Okay, I'm interested in finding out about real punk rock, because sadly I live in the generation of Good Charolete and Yellowcard.

So, if you would be so kind, recomend me the best five or ten songs by: The Clash, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Misfits and maybe a few by other bands I've most likely never heard of. But I'm really looking for the bands I've mentoned. So PLEASE HELP ME!

Okay, I'm sorry about hte old thread and totally forgetting. I'm a moron, I believe I've proved this.

And Corey, could you explain teh whole eras thing with the misfits?

And the boards are being mean to me, so if it takes me eons to reply, sorry.

The misfits have had three eras, part of one of which was worth a shit, though Corey will disagree with this vehemently. Former lead singer Glenn Danzig did an admirable job at the time of working the horrorshow angle with the band, and doing creepy-crawly punk rock. Graves is like the shitty sequel to the horror movie, and there's nothing of note whatsoever in that period of the Misfits. Most recently, it's like, 2 original members or some bullshit still doddering around calling themselves "The Misfits" when their glory days were nigh a quarter century ago. Severely overrated band.

Okay, thanks for the help. And in defense of starting this thread agian, people lost me after they started bringing up a zillion bands I'd never heard of.

So why not listen to a few?

True, I am trying to listen to new bands, but I'm kinda getting my feet wet before jumping into the deep end, so to speak. I don't know if I'll like punk rock at all, so I'd rather check out some stuff most people agree on, and names I'd at least recognize, before going off into the whole scene. I've led a horribly sheltered life musically, so I'm kinda taking baby steps so to speak.

There's been atleast a dozen of these threads and most of them are about punk rock.

Here's my band recommendations:

NOFX - Linoleum, Theme from a NOFX Album (Hilarious!), Dinosaurs Must Die

Sublime (Some consider them punk) - Santeria, The Wrong Way

The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go, Train in Vain, Rock the Casbah

The Misfits - Die Die My Darling, Last Caress, Bullet, Where Eagles Dare

Rancid - Ruby Soho (I need to listen to more of their songs, but that one is good)

"Nihilsm" > "Ruby Soho"

I'd also recommend you some Dropkick Murphys. Here's a little list of tunes by them that OWN:

"Barroom Hero"

"Fightstarter Karaoke"

"The Fighting 69th"

"The Spicy McHaggis Jig"

"The Dirty Glass"

"Worker's Song"

"For Boston"

And of course, you can't talk Murphys without talking "Kiss Me, I'm Shitfaced."

The Clash (the album) is a great punk manifesto. Its what pure and unadulterated punk is was and ever shall be. I myself prefer London Calling because it meshed ska, reggea, and punk effortlessly. Simply put, London Calling is one of the greatest pop/rock albums of all time although "the Clash" trumps it on pure attitude.

Also check out The Dead Kennedys, and if your inteested in the roots of punk, check out Velvet Underground.
