Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 That was worth a double post, I think.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 Hadn't heard that yet, but yes, worth a double. I'm intrigued, and I wonder if they'd still have that same weird sadness so many years later. I've found an odd way to listen to Spiderland: in the car. For some reason I've been picking up the subtleties on the way to work in the morning. My job must suck. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 I tried listening to Spiderland in the car once. I nearly ran off the road during "Washer." Never again.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 And I'd rather they not reform, even if it's just for some one-off show at this year's UK ATP festival, as the rumors are dictating. I don't know about the other guys so much, but David Pajo (aka Papa M) is a pretty happy, well-adjusted dude these days. I just can't see him having a part in such depressing, harrowing music now. EDIT: I have this picture of me and Pajo, but I don't like the way I look in it.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 It also might be a little odd for guys in their 30s now to try and capture the mortifying loneliness of being blasted Kentucky youth, unless their careers have really gone to shit. And it would be even weirder to hear Slint, who are basically iconic for six songs (Tweez notwithstanding), take the music in any other direction. I'd still go see them play, of course, given the chance. To everyone who is just watching the two of us masturbate over this superb band: you should really buy Spiderland. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 But David Pajo makes really awesome music under the Papa M moniker these days. I'd say he's doing alright for himself; I've no clue what the other three members have done since, really.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 My take on last year's best hip-hop album: Dizzee Rascal - Boy in da Corner Sitting Here: 8 Stop Dat: 6 I Luv U: 10 Brand New Day: 9 2 Far: 6 Fix Up, Look Sharp: 8 Cut 'Em Off: 4 Hold Ya Mouf: 7 Round We Go: 8 Jus a Rascal: 10 Wot U On: 6 Jezebel: 7 Seems 2 Be: 6 Live O: 5 Do It: 8 Vexed: 5 Individually there are only 7 or 8 superstar songs, but all lined up, they make for one really great stretch of an album. Overall, the album gets a 9.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 Dizzee Rascal! I had him in my sig up until earlier this week. I agree with your ratings for the most part, except I'd bump Sitting Here and Jezebel up to 9s, and bump Vexed down to a 5. Good call on I Luv U. One of the best hip hop singles of all time. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 You're right; I actually don't know why I gave "Vexed" a 7. I think I had "Do It" as a 7 at first and shifted that down, or something odd. "Vexed" is actually pretty out of place since it wasn't on the U.K. album. I think I'll fix that.

5_moves_of_doom 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 Gloria: 10 Redondo Beach: 9 Birdland: 5 Free Money: 6 Kimberly: 7 Break It Up: 9 Land: 10 Elegie: 7 Hrmph. Funny. Birdland and Free Money are two of my favorites, falling just short of Gloria and Land status. Birdland does get a bit tiring though due to the length and the lack of the song really... evolving... into anything, but I still like it a lot. Nice mood to it. And I've been meaning to pick up Spiderland for eight months now. I think I'll finally go for it.
caboose 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 To everyone who is just watching the two of us masturbate over this superb band: you should really buy Spiderland. I own it, and my favourites are Don, Aman and Washer. Both a 9 from me. Ive only ever sat through Good Morning Captain twice. I don't like being in the mood I'm in when I enjoy that track.
