Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Okay, I'm interested in finding out about real punk rock, because sadly I live in the generation of Good Charolete and Yellowcard. So, if you would be so kind, recomend me the best five or ten songs by: The Clash, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Misfits and maybe a few by other bands I've most likely never heard of. But I'm really looking for the bands I've mentoned. So PLEASE HELP ME!

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Yes, he did. Oh well. "Descending Angel"* "Great Balls Of Fire"~ "Where Eagles Dare" "Die, Die My Darling" "Bullet" "TV Casualty" "Scream!"* "Donna"~ "Saturday Night"* "Dig Up Her Bones"* "Abominable Dr. Phibes"* "Come Back" "Static Age" "Green Hell" "Last Caress" "She" "Them"* "Monster Mash" (I don't know when they covered it, but I'm willing to believe it's Misfits 25)
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Okay, I'm sorry about hte old thread and totally forgetting. I'm a moron, I believe I've proved this. And Corey, could you explain teh whole eras thing with the misfits? And the boards are being mean to me, so if it takes me eons to reply, sorry.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 29, 2004 The misfits have had three eras, part of one of which was worth a shit, though Corey will disagree with this vehemently. Former lead singer Glenn Danzig did an admirable job at the time of working the horrorshow angle with the band, and doing creepy-crawly punk rock. Graves is like the shitty sequel to the horror movie, and there's nothing of note whatsoever in that period of the Misfits. Most recently, it's like, 2 original members or some bullshit still doddering around calling themselves "The Misfits" when their glory days were nigh a quarter century ago. Severely overrated band. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Okay, thanks for the help. And in defense of starting this thread agian, people lost me after they started bringing up a zillion bands I'd never heard of. LFV= Music N00b.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 29, 2004 So why not listen to a few?
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 Isn't the point of asking for reccomendations to be exposed to bands of which you were previously unaware?
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted July 29, 2004 True, I am trying to listen to new bands, but I'm kinda getting my feet wet before jumping into the deep end, so to speak. I don't know if I'll like punk rock at all, so I'd rather check out some stuff most people agree on, and names I'd at least recognize, before going off into the whole scene. I've led a horribly sheltered life musically, so I'm kinda taking baby steps so to speak.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2004 There's been atleast a dozen of these threads and most of them are about punk rock. Here's my band recommendations: NOFX - Linoleum, Theme from a NOFX Album (Hilarious!), Dinosaurs Must Die Sublime (Some consider them punk) - Santeria, The Wrong Way The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go, Train in Vain, Rock the Casbah The Misfits - Die Die My Darling, Last Caress, Bullet, Where Eagles Dare Rancid - Ruby Soho (I need to listen to more of their songs, but that one is good)
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 Rancid - Ruby Soho (I need to listen to more of their songs, but that one is good) "Nihilsm" > "Ruby Soho" I'd also recommend you some Dropkick Murphys. Here's a little list of tunes by them that OWN: "Barroom Hero" "Fightstarter Karaoke" "The Fighting 69th" "The Spicy McHaggis Jig" "The Dirty Glass" "Worker's Song" "For Boston" And of course, you can't talk Murphys without talking "Kiss Me, I'm Shitfaced." LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 Yeah that's one of those songs I haven't heard yet as far as Rancid.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 Clash Greatest song=Rock the casbah False. Between Clash US and London Calling I can rattle off 15 songs I'd call much better than "Rock the Casbah." I really don't like Combat Rock. At all.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 Outside a couple of songs, Combat Rock sucks. In fact, the only Clash album I really like is London Calling, and I love that one.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 You don't like The Clash [uS]? It's great, if less elegant than London Calling. "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais" especially.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 Oh, there are good songs scattered throughout their discography, but I can't listen to the s/t without being bored.
Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2004 If the good tracks on Sandinista! were put on one disc, it would be a nigh-untouchable album, I think.
Guest Kid Kablam Report post Posted July 30, 2004 The Clash (the album) is a great punk manifesto. Its what pure and unadulterated punk is was and ever shall be. I myself prefer London Calling because it meshed ska, reggea, and punk effortlessly. Simply put, London Calling is one of the greatest pop/rock albums of all time although "the Clash" trumps it on pure attitude. Also check out The Dead Kennedys, and if your inteested in the roots of punk, check out Velvet Underground.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 I prefer Give 'Em Enough Rope to the debut Clash album. I think that may be only because Give 'Em Enough Rope features "Tommy Gun", my favourite Clash track. The debut is still fucking great though.
