JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 Maybe Amdrag vs. Homicide or Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk's 60 minute draw from ROH? Maybe the super loud Joe vs. Chris Hero match from IWA-MS? Hero and Punk's 56 minute match at IWA-MS One More Time? Maybe Joe and Dragon's 30 minute draw from PWG? What's your pick for indy match of the midyear? Obviously we're all limited to stuff we've actually SEEN...but what's your pick?
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted August 4, 2004 Here are my choices: ROH - Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk - 60 Minute Draw - World Title Classic ROH - Samoa Joe vs. Jay Briscoe - Cage Match - At Our Best IWC - AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels - Super Indy 3 I just got ROH's Round Robin Challenge III and Survival of the Fittest and I haven't watched them. I will be getting some more IWA-MS and CZW too so, I haven't seen everything that I want from the Indy scene yet this year.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted August 4, 2004 My vote is Punk/Joe. I haven't seen much, but I honestly can say I don't think anything, put on by anyone, will be able to match the intenseity and drama of that match. Some matches may be more "well worked" with more moves or whatnot, but I doubt that Joe Punk will me matched this year, let alone bested.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 Based on what I've seen, Joe vs. Punk at World Title Classic, hands down. But who knows? Something I haven't seen coulda topped it by now.

Simply because if a match goes to the caliber(in ring) of that match and has an actual finish......I would say it's better. The match rocks though..... Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted August 4, 2004 I was there live. I'm biased. Punk looked right at me (i was the one starting the lets go punk chats) I met Traci Brooks, nearly fell off the bleachers at one of the near falls, so yea, I'm biased. I wonder if I made camera.... I'm the dork in the yankee's hat and white tee shirt in the very top row of the bleechers opposite hard cam. I would be on the far left. I haven't had money to buy the tape yet, so could ya tell me if i made it on? Did I just ramble for a paragraph about absolutely nothing on topic? If so, let me add in that I liked Joe vs. Jay at AOB alot, but the blood made it hard to watch.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 1) American Dragon vs. Homicide (4/25/04): Simply the best mic of story and wrestling I've ever seen on the indies. It gets better every time you watch it, the work is just so smart. 2) American Dragon vs. Austin Aries (6/24/04): This is really the last 2 of a 6 way final, but they totally reset and do a seperate 23 minute singles match that just blows me away. Easily the match of Austin's career, and in Dragon's top 2 or 3. 3) CM Punk vs. Samoa Joe (6/12/04): This is how you work a broadway. No long double body part submission heat segments, just a war between these men for the title. This SMOKED the Hero-Punk match from the night before. From here I think there's a real big drop....and then you get to matches like a lot of the Cannon-Hero stuff, Briscoe tags, Jay-Joe, AJ-Sydal, Aries-Sydal, etc. We have 2 legit challengers coming up this month with Aries-Dragon 2/3 falls this saturday, and Hero-Dragon 8/21 in IWA. JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 For those replying, I'd also like to hear if you saw the match live. I'm sure at times it's completely different than how it translates on tape because of the whole "experience" of being there. And Michrome - will you be getting PWG The Musical? I'm sure Dragon/Joe for 30 minutes might be up there on the list.
DCMaximo 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2004 I haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I'll throw in a mention of Chris Hero vs B-Boy from IWA Simply The Best 5, 2/3 Falls. Great match from probably two of my favourite indy guys.
Guest SoCalTF Report post Posted August 4, 2004 From what I've seen: 1. AJ Styles vs. Rocky Romero at PWG's last show 2. AJ Styles vs. Matt Sydal at IWA-MS's Simply The Best 5 3. American Dragon vs. Rocky Romero at Inoki Dojo's Best of The American Super Juniors 4. Super Dragon vs. CM Punk at PWG's last show But my MOTY so far goes American Dragon vs. Samoa Joe at The Musical.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 I'm yet to see almost all the top-end match of the year contenders (i've got no IWA:MS from this year other than KOTDM and no ROH beyond Battle Lines Are Drawn, thoiugh that'll be changing very soon with some new orders coming in), but out of what i have seen i'd be inclined to go with American Dragon vs Rocky Romero from the Best of the American Super Juniors. Only around 12 minutes or so, but every second of it is fantastic, a longer rematch between the two needs to happen as soon as possible and would no doubt rival the very best matches that've happened this year. Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted August 5, 2004 American Dragon vs. Homicide- Reborn Stage 2, easily the match of the year from what I've seen. Dragon works the HAND like a fucker. Great match.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 Thus far, my indy MOTY is Adrenaline vs. Sabotage from NECW in March (I forget the event's name) in Framingham. HEATED match, and even though I think Chris Venom of Adrenaline and DC Dillinger of Sabotage both suck, Brian Fury (Adrenaline) and Eddie Edwards (Sabotage) are good enough (with Edwards being insanely awesome) to make the match memorable. I don't know. It's not even that this match could stand up against any of the other indy MOTYC's listed here. It's just I loved this match so much because it was heated as hell, and showed the hatred the two teams had for each other (both teams were cheating out of their ass, and Adrenaline are the old-school faces, and action was completely non-stop for the whole bout, with only some minor Ricky Morton work done). ***1/2 easily, and I'd recommend ANYBODY get a copy of that show, as the main event (Maverick Wild vs. Antonio Thomas) was also ***1/2. Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2004 Just for live perspective, Hero/Joe from 5/29 was the best match I've seen this year, just for the absolutely UNREAL atmosphere involved. As far as everything else I've seen on tape this year (and some I saw live and on tape): 1) Chris Hero/B-Boy (IWA-MS Simply the Best 5) 2) Homicide/American Dragon (ROH Reborn: Chicago) 3) Chris Hero/CM Punk (IWA-MS One More Time) 4) 2nd City Saints/Briscoes (ROH Reborn: Chicago) 5) Sydal & Delirious/Homicide & B-Boy (IWA-MS You've Gotta See This) 6) AJ Styles/Matt Sydal (IWA-MS Simply the Best 5) 7) Team Chismo & X-Foundation/Scorpio Sky-Chris Bosh-Quicksilver-Topgun Talwar-Charles Mercury (PWG 88 Miles Per Hour) 8) Chris Hero/Arik Cannon (April IWA Lafayette show) 9) Matt Sydal/Austin Aries (April IWA Lafayette Show) 10) CM Punk-BJ Whitmer-Samoa Joe/Chris Hero-B-Boy-Homicide (IWA-MS Volcano Girls) 11) Caprice Coleman/Rainman 2/3 Falls (Wildside TV from early-2004) 12) Samoa Joe/Jay Briscoe (ROH One More Time) 13) MsChif/Mickie Knuckles/Rain/Lacey/ODB/Daizee Haze (March IWA Highland Show) 14) Delirious/Matt Sydal (March Highland show) 15) Double Dragons/X-Foundation (PWG Tango & Cash Invitational)
Guest Evolution Report post Posted August 5, 2004 From what I've seen: Joe/Punk World Title Classic - I haven't even seen this entire match--only 20 minutes from the beginning and 10 minutes at the end--and I already know it was probably one of the best matches this year. I can't wait to see the whole thing. Hero/B-Boy Simply The Best 5 - I saw this live, and it was the best match of the night on a card that was simply excellent. AJ/Sydal was just as good, and gets honorable mention here simply because I mark for Hero. Punk/Steel vs. Whitmer/Maff July Chicago Ridge ROH Show - Saw this live as well, and it was one of the most emotional matches I've ever seen in a ROH show. Whitmer/Maff were so over as heels and Punk/Steel the same as faces that the atmosphere was absolutely electric, and there were very few people who didn't crowd themselves near the ring to see the action up close and personal. It was an excellent hardcore match because they just put their bodies on the line for everyone there, and the feud had been drawn out so well that the battle lines were drawn, to borrow a name from an ROH show, and there were clearcut faces and heels, even though the fans were moaning in mutual pain at every sick spot. An emotionally intense match that I'll never forget. EDIT: How could I forget Punk/Hero near-hour match at One More Time? I was in a car for eight hours to get here to see this show, and this match did not disappoint. Not much else to say...it's Punk/Hero! Honorable mention goes to Hero/Joe. I saw this on tape, but I wish I was there live. The match itself isn't all that great, but the crowd heat makes the match so much better looking.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted August 5, 2004 Here are my choices: ROH - Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk - 60 Minute Draw - World Title Classic ROH - Samoa Joe vs. Jay Briscoe - Cage Match - At Our Best IWC - AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels - Super Indy 3 addedROH - Samoa Joe vs. Mark Briscoe vs. Austin Aries vs. American Dragon vs. Colt Cabana vs. Homicide - Survival of the Fittest I just got ROH's Round Robin Challenge III and Survival of the Fittest and I haven't watched them. I will be getting some more IWA-MS and CZW too so, I haven't seen everything that I want from the Indy scene yet this year. Well, I wanted to add to this because Joe changed really what he wanted to know. I did attend the 3/13 ROH show where they did the Joe/Jay Briscoe Cage match. The match came across as Jay basically playing the superman role, where he got his ass handed too him and just wouldn't quit. Awesome stuff, and there is no doubt that Jay will be a star for ROH in the future for sure. Also, AJ and Daniels was just fucking boss. They went out and put on a 30 minute masterful contest. They flew, they wrestled, they brawled.....everything about it was AWESOME. I've seen it on tape and it's definately a little better in person(the atmosphere for the show was unreal.....great crowd) but on TV.....it came across great. Also I just watched ROH's Survival of the Fittest, and the final of the SOTF was awesome as well. Homicide, Mark Briscoe, Austin Aries, American Dragon, Samoa Joe, and Colt Cabana in a 44 minute 6 man elimination. These guys were out to impress from the beginning. I don't wanna give it away but the first fall was a great upset and shows that when they want to.....they can really do solid booking. Also, Aries and Dragon put on a fucking show in the match too. These guys REALLY worked well together and I can't wait to see their work together in the future.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted August 5, 2004 You gonna make the trip to the next Ohio ROH show DK? Uh, back on topic.... I really think the Six Man from BLAD should be ranked higher. Maybe I'm biased again. But it's positively INSANE brawl. And the actuall work before the brawl is quite solid too.

I was thinking about going, but it's in October....so basically it's too early and I haven't decided yet. I would like to go though................. Next weekend I am going to the IWC Summer Sizzler, the main event is Homicide vs. AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels so basically that has potential to be a MOTYC expecially considering that IWC usually ALWAYS gives them enough time to work......also looking forward to the Punk/Hero match there too. We might have some candidates on that show.......
