe Zangara Posted July 21, 2004 Author Report Posted July 21, 2004 Blood Brothers I enjoy doing it—gets the adrenaline going and all that—I just so rarely see bands where it's appropriate.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 You should really go see Slayer once, even if you don't like them. It's worth it for the sheer unabashed violence and long hair and black stuff. Deck a nazi skinhead while you're there, it feels GREAT.
Guest Derek Bailey Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Wire. I had to cover my ears at the back of the (reasonably large) hall to prevent pain, so the 15 minutes directly in front of the PA weren't much fun. When I saw Pan Sonic they vibrated equipment off of their table and monitors off of the stage. I was impressed.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted July 21, 2004 Author Report Posted July 21, 2004 I got knocked in the spine at Melt Banana. EDIT: I like this picture. It's Agata, Melt Banana's guitarist:
King Kamala Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Deck a nazi skinhead while you're there, it feels GREAT. Are you like a metal Captain America? Hmm that's a great idea for a TV show. Tonight on Metal Captain America, Special Guest Star: Tony Iommi I really don't go to many loud shows. Maybe I should. I'm sick and tired of going to namby pamby sissy ass shows! *Rushes out to get Goatwhore tickets*
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 No, I just really hate Indiana nazis, and I pick a fight with at least one of those dumbshits every time I see them sig-heiling at one of my favorite bands, with a hispanic lead vocalist, no less. They wrote a couple tracks referring to the holocaust, that doesn't mean they LIKE the holocaust, you fucks.
Guest tangerine Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 How was Judas Priest? I really didn't pay much attention to them basically due to my lack of knowing them but they sounded fine and the crowd was pretty into it. Superjoint and Dimmu played to a silent crowd for the most part. I don't get why they were on the Main Stage. Slipknot, a band I'm not particulary fond of; had the best set of the whole event should have been a Main stage band although I believe the smaller stage adds to effect of slipknot.
KanadianKrusty Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Motorhead by far, Slayer and In Flames were rather loud too.
PLAGIARISM! Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Wire. I had to cover my ears at the back of the (reasonably large) hall to prevent pain, so the 15 minutes directly in front of the PA weren't much fun. Aww. I wanna see wire. I'd imagine the more industrial stuff is awesome live. Do they play a mix or leave the old stuff out?
Guest Derek Bailey Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 I think they played mostly newer stuff, but I heard a song or two from 154 and Chairs Missing through the wall of white noise that my ears were picking up.
PLAGIARISM! Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Yeah, I adore ex lion tamer et al, but I just can't see them meshing in a set dominated by so many effects.
snuffbox Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 In this order... Primus at Bonnaroo 04 Slipknot AC/DC
converge241 Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 "and SBC was plenty loud to begin with. " AMEN Brother! man that was a long time ago, the last time i saw them that is, SBC, Meatmen, Buttrumpet @ Avalon id love to go back in the time machine and catch a classic SBC show again OR see Stompbox
nl5xsk1 Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 The thing that I liked about SBC, converge, was that they played such a kick-ass show regardless of where they were playing or who they were playing with. I saw them in the basement of a church in Reading MA that was so small that it didn't even have a stage, and there were more police & security present than there were fans. Yet they still played an amazing show and had such energy. Too few bands have the same passion anymore.
Guest ramsdell Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Andrew WK is super loud and super awesome
TheBigSwigg Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 Meshuggah when they opened up for Slayer. They made Slayer look old, and I couldn't sleep because my ears were ringing. Living Sacrifice. I saw them in what was basically a house run by a Vineyard Church. They had enough amps to play a large club. The floors rattled, and moshing was incredibly unique at that show.
mw679 Posted July 21, 2004 Report Posted July 21, 2004 I saw Ted Nugent last year when he toured with ZZ Top, and motherfucker he was loud! I was about 7 rows back from the amp stack and it's not like his BAND was loud, it was just his guitar was turned up to an unbelievably high level. Shit, my ears were ringing for a while. Also AC/DC at the Fleetcenter, they started off at a normal level, then as the show went on, it got progressivly louder until For Those About To Rock with the fuckin' cannons going off, needless to say I couldn't hear worth a damn for the next few days.
King Kamala Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 I also saw Ted Nugent opening for ZZ Top . He was pretty god damn loud, but I wasn't too close to the stage and the acoustics in the arena were shit.
Red Baron Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 From what I've heard, Kiss and The Who were loud back in the day.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 If you're not counting the shitty opening acts Andrew W.K. tends to tote around with him, it's definitely the Rollins Band. Boom.
PLAGIARISM! Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 How could I forget Andrew. It wasn't that loud, because I was able to climb onto the stage and hoist him around like a maniac for a while. Good times.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 Andrew is incredibly loud, but it's a good loud. Your eardrums get happy instead of bleeding. More musicians need to let their fans onstage in massive swarming hordes.
godthedog Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 i agree. i think it would work especially well for radiohead and sigur ros.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 23, 2004 Report Posted July 23, 2004 When I saw Radiohead at Madison Square Garden, someone did actually manage to jump on stage. The security personnel tackled him and just slammed his head stiff into the ground. He was out cold immediately. Thom Yorke continued to twitch and have a club foot as if nothing had happened.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted July 23, 2004 Author Report Posted July 23, 2004 I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but, live, the drummer for Sigur Ros is really intense. He bashes at his kit with all the ferocity of some metal dude.
Guest whitemilesdavis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 BAD BRAINS at a club in Wilmington, NC in the mid-90's. I've been around a lot of loud bands in my day, but I actually got nauseous this was so loud.
The Amazing Rando Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 Living Sacrifice. I saw them in what was basically a house run by a Vineyard Church. They had enough amps to play a large club. The floors rattled, and moshing was incredibly unique at that show. Impressive, but I hate Living Sacrifice with a passion after seeing them live in 02, they played with Project 86 opening for Taproot at the House of Blues...and I could barely understand a word nor could i make out much "music" between 86 and Sacrifice. The worst was the lead for 86 saying "buy our CD!" after EVERY DAMN SONG and talking about having to wear extension cord for a belt (which he was). Yeah, the moshing was somewhat unique I guess...only cause most of the people there had NO CLUE what exactly they were moshing to. I saw a girl who couldn't have been 4'8" in the MIDDLE of it just going crazy...and I think she punched at least three guys during every song.
Guest whitemilesdavis Posted July 28, 2004 Report Posted July 28, 2004 I saw Living Sacrifice, Project 86, and Stavesacre. It wasn't too loud, but it was a decent sized club. LS and Project 86, I did not like at all. Stavesacre was great.
cbacon Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Velvet Revolver , followed by Van Halen. Both this year
