AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 Okay, I have some hijacker that keeps popping up even after I've used HijackThis!, Spybot, and NoAdware to try and find it. Now, the odd thing is, it's not just hijacking IE, but every single fucking page I open up on the AOL brower starts sliding down(best way I can put it) and the "Search for..."(the hijacking page) page is seemingly right under it. I've tried damn near everything to get rid of it and it's not working, so can someone PLEASE help a brotha out?
MrRant 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 Any particular website it trys to take you to?
Secret Agent 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 Without telling us where the hijack is redirecting you to it is hard to really tell, as Mr. Rant already stated. However, you could always give about:blank bustera whirl. Another tool to try is CW Shredder, if none of those two work it is still a good idea to have it incase. I always reccomend: Spybot, Ad-Aware 6, CW Shredder, Hijack This!, and Spy Sweeper for these kinds of things, and running them in that order. Also, are you running these spyware/adware sweeps in safe mode? If not, then you need to be. Also try deleting your "My Favorites" list as that could be infected as well. Oh, Kazaabegone is another good one if you have ever had Kazaa on your machine. We all know that program likes to keep some of it's files on your machine even after uninstall. Hope some of this gives you ideas to try for now.
AlwaysPissedOff 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 The page it keeps going to is some goofy search page that has a pop-up talking about how my PC is infected and has some sort gauge for like "high-risk" or something like that. I'm gonna close IE and edit in what all's on the page if it helps to identify what the hell this is.
Guest Random Hero Report post Posted July 31, 2004 That sounds like exactly what I have. I couldn't get rid of it either so I started using Mozilla instead of IE.
Guest macheteofodin Report post Posted July 31, 2004 Were you being directed to pages with a "res://" type address? If so, I had to fix a computer with the same problem. Unfortunately, I couldn't fix it easily. I tried everything imaginable to do it without a reinstall, but nothing worked. I just backed up what I could, reformated the hard drive and reinstalled the OS. Whoever came up with this and other similar things should have a limb or two ripped off and be submerged into a tub of lemon juice.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2004 I'm having very similar problems. I've tried using Spybot and about:buster, which seems to work, but everytime I try entering my Hotmail account, it instantly sends me to about:blank, which is SO fucking annoying. Any tips? EDIT: Just tried CWShredder and the problem is over! Finally I've got access to my e-mails. Thanks greatly Secret Agent!!
