The Classics Collection: Bret Hart DVD

Personally, I believe Owen vs. Bret at Slam 94 is better than the WM X match, anyway...

That may be true but it's also on DVD anyways.

Maybe Shane already knows that they are doing a BEST OF MANIA dvd and wants to save those two gems for it.

I'm disapointed in that actually, but when the guy only had THREE worthwhile matches...maybe it's better that way.

One is already used...(Owen tribute)

One involves the guy he hates with all his being...(Flair souled out)

and the other half is just worthwhile for the wrong reasons (Golderg 'Cade 99)

His brawl with Sting backstage on a Nitro in September 98 is probably better than 75% of his WCW stuff.

Um source please?

If you are talking about what Bret said on WOL, he was just talking about his favorite matches and what he'd like to see on the DVD, but it wasn't an official list or anything. He was just naming matches off the top of his head.

Although I do hope that this is fact...

While it was his first WCW Title and in his home country, the match fell way below the standards those two are known for.

However, If Flair can have the Rhodes Match and Benoit can have the Sid match, I suppose having the Mayhem match wouldn't be criminal.

I'm sure he had a good brawl with Sting, i simply don't recall it is all.

It was a Week after his "match" with Hogan when he turned on Sting, they were supposed to have a match and instead had a pretty good 10 minute brawl backstage which made people think the halloween havoc match would be great.

That Havoc match SHOULD have been amazing, there was no excuse(unless one of them was injured) for that match to suck as much as it did.

The Benoit/Hart Mayhem match is worthy if you ask me.

Also for stuff not from the WWF era, how about Bret's match with Flair? I forget what it was from but I don't remember it being a bad match.

Also, how about the match with Terry Funk in ECW which was suppose to be Funk's last match ever(This was probably Funk's 8th or 9th retirement by that point).

I am however surprised they didn't include the Kiss My Foot Match. The Lawler promos leading up to that match made the whole feud. One of the funnier things I recall from my childhood wrestling watching days.

I remember reading in the Torch newsletter that Bret was dealing with knee problems in late '98 and early '99. That could be one of the reasons his WCW matches weren't up to par. Besides, I remeber some Benoit and Malenko matches from the same period that weren't ***. Let's remember that the booking was atrocious. I'll take any match Bret had in WCW than any main event from that era (98-99).

the Owen hart tribute match is on the Benoit DVD, therefore I don't plan on ever acknowledging Bret's WCW run again, ever. The way they misused him was criminal. It was jsut awful.

I listened to the show in question. This shit is all conjecture from some guy with 4 posts on the board. Really, people should've thought this through before getting carried away with it.

The meeting hadn't even HAPPENED at the time the show took place. The meeting was set for the next day. This is just goofy.

If this is legit, I'm looking forward to finally seeing The Harts vs The Steiners.

I'm guessing that list are the matches that MIGHT make the dvd since no one has given a source yet. So let me ask this, are there any of those matches which are listed that you would like to make the dvd? I'd like them all but yeah I don't think that'll happen.

Sting/Bret from Mayhem a gem?

Bret/Benoit from Mayhem a gem?

I guess when you sit on the toilet and go #2 you see "gems".

These were two mediocre matches, that were elevated into "great" status...you know, what, let me interrupt myself...

Sting/Bret was shit.

Benoit/Bret was elevated into "what a final!" status, due to Mayhem '99 as a whole BEING UTTERLY AWFUL.

Benoit/Bret from Mayhem was okay. Marred by interference by EVERY SINGLE MAIN EVENTER.

Benoit/Bret "Owen Tribute" was a good match. It wasn't "super special", IMO, but it was "special" in that it paid respect to Owen, and was a good, clean bout.

The Mayhem match PALES in comparison.

I doubt you'll see Razor/Bret KOTR, nor Bret/Bigelow KOTR.

Honestly, Bret's WCW run was a disaster. He had not one memorable match that mattered. Ever. The match with Benoit at "Kember" was non-storyline (Bret cleanly defeated the TV Champ), and although good, didn't reflect either man's storyline.

I say, McMahon...and Bret...PORTRAY BRET'S RUN IN WCW AS BEING TERRIBLE. Because by that time, Bret was over the hill, as were his regular opponents (Flair, Hennig, Luger, DDP, Sting, Vicious).

And don't even show Goldberg's "career ending kick". Because the actual kick is not even impressive.

And if anyone has anything to argue or say against this, I will back it up with clips, posted here, or reports, of Bret's most ridiculous "tenure" in WCW.

As a major WCW historian, I sometimes try to ignore that Bret Hart ever existed in the company. And it's not all his fault. Just his opponents and lame bookers.

Edit: To FRIGIDSOUL: Souled Out 1998. (Vs. Flair)

On a lighter note...

Anyone here seen the post-WrestleMania VII match on Coliseum Video between The Hart Foundation and The Legion of Doom?

LOD goes over, but honestly, I don't remember if it was any good. I was just happy to see such a bout.

I'd include that over say, the KOTR 93 bouts or the 1st HBK ladder match, because it's just as rare as the ladder match, and for the marks, I think less people have seen it than the Michaels bout.

Still, my KOTR tape will remain a favorite....

I'd absolutely love to see the LOD match, and I've the the Coliseum Video ladder match with Bret v. Shawn, but really, the smart money's on the ladder match. The vast majority of WWE fans haven't seen the first WWF ladder match. If you're going for rare matches, that's definitely the one I'd choose.

As for the KOTR matches, maybe the one with Bigelow (I think that was the final, otherwise, whatever the final actually was.)

I don't see why we have to get into Survivor Series 1997 at all. They didn't mention it on the Shawn set. Why can't they skip over it here, as well? It's certainly not one of his greatest matches. I'd rather just let the goddamn subject die already.

Personally, I believe Owen vs. Bret at Slam 94 is better than the WM X match, anyway...

Why?

I re-watched Mania 10 recently and I don't think the cage match is in the same universe.

The match Bret had with Mr. Perfect at KOTR '93 was also good. They should include both. I myself haven't seen it, but the majority seems to like it.

After Sledgehammer slapped me back to reality, I have to go with just putting the match he had with Flair from SO'98.

The cage match is in the top 5 matches of all time list where some people either think it was awesome or the othere group who say it was just good to okay. Personally, I love this match like anything so I'm in the awesome camp as this match just sucked me in for the entire duration. It's a different match than Mania but not completely so it's somewhat hard to compare but I have the two matches around the same level.

The match at KOTR 93 was beyond good. I'm glad that you liked it. One of the most beautiful and rewatchable matches I've ever seen and practically flawless. I wouldn't change a thing about it. Criminally underrated.

Just don't let Bret pick the matches.

He thinks the Iron Man with HBK was the best match of his career or some nonsense.

I could be wrong on this, but I believe the Iron Man with OWEN was the match he referred to.
