Vanhalen Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 US television host Regis Philbin will break the world record for spending the most hours on television on Friday when he hosts his daily talk show. According to Guinness World Records, chat, news and quiz veteran Philbin, 72, has notched up 15,188 hours on TV. That is an average of almost an hour a day throughout his 46-year career. Philbin co-hosts talk show Live With Regis and Kelly and fronts Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in the US. "Now it's all a big blur," he said of his past. The previous record-holder was Hugh Downs, who spent years on The Tonight Show, The Today Show and 20/20. Nightmare Philbin began his career as a newsreader in San Diego in 1958. "When you look back, that's a lot of hours on TV," he said. He said his worst memory was from his early years, when he could not stop laughing while reading the news about a train crash in the Italian Alps that killed 117 people. "That is the nightmare that I remember," he said. Philbin has two years left to run on his contract for Live With Regis and Kelly, with co-host Kelly Ripa. Before Ripa joined in 2001, the show was Live With Regis and Kathie Lee.
Alro Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Regis is 72? He and Dick Clark must have discovered the fountain of youth or something. That or a lot of cosmetic surgery.
Lil' Bitch Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Or the art of stealing people's souls to steal their youth.
Star Ocean 3 Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Philbin is Shang Tsung? *opens door for clever Photoshopping*
ChrisMWaters Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Or the art of stealing people's souls to steal their youth. "That's your final answer...because your soul is mine!"
razazteca Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 Philbin is Shang Tsung? *opens door for clever Photoshopping* No that would be Chuck Norris.
WrestlingDeacon Posted August 20, 2004 Report Posted August 20, 2004 They fail to mention Regis' time as a lackey for Joey Bishop and a failed game shot host in the late seventies.
River City Rocker Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 They fail to mention Regis' time as a lackey for Joey Bishop and a failed game shot host in the late seventies. Not like Regis doesn't already talk about his association with Joey Bishop enough already... -Ben
MillenniumMan831 Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Bob Barker has got to be in the Top 5.
Guest Evolution Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 Bob Barker has got to be in the Top 5. Definitely. Regis probably wouldn't have broken the record so soon if he hadn't gotten the Millionaire job. The frequency of that show at its peak boosted his numbers a ton.
Guest syncer55 Posted August 21, 2004 Report Posted August 21, 2004 I didn't know Regis was that old. All that screaming keeps you young I guess.
