BorneAgain 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Do any of you remember the details of Tenay's heel turn in WCW around 2000 or so? I remember it happened, but not much else.
JHawk 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Moving to general wrestling since it's not within the five year rule. And no, nobody remembers the particulars. Mostly, it was Tenay being a dick to the faces, but it never actually went anyplace.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Wasn't it Mike getting attacked by Scott Steiner in the trailer what spurred him to be angry and pissed off at times?
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Sorry to prove you wrong, JHawk...but I got some news to share... ***From the July 12, 2000 Thunder*** Mike Tenay sits down with Scott Steiner (with Midajah). Steiner likes not having friends, hates Hall & Nash, and yells at Tenay for calling the "Frankensteiner" a hurancanrana. Tenay says he uses that term to get the Mexican stars over. Steiner threatens Tenay. Tenay asks Steiner about his childhood leading to his recent "angry" streak. Steiner snaps and starts choking Tenay. Steiner gets up and commands Midajah to stop tending to Tenay and the segment is over. ***From the July 19, 2000 Thunder*** Bobby Heenan makes fun of Tenay, as Tenay says he "saw his life flash before him" last week. Tenay acts like a HEEL in a promo with Midajah on... *** The August 23rd edition of Thunder*** Midajah lays in bed with a neckbrace on. She wants to wrestle, not take her clothes off for Playboy. Tenay says "C'mon! I've heard this all before. Right...I am woman. Hear me roar." Midajah mentions how when Steiner attacked Tenay, it was SHE that came to help him. Tenay says she probably only did it to stop him from getting fined more. She says the interview is over...Tenay says "Good luck...you'll need it." She calls Tenay a jerk. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Heel interview segment #2 is from... ***September 6, 2000 edition of Thunder*** Tenay interviews David Flair & Miss Hancock about their upcoming wedding. Both of their families will be on Nitro for the wedding on Monday. Tenay yells at Hancock and calls her a golddigger because she went through David's pant pockets to find her engagement ring. tenay takes a snotty attitude with Hancock's defensive statements. Tenay finishes the segment by "giving you six months...if you're lucky". And then...Tenay goes heel on RIC FLAIR of all people... ***September 13, 2000 edition of Thunder*** Tenay interviews Ric Flair, who Russo had removed from his son's wedding on Nitro (the wedding ended when Stacy left the arena after revealing her baby wasn't David's.) Tenay was curious why Flair was even being interviewed for TV when he was retired. Tenay says he respects Flair then instantly asked if Ric is the father of his son's fiance's baby. Flair gets an angry look and says that Tenay is one of Russo's puppets, and asks bullshit questions. Flair leaves. Here goes Tenay again... ***September 20, 2000 Thunder*** Tenay interviews Stacy Kiebler. Stacy says she loves David. Tenay laughs and says Stacy had slept around with nearly the entire roster. "Can we count them on one hand...or two?" She says there was only one other. He asks how she could sleep around when she was engaged. Tenay looks into the camera... "BOY, SHE'LL MAKE A GREAT MOTHER." Haha. On the ***October 4, 2000 Thunder*** Mike Tenay interviews Misfits in Action. He pisses General Rection off by calling him "Mike Demotta". On the October 25, edition of Thunder, Mike Tenay, doing commentary, made a bitter comment about not going on the recent Nitro/Thunder trip to Australia the week before. Guest Thrashist Report post Posted August 16, 2004 I believe that whole idea was based on the incident at the 1999 World Series between Jim Gray and Pete Rose. Could be wrong, but I think the idea was that the pesky Tenay would ask offensive questions to the wrestlers a la Gray. But of course it didn't last.
BHK 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2004 Tenay went heel? Wow, I should really get osme old WCW tapes from 99-

Looks like it all occured on Thunder which is probably why I missed it.
Chazz 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2004 A lot of Russo Haters bashed him for helping to create this character. I personally loved It. I thought Tenay actually shined In this role. He actually pulled off The Heel Interviewer/Announcer better than Coach currently does In The WWE,IMO.
Guest Paul H. Report post Posted August 17, 2004 Oh fuck yeah,i remember that i rememeber when he harrased the shit outta Stacky Keibler on Thunder. Mike to Tenay:"Now let's be real..even i wanted a peice of it".

I'm guessing the lack of heel Tenay love comes from the fact no one was watching. Shame because around that time, early 2001, WCW was, at least to me, a lot more interesting than WWE. Not better, just more interesting.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2004 I doubt Russo even suggested the Tenay interview segments. It's too...not over the top and actually interesting.

I think Steiner used the lead pipe on Mike.

BUTT 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2004 Thanks to CRZ's Slashwrestling.com, here's a transcript of the Tenay-Keibler interview: Stacey, at your request I've brought the WCW camera crew here to let you offer up an explanation for your actions. We've all seen it recently on Nitro when you left your fiancee David Flair at the altar, and then you proceeded to drop the bombshell that David was not the father of your yet to be born child. Stacey, this is your chance to talk to the world and to David. David, I just wanna say I am so sorry. The last couple days, you know, I've been sittin' around just thinking about all the good times that we've had - and it was just a mistake, and I - I just - I love you, and I hope that you wanna forgive me, and work things out-- Wait wait a minute. You love him and you're asking him for forgiveness? This is the same person that you've slept around on, obviously. And Stacey, we've seen you on WCW TV dressed in the shortest miniskirt that I've ever seen. The way that you provocatively climb into the ring and dance...hell, you even come down to the broadcast position and climb up on the broadcast table while we're trying to announce a match. You know, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm a married man and that I have some morals, I probably would have taken a shot. Stacey, we need to know who the father is. Is the father Ric Flair? You know, I asked Ric and he didn't deny it. ... Stacey, how many have there been? Can we count 'em on one hand? Two hands? What's the over/under, Stacy? It was just one! It was just one, that's all. Well, Stacey, I apologise if maybe the question got a little out of hand there. But it was just one? It was only one? Who was that one? You know, Mike, it's - it's really none of your business. Who are you trying to protect here, Stacey? What kind of an individual would impregnate an innocent twenty year old like yourself that was headed to the wedding altar with David Flair? It's not like that-- *Who's* not like that, Stacey? Stacey, I see you're starting to show a little bit. I guess you've probably taken yourself out of the WCW swimsuit competition next Monday on Nitro when we crown a Miss WCW. I guess the upside for you, though, is you're probably going to be the most popular person in your Lamaze class - even if you're there all alone. Mike, it's not my fault. I'm the victim here. You feel like you're the victim? No, there's two victims - David Flair and that unborn child. What you're feeling is guilt. (she walks off) Yeah, and - and save those tears for somebody who gives a damn. Boy, she's gonna make a terrific mother.

Guest Paul H. Report post Posted August 18, 2004 He only actually "announced" maybe once again on Thunder I think..not sure.. But yeah they need to put together a "Best Of Russo's Wcw" It was a ton of crap but it was sooo scary that every good idea they had got zex or altered it really was like someone was tryng to take that company under. At that time i remember actually convincing people that Russo was actually a "double-agent" for McMahon. My Favorite things from that era was: 1.Russo getting speared through the cage on Nitro. 2.Russo,giving a speech behind a "pope-mobile" type thing the next night. 3.Goldberg having his second streak to stay in WCW. 4."The Night the World Changed" 5.Team Canada/Lance Storm's promo when he pulled a fat chic outta the crowd and blamed a low-minimum wage and poor educaton for giving birth to her.Hacksaw heel turn. 6.3-count. 7.32-mayhem tournament.4-way ladder match for the US belt on Nitro. 8.Goldberg heel turn. 9.Saturn taking going head first on a stack a tables. His stupid gimmick....yeah that a Russo idea first.. 10.Benot's first cage-dive head BUTT..yeah it happned first in the Russo administarton.Benoit's matches with JJ. 11.Vampyro/Sting feud.Vampiro bloodbathing Sting and then Sting "walking" all the way to the next Thunder all covered in blood.Vam settng his car in fire, trying to eat his bird, setting the ring ropes on fire then trowing his ass over the thunder-tron.. 12.Slapnuts. damn alot of shit happened there....Sullivan era sorta threw me off for awhile. You know ths sad thing is i can't remember shit form the WWE from that era..
