1234-5678 Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I am in need of some new musical inspirations, and they seem to be the most respected band in the past decade or so. So, what shall I give a listen to?
5_moves_of_doom Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 OK Computer and The Bends are considered to be the two essentials by just about anyone that you would ask. I like the former better as an entire album, but I like the latter better song-for-song... so I just advise that you pick up both. That should be enough to start you out. I'm not sure if you wanted me to suggest albums or just individual songs. By the way, does anyone have an in-depth scoop on the band's state at the moment? I heard that they were taking a hiatus or something... I've heard several different things about what their plans are though, and I'm not sure what to believe.
1234-5678 Posted August 5, 2004 Author Report Posted August 5, 2004 Maybe 4-5 songs to download so I can get an idea what they are like now. I, of course, only know of "Creep", since my musical tastes rarely go past 1994.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 OK Computer is their masterpiece, and I am a big fan of both Amnesiac and Kid A as well. The Bends gets a lot of love but I like the other three albums I named better. Hail to the Thief was very mediocre in my opinion, probably not worth a purchase. As far as individual songs go, I like (not an inclusive list by any means): "Lucky" - OK Computer "Paranoid Android" - OK Computer "Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box" - Amnesiac "Idioteque" - Kid A "Electioneering" - OK Computer "Airbag" - OK Computer
Guest ian. Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 I'd start with these songs, personally: Street Spirit(fade out) Fake Plastic Trees Karma Police Black Star Sail to the Moon
Guest Temet Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Electioneering is Radiohead at their rockiest so you might like that. Paranoid Android, Street Spirit, Karma Police and 2+2=5 are all standouts. You might also want to look at live versions of I Might Be Wrong and Idioteque, which are far superior to their album versions. Best recording ever of IMBW here.
Guest Ex WDI Member Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Some of my personal favourites off of The Bends and OK Computer OK Computer Paranoid Android Karma Police Exit Music The Bends Fake Plastic Trees Street Spirit (fade out) Just
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 No one has mentioned the actual song “The Bends” yet, which is too bad. It’s great. Get that for sure. For OK Computer, try the one-two punch of “Airbag” and “Paranoid Android,” which opens the album. Add “Lucky,” as already suggested, or “Exit Music (For a Film)” and you’ll get a taste of the album’s more downbeat pieces.
BX Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 A great library of live Radiohead concerts. http://www.cuttooth.com/concerts/live.htm Also note; http://ftso.org/radiohead/ Download and enjoy. They're legal, too.
Lord of The Curry Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Check out "Climbing up the walls" from OK Computer if you're into a more dark sound. Thom has said that it's the darkest song he's ever done and the song itself is one of the more oft-discussed amongst Radiohead fans because of the story it contains.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 No one has mentioned the actual song “The Bends” yet, which is too bad. It’s great. Get that for sure. This is the best song they've ever done; I don't know why people say otherwise. That fucking riff is like aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Art Sandusky Posted August 5, 2004 Report Posted August 5, 2004 Just because of how I accidentally found it and the title, "Punch-Drunk Love Song" is also quite enjoyable.
Guest Temet Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 Just because of how I accidentally found it and the title, "Punch-Drunk Lovesick Singalong" is also quite enjoyable. Edited for accuracy. Yes, I'm picky.
Art Sandusky Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 I've never seen it called that anywhere. Seriously. Maybe I was going to the wrong sites looking for the lyrics that one time.
Guest frowned Posted August 6, 2004 Report Posted August 6, 2004 My fave tracks album by album: Pablo Honey: Anyone Can Play Guitar The Bends: Just Street Spirit My Iron Lung OK Computer: Lucky Electioneering Paranoid Android The Tourist Kid A: National Anthem Idioteque Amnesiac: Pyramid Song Hail To The Thief: 2+2=5 Wolf At The Door as for what they're doing at the minute - songwriting and enjoying life I suppose, I wouldn't expect another album until 2006 at the earliest but reckon 07/08 is more realistic.

Maybe I was going to the wrong sites looking for the lyrics that one time. http://www.ateaseweb.com/songs/punchdrunkl...cksingalong.php It's definitely a B-Side standout. Don't listen to it when you are actually lovesick or punchdrunk though, it's awfully morose.
algrim Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Idiotique stands out as being pretty good too.
Guest Harry Hood Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Amnesiac: Pyramid Song I Might Be Wrong The Bends: The Bends Fake Plastic Trees Black Star Sulk Hail to the Thief: 2 + 2 = 5 Drunken Punch Up at a Wedding Kid A : The NAtional Anthem Everyhting In Its Right Place Optimistic OK Computer: Airbag Exit Music (For a Film) No Surprises

PLAGIARISM! Posted August 8, 2004 Report Posted August 8, 2004 Johnny Greenwood is awesome, and underrated.
