Summer Slam 2004

Recommended Posts

So, the ironman match is done and, thanks to a retarded helping hand, Chris Benoit is still the champ. Randy Orton won a number contenders battle royal and will go for the gold at SummerSlam.

On the other side of the coin, Vince McMahon fired Kurt Angle and re-instated him to the active roster and he will face Eddie Guererro, and the Undertaker will challenge for the WWE Title against JBL.

But that's only 4 matches, so what else will happen at SS?

Smart bets would be HHH vs Eugene, and La Resistance vs Tajiri/Rhyno. And an Edge IC title defense will happen as well, possibly as a 4-way involving Jericho, Batista and ???. Kane/Hardy Part 2 is a possibility, and the US title is vacant and a new champ should be crowned as well.

Kane vs. all the Diva Wannabes in a Scaffolding match...

...oh wait, this is card predictions, not what I want to see.

...for some reason, I see Edge defending the IC title against Batista. Don't know why though.

Along with the big four, we'll probably get four more...

Edge vs. Jericho (IC Title)

John Cena vs. Booker T (US Title)

La Rez vs. Rhyno & Tajiri (World Tag Titles)

Rey vs. Chavo vs. Spike vs. Noble (Cruiserweight Title)

Then, maybe stick RVD, Kidman & London vs. Dudleys & Rene Dupree on Heat or even on the PPV. I could actually see them going with a Ladder match for Cena-Booker T, if they are planning to copy the HBK-Razor feud from 94. Booker T has the belt, and now you just need Cena to get a "bogus" one. I wouldn't care either way, ladder match or normal match, because I wasn't too impressed with the Smackdown match.

Heat should have TWO Matches, one for each respective brand

Have

RVD Vs Rene Dupree

Maven Vs Christian (making his return by cutting a screw Canada promo and demands a challenge and Maven defends Canada's honor and gets ass whupped)

Why should one show get the heat match?

If Summerslam is a CO-BRAND show....then each brand should have a match represented on Heat.

Typically pre-PPV Heats have one match. Because they fill the rest of the time with hype video packages. Apparently lots of people have their minds made up to order the PPV during Heat. ;)

Because it's the Heat match. It's a match to break up the video packages and backstage interviews. It's a match that will be mentioned once briefly during the PPV and possibly once on the following Raw/Smackdown. The Heat match holds no real prestige and I don't even think it gives a full pay per view payday. Just let them do their usual "two random people fight for six minutes forno real reason" match instead of trying to instill meaning and story into the Heat match.

Certainly don't waste someone's big return on that show

All right fine

Chuck Palumbo Vs Rodney Mack then.

Random you want. Random you get.

Perfect. That's the definition of a Heat match. Pointless, stupid time waster.

No reason to put actual important storylines on the pre-PPV edition of Heat.

Leave that for the pay per view or the shows people actually watch.

I'd rather Jericho vs. Edge and see Edge get booed here. Jericho owns him up here.

True, but it is in Toronto, and Edge is from there. I don't think it'd be as pro-Jericho as you think.

Summerslam:

Benoit vs. Orton-World Title

Triple H vs. Eugene

Edge vs. Jericho vs. Batista-IC Title Match

-Jericho/Batista don't like each other, Jericho/Edge probably will have a segment next week seeing as Jericho threw out Edge and it was a big deal, so they don't like each other. Batista wants the IC title. Simple Booking.

La Rez vs. Rhyno/Tajiri-Tag Team Title Match.

Undertaker vs. JBL-WWE Title Match

Angle vs. Eddie

Dudleyz vs. London/Kidman vs. Rey/Spike (why the hell not, right?)-WWE Tag Title

Cena vs. Booker (version 93828)

-This will be the finals of a tourney.

To explain Kane not being on the card, they can have him beat the ever-loving shit out of Matt next week so viciously, that he gets suspended, or something equally lame. Or, they could add Matt/Kane as a ninth match.

Heat Match:

Either a random women's match, or Rene Dupree vs. RVD.

You stole my card.

As for Edge? Sorry but your boy isn't over and Jericho will easily outpop him unless they REALLY hammer down the EDGE is from TORONTO hype.

RAW tonight made it look like Edge will be facing Jericho. I, personally, would love to see that match.

But you leave Batistia out and I think he doesn't deserve that.

My boy? Well, I consider both Jericho and Edge my boys, so your theory's shot. :P

While I'm not going to get in an Edge debate, they *would* hammer down his hometown, quite shamelessly. They do that all the time, especially with Canadians.

I wonder which brand will have the last match of the show: Raw or Smackdown!?

Most sites are reporting if Orton is suppose to win they might let JBL vs UT be the last match, if UT is scheduled to win, because they like to leave PPV's on a high note with a face winning. I hope to god they change thier minds and keep the strap on the Crippler

I agree, and I wouldn't mind if they tossed him into the IC Title equation, but tonight's show made it look like Edge v. Jericho was the real storyline behind the match. His presence, if he's in, will be for naught.

after tonight's Battle Royal, I really want to see Batistia/Rhyno.

I hope we get a Rhyno/Tajiri Vs Evolution program after SLAM

I'd say JBL vs. Taker closes the show. Taker's several times the star Benoit or Orton are combined. Plus, I'm pretty sure it will "send the crowd home happy."

If Taker doesn't win the title he'll probably at least beat the crap out of JBL post-match.

Despite looking like a good card wrestling-wise, I'd have to say as far as buyrate-grabbing matches this is one of the weakest Summerslams I've ever seen.

While it's unlikely, don't completely count out the possibility of HHH and Eugene main eventing Summerslam. Actually, Kurt and Eddie would probably have more heat than the title matches as well.

While it would kind of make sense to have Taker winning the title be the main event, it just seems kind of bush league to have JBL main event the 2nd biggest PPV of the year, especially after they've gone out of their way to show that Smackdown's the second-rate show. The safe move is to just put Benoit and Orton out there, but they could still go in a number of different directions with the main event.

While HHH and Eugene is, quite simply, the single most built-up match right now, I really don't think so. However, stranger things have happened.

Kurt and Eddie I don't think so because Angle's going to be wrestling his first big match since coming back and Eddie's coming off an injury. Angle hinted a slower-paced match may be in order here. Also, it doesn't involve the title and WWE may not opt to have him main event since his title reign was "bombing."

I agree, but mainly on the latter point and not the former. Remember, Vince *really likes* JBL.

The safe move is to just put Benoit and Orton out there, but they could still go in a number of different directions with the main event.

After following Angle/Eddy, Eugene/HHH, and Taker/JBL, I don't think WWE would put them out there. Of course, we've seen some odd card arrangements, like a women's match 2nd from the top of the card, so some creative match arrangements may keep the crowd from being burnt out or dying if they're smart about it.

==

EDIT: I completely forgot Slam was in Toronto. While you'd *think* the crowd might be hot for Benoit...well, Toronto isn't most Canadian cities, so I have no idea.

==

Truthfully, they'll have to probably evaluate the crowd reactions up until then to see just what they want to have main event, so I guess it's a bit premature to guess right now.

Still, Brock was heatless going into his match with the Rock two years ago, but no one really expected he'd get that reaction.

Guys, it's here in Toronto and you think they won't want to screw us Canadians again? Orton is going to upset Benoit in the main event of SummerSlam and piss everyone off. The world title has now taken precedent over the wwe title which is a shame. I think the last time the wwe title headlined a co-brand ppv was WM 19. For some reason I just don't see Undertaker winning. I expect the Luger/Yoko type finish from SummerSlam '93.

The crowd reactions will depend what breed of fans bought the most tickets. I went to the smackdown tapings here a while ago and the crowd was pretty markish(low attendance), but other times I've gone when things are hot and the crowd was smarkish. Edge could easily get booed here. Shove that hometown crap down people's throat and just to be rebellious the crowd would boo him. Besides they might want to try the Austin turn with Edge in his hometown. Isn't Christian suppose to return? I wouldn't be surprised to see Edge turn heel with his "brother".

On the summerslam page on wwe.com it has Orton vs Benoit at the top, with JBL vs Taker 2nd so there is a very good chance Orton winning the title will be the last thing of the nite. Even though its Canada I still think Orton will get a good pop, and possibly a huge one if he gets a clean victory.

Guys, what do you think the odds are on there being a fatal four way match for the IC title (Edge vs. Jericho vs. Kane vs. Batista) ?
