Guest Salacious Crumb Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I really hope Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless aren't on PTI all week. I tried to watch today but all it was was them screaming at each other. Anyone else watch this trainwreck in action. It really makes me wish for Ryan and McMullin to come back. ATH is also getting annoying now that Woody is a total New York homer.
EVIL~! alkeiper Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Anyone else watch this trainwreck in action. I lasted about four minutes.
razazteca Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Damn I missed a "good" show. I went around town looking for the Chris Benoit dvd.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I heard they fired David Aldridge, is that true? Because then isn't Stephen F. Smith the main basketball guy by default?
razazteca Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 The guys from NBA Today: Kevin Frazier, Greg Anthony, Bill Lambeer. Should be taking over whatever David Aldridge did on tv. Maybe Dupree will get more tv time now.
Bruiser Chong Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I'm in the minority here. I like Smith. Yes he's a loudmouth, but there's something highly entertaining about that. I guess it's no surprise that I'm also a Max Kellerman fan.
Guest Smark-Raving Mad Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Skip Bayless needs to work on his cadence. When he read those mailbag questions, wow, that was tough to listen to.
Crimson G Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I'm in the minority here. I like Smith. Yes he's a loudmouth, but there's something highly entertaining about that. I guess it's no surprise that I'm also a Max Kellerman fan. I'm a Kellerman fan, too. I am addicted to I, Max and haven't seen PTI in about 3 months (they changed the timeslot from 3pm to 12pm, so I catch Kellerman instead at 11). Something about Smith rubs me the wrong way, though. Maybe it's that he's trying to be "street" and he's, well, not.
Guest Dumb Fuck Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 PTI was terrible... but it's always that way without Tony. Is it just me... or does it always sound like Smith knows absolutely nothing about any sport when he opens his yap? I hope PTI doesn't go through stretches of months where Tony and Wilbon aren't together, like they did last year... caused me to stop bothering to watch for quite a while. If they know Tony and Wilbon are out... just put Paige and Mariotti on for a week, and let 'em go at each other.
Guest tangerine Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Speaking of which, What IS up with Woody Paige these days? He's in NY all the time and apprently with Katie Couric or something.
Crimson G Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 They need to replace Michael Holley on I, Max with Jay Mariotti (who rules) and shoot Woody Paige like an injured horse. He's the most annoying man on television, and that says a lot.
Guest Dumb Fuck Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 How many guys did I, Max steal from ESPN? I don't get FSN, so I can't watch the show.
Crimson G Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 How many guys did I, Max steal from ESPN? I don't get FSN, so I can't watch the show. It's a 3-man show with Bill Wolff, Michael Holley & Max Kellerman. I absolutely hated Kellerman on ATH, but the format of I, Max allows him to be a total jackass while still being funny. Bill Wolff interacts well and has one of the greatest voices in sports (along with Kevin Calabro, IMHO).
Fökai Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 How many guys did I, Max steal from ESPN? Fox Sports signed two people away from ESPN - Max Kellerman and Bill Wolfe. Michael Holley was offered a spot on the show as well, but it required him to leave his column at the Boston Globe behind, which he agreed to. On topic: After the first segment, I was all too ready to put my fist through Bayless' head. Stephen A. Smith is a debacle in himself, but Skip kept making one outlandish comment after another. For example, when discussing the possibility of Randy Johnson going to the Yankees later this week, Bayless remarked that Johnson (exact quote)..."doesn't have the stomach to effectively pitch in the playoffs" Skip...does the 2001 World Series ring a bell?
Art Sandusky Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Woody Paige is a dynamo that we're fortunate enough to see via television.
The Czech Republic Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Why is Woody a NY homer now? I thought he was for Denver teams and various southern teams. Mariotti is the best thing ATH has going. How anyone who writes for the Chicago Sun-Times can have such an ego is beyond me, but hey, whatever.
The Man in Blak Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 ...so I've got to ask. How does Stephen A. Smith handle all of the non-BIGDOMINATINGSHAQDIESEL sports? Honestly, with all these "vacations" and other extended absences, I wonder if it's time to shelve Pardon the Interruption, since the show is nearly unwatchable when both Wilbon and Kornheiser aren't on. (The Summer of Dan LeBetard is proof enough of this).
Gert T Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I am pretty sure Wilbon/Kornheiser are coming back Thursday, but I am not 100% sure. I liked the Kornheiser/Stephen A. combo a few weeks ago.
nl5xsk1 Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 How so many people like Woody Paige is unfathomable to me. He'd be the worst guy on TV ... ... if Stephen A. Smith didn't exist. He seemingly only knows about basketball, but grandstands as a know-it-all on all sports. Plus, his need to make everything "!~OMG Racism~!" is tiresome. Skip's not bombastic enough to qualify for the 'worst guy on TV' award. But he's frigging awful, too.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 I'm pretty sure Woody is now on that Cold Pizza show, which I'm assuming is based out of NYC...
Slayer Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Last night was my first experience with Stephen Smith (I haven't had much chance to watch TV lately) and I see why the hatred amongst TSMers is warranted I like Skip Bayless when he subs for Jim Rome though, even though his constant bringing up of the Ohio State national championship bad call does get old (even from an OSU hater like me)
Crimson G Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Mariotti is the best thing ATH has going. How anyone who writes for the Chicago Sun-Times can have such an ego is beyond me, but hey, whatever. It's not just him, Roger Ebert works there, too. Maybe you were being sarcastic?
2GOLD Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Woody Paige is a god. That is all there is to say. Without Woody Paige, ATH would have been cancelled during the Kellerman days and damn sure would be cancelled with nothing but Reverend Bill on all the time. And Skip Bayless needs to be slugged for being an arrogant know it all like that dickweed that writes for Sports Illustrated in the back of the magazine. Whatever the hell his name is.
Guest Coffey Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Man, I hate Stephen A. Smith too. I can't stand watching NBA games on ESPN because I know that he'll have to run his mouth during the half-time show and verbally fellate the L.A. Lakers some more. At one time, I wanted to give him some credit because he really would state his mind. He's make predictions and stand by them up until the final moment...then I realized he's just thick-headed and cocky.
razazteca Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Steven A Smith is good in small doses but a whole 30 minute program of him just raising his voice over his co-workers is not only hard on the ears but hard to watch. Smith will forget what he is ranting about and go into character and just yell out in rage.
NoCalMike Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 Does Skip "The Cobra" Bayless bring Diet Moutain Dew on the set of PTI like he does to the Jim Rome radio show.......lol.
Guest Anglesault Posted July 27, 2004 Report Posted July 27, 2004 According to Skip, Rivera is now a washed up hasbeen that will be the sole reason the Yankees miss the playoffs because the Red Sox apparently have his number. Good to know. Especially since Rivera has never gone through a stint like this and come back as dominant as ever. Nope, never. Oh, okay, just about every year.

The guy wouldn't say something smart if it was written on a cue card for him. He's more obnoxious than Stephen A. Smith with even less charisma. Although day of Clueless makes me turn off PTI.

It's interesting that you said cue cards because these guys are making the show look more rehearsed than it probably is. Skip Bayless, incidentally, looks like a serial killer with his beady eyes.
