Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 www.iwamidsouthwrestling.com Before the show Ian announced the 1st round pairings fot the TPI, but I'm not one of those guys who goes to shows with a pen & paper so I can only remember a few of them. Hero-Quackenbush Samoa Joe-Roderick Strong CM Punk-Aries Alex Shelly-Ray Gordy ( I think). Also Boz & Bradley will defend the tag belts against the Wildcards & Tank & Iceberg,in a 3 way match. There were a couple of changes made & I'll get to that later. 1-JC Bailey over Icarus 2-Trik Davis over Ryan Boz Trik came out & challenged any of Fannin'sguys to a no-DQ match. Fannin went to the back & brought out Ryan Boz. I think it was supposed to be a thing where Boz was doing it just for some cash, as Fannin kept telling him that he'll pay him if he does this for him. Davis used powder, a plastic bag & finally a chain to win the match. Post match beatdown with Whitmer & a reluctant Danny Daniels unti Hero, Rotten & Collyer made the save. 3-Delirious & Jimmy Jacobs went to a double pin. Jacobs came out to the Fraggle Rock theme song which is kinda gay. Match was OK. They declared the titl vacant & later in the show it was announced that they will have a ladder match at the TPI & forfeit their spots in the tournement. So AJ Styles & Super Dragon will take their place. Styles will take on Jimmy Rave & Super Dragon will take on Arik Cannon. Dragon is on loan from JAPW & if he advaces to the second night IWA has to send someone who lost on Night 1 to the JAPW show on 9/18. 4-Matt Sydal over 'Spyder' Nate Webb. This was match was for the NWA Midwest X-Division title which I guess Suydal won on Friday. Match was pretty good. Sydal shined here as usual. 5- American Dragon over Chris Hero via submission in about 25 minutes. Match was very good, on par with Dragon's match last month against Cannon. Finish saw AmDrag jit a top rope cross arm breaker & followed that up with the cattle mutilation. Dragon wanted to shake Hero's hand afterwards but Hero pushed him. Cannon came down & told Hero he again lost to someone that he's already beat. He told AmDrag to get out of his ring, AmDrag went to hit him but didn't & left. Cannon took the mic so Hero wouldn't complain to the crowd. 6-Adam Pearce over Justin Kage. Before the match Pearce told Kage he was his father after he got his mom pregnant by fucking her in the ass. SHOCKING. Kage no-sold it though so I think Pearce may be lying or at least stretching the truth because you can't really get chicks pregnant that way. Right? Match was big man, little man stuff. Some people compare Kage to Sydal & although Kage is decent Sydal is a LOT better. 7- Nigel McGuiness & Chad Collyer over Whitmer & Daniels. Lots of communication problems for Whitmer & Daniels which led to Whitmer leaving Daniels to get beat. after the match Daniels said Whitmer was bring & had no charisma. No really. 8-Cannon over Homicide. The win streak continues. This match was very good. Cannon took a beating including a nasty headbutt to the face. You could here Homicides head hit Cannons face. After the match Homicide wanted to shake Cannon's hand but got water spit in his face instead, so Cide & B-Boy beat Cannon up a little bit & Cide was going to hit him with the Copkiller until Chris Hero broke it up. He said that he would take care of Cannon. Cide & B-Boy were pissed but left without finishing Cannon. Hero told Cannon he may be better than him but he wasn't a man. 9- Stone over Ian Rotten when NWA Midwest president Ed Shuman (sp?) stopped the match due to blood loss. So they will have a non sanctioned match at TPI where any thing goes. Lacey was interviewed by Dave Prazak who looks like Susan Powter (remember her) with his hair blond. I kid cause I care Dave. Don't worry it'll grow out. Lacey has a knee injury but is "milking it" so she doesn't have to defend the title. But she will defend against Mercedes Martinez at the TPI. 10- CM Punk over B-Boy with a torture rack. Yes Lex Lugars finisher won a match in IWA. It fit the story line of the match though & the match was pretty good, crowd seemed to be getting a bit tired though as it was midnight...which is why I left before the lumberjack match. Good show, worth getting the tape. Hero-American Dragon was real good & I'd like to see them do it again.

Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 I didn't see it. The guy who posted this on the IWA board left before the lumberjack match. I was gonna originally go but I just decided I didn't want to make the 6 hour drive. Plus I saved my paid day off from work so I can hopefully go to both nights of TPI. Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 The TPI shows are shaping up to be loaded as fuck, they're going out of thier way to ensure this year tops the 2002 show. Can't wait for some more detailed reports on Cannon/Cide and Hero/Dragon, though i can't see either of them being anything other than great.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 So the 2004 TPI is shaping up like this: -A two night, 24 man tournament for the IWA-MS world title, featuring: Chris Hero vs. Mike Quackenbush Samoa Joe vs. Roderick Strong CM Punk vs. Austin Aries Alex Shelley vs. Ray Gordy AJ Styles vs. Jimmy Rave Super Dragon vs. Arik Cannon Nigel McGuinness vs. Double C Hallowicked vs. Nate Webb Rainman vs. Chris Sabin Petey Williams vs. BJ Whitmer Plus Danny Daniels, Todd Sexton, and 2 other guys in the tournament in two more first round matches. (Hopefully we'll get those pairings after reading other live reports.) -Boz and Bradley vs. Tank and Iceberg vs. Wildcards for the IWA-MS tag titles -Delirious vs. Jimmy Jacobs in a ladder match for the IWA-MS LHW title -Ian Rotten vs. Steve Stone in an unsanctioned brawl that will be brutal and bloody as hell I'm sure This show is going to be AMAZING! I mean, are you kidding me? Samoa Joe vs. Roderick Strong? Talk about STIFF! People have been talking about that match for a a while. Super Dragon vs. Arik Cannon? That'll be fantastic! CM Punk vs. Austin Aries? They'll be facing each other for ROH on 9/11, so they'll be used to working together - this match should be great. And I REALLY want to see Chris Hero vs. Mike Quackenbush - I'm sure they've wrestled each other before, but their styles seem to go together well and I'm sure the match will be great. Plus Tank and Iceberg! Awesome! A ladder match and a brawl between Stone and Ian on the undercard? Terrific! Oh, and Lacey vs. Mercedes Martinez too...damn this show is going to be good. Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 The official write-up for the show, with the full TPI first round matches included: IWA Mid-South Wrestling, in association with NWA Midwest, returned to the Lincoln Center on Saturday night, August 21st for "An IWA Fairytale: The Hero vs. The Dragon." Here's what went down... Promoter IAN ROTTEN opened the show by announcing the first round pairings for the 24-man 2004 Ted Petty Invitational single elimination technical wrestling tournament, to take place on September 17th & 18th at the Lincoln Center. Chris Hero vs. "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush Jimmy Jacobs vs. Jimmy Rave "Spyder" Nate Webb vs. Hallowicked Nigel McGuinness vs. Double C BJ Whitmer vs. Petey Williams Chris Sabin vs. "Soul Assassin" Rainman Ray Gordy vs. Alex Shelley "Anarchist" Arik Cannon vs. Delirious Todd Sexton vs. Danny Daniels Roderick Strong vs. Samoa Joe Salvatore Rinauro vs. Matt Sydal Austin Aries vs. CM Punk Additionally, Rotten announced that Brad Bradley & Ryan Boz would defend the IWA World Tag Team Titles in a three-way tag match during TPI weekend, against "The Wildcards" (Eddie Kingston & Black Jack Marciano) and the gigantic NWA Wildside duo of Tank and Iceberg. 1. JC BAILEY def. ICARUS (from Chikara Wrestle Factory in Pennsylvania) with the Bardstown Bam top rope legdrop in the opening contest. 2. TRIK DAVIS def. RYAN BOZ (w/ Jim Fannin) in an No Disqualification bout after a low blow followed by a roll up. Davis called Fannin out to the ring, issuing a challenge to any of his men for a No DQ match, and Boz accepted. Davis tried use of powder to the eyes, as well as trying to suffocate Boz with a plastic bag, before resorting to a low blow to score the three count. After the fall, BJ Whitmer and Danny Daniels hit the ring to join Boz and Fannin in issuing a post-match beating. Daniels soon retreated back to the locker room, wanting nothing to do with Fannin's orders. 3. JIMMY JACOBS wrestled DELIRIOUS to a double pin in their bout for Jacobs' IWA Light Heavyweight Title with a roll up and bridge which saw both wrestlers' shoulders counted down. Referee BRYCE REMSBURG was struck with an inadvertent missile dropkick from Jacobs, and was out of commission as Jacobs hit the Contra Code on Delirious, only for no referee to be there to count. TOMMY THOMPSON soon hit the ring to officiate the remainder of the match, and counted the double pin. A revived Remsburg stated moments later that he, as the official assigned to the match, agreed to go with Thompson's call in his place. The title was immediately declared vacant until a decision could be reached by IWA management in the locker room concerning the situation. 4. MATT SYDAL def. "Spyder" NATE WEBB to retain the NWA Midwest X Division Title after Webb was thrown off the top rope into an unintentional backflip, landed chest first on the canvas, and Sydal followed up with a shooting star press. DAVE PRAZAK then called Jacobs and Delirious back out to the ring and announced that the two wrestlers came to an agreement with IWA management moments earlier in the back, to where both men elected to withdraw from first round competition in the TPI tournament on 9/17 in favor of battling over the IWA Light Heavyweight Title, suspended from the Lincoln Center ceiling in a Ladder Match. Prazak stated that promoter IAN ROTTEN was going to make some phone calls and keep the fans posted as to who might take Jacobs' and Delirious' spots in the first round of the tournament. 5. "American Dragon" BRYAN DANIELSON def. CHRIS HERO via submission after divorce courting the arm of Hero off the top rope, followed by the Cattle Mutilation. Danielson picked Hero's arm as his target for the duration of the bout. After the match, "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON approached the ring and told Dragon to leave him and Hero alone. Cannon reminded Hero that he defeated Danielson on 7/31 in Highland, and now Hero couldn't do the same. Cannon left the ring with the mic, refusing to give it to Hero "so the fans wouldn't have to listen to him whine again about losing." 6. "Scrap Iron" ADAM PEARCE (w/ "The Hustler" Carmine DeSpirito) def. JUSTIN KAGE with a jumping piledriver. DeSpirito unveiled longtime ally Pearce as Kage's mystery opponent in Kage's initial IWA Mid-South appearance, and Pearce had some choice words for Kage as well as the fans of Highland on the mic before the match began. True to form, Pearce used his old school wrestling style, as well as a handful of tights, to gain the victory. IAN ROTTEN welcomed fans back from intermission by announcing that he had arranged by telephone for the replacements to fill the voids left by Jacobs and Delirious pulling out of TPI. He announced that "The Phenomenal" AJ STYLES will take Jacobs' first round position against Jimmy Rave, while SUPER DRAGON would take the place of Delirious in the first round against Arik Cannon. Rotten explained to the crowd that he had cut a deal with Jersey All-Pro Wrestling (which has Super Dragon booked on their 9/18 event), that in the event Super Dragon advances to the second round, IWA will provide Jersey All-Pro Wrestling with his replacement, out of the 12 men eliminated in the first round on 9/17. 7. NIGEL McGUINNESS & CHAD COLLYER def. BJ WHITMER & DANNY DANIELS in tag team action after Whitmer abandoned Daniels during the closing moments of the match, due to the growing tension between the two men. Not only did Whitmer deny Daniels a tag, but struck his now former partner in the head, leading to the victory for the McGuinness/Collyer duo. 8. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNON def. "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE (w/ B-Boy) with a cradle for a quick pinfall victory in a very hard hitting bout. Homicide delivered numerous vicious headbutts during the match, but despite Homicide's brutal repertoire, Cannon's craftiness made the difference when it came down to the pinfall. After the match, after being denied a handshake by Cannon, Homicide went to give Cannon the Cop Killa, only to be saved from it by CHRIS HERO hitting the ring and talking Homicide into returning to the locker room. Hero reminded Cannon that he was the one responsible for plucking Cannon out of Minnesota wrestling obscurity and bringing him to IWA Mid-South, and that he needs to be more of a man about things if he wants to realize his potential. DAVE PRAZAK then brought out reigning NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Champion LACEY for an in-ring interview. Lacey explained to the fans her injury (a torn MCL and dislocated kneecap) which has sidelined her from competition since early July. Prazak reminded her the IWA and NWA Midwest officials have been lenient with the 30 day title defense rule due to her showing in the title tournament. When Lacey speculated that she may need "another four or five months" of recovery time, Prazak informed her that she has roughly one month to prepare, because she will have to defend the title at the TPI weekend against one of her opponents in the finals of the tournament, MERCEDES MARTINEZ. 9. "Metalhead" STEVE STONE def. IAN ROTTEN when NWA Midwest promoter ED CHUMAN approached ringside and called for referee MICKIE KNUCKLES to end the match due to Ian's blood loss and inability to continue. As a result of the decision, Stone earns his spot back on the IWA Mid-South roster. After the match, Rotten went on a verbal tirade at Chuman, stating that IWA Mid-South is his company, and he knows what's in his own best interests. Rotten then declared that he and Stone would battle at TPI weekend in a match that the NWA will have no jurisdiction over, a non-sanctioned Falls Count Anywhere/Anything Goes match held under traditional IWA rules. 10. CM PUNK def. "The New Age Punisher" B-BOY (w/ Homicide) via submission with the human torture rack. Punk relentlessly focused on B-Boy's back for the duration of the match, softening him up for the finishing hold. Neither B-Boy nor Punk were able to connect with a shining wizard on their opponent during the match, which was a blend of submission wrestling and strikes. 12. MAD MAN PONDO def. "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN in a Fan Lumberjack Strap Match, following a senton off the ropes onto Klein, trapped under a fort constructed with multiple chairs. Sixteen fans were chosen at random from the ticket stubs to be at ringside armed with leather straps. Besides the fans with the straps, the men also utilized a staple gun and Pondo's stop sign during the match. The event was filmed with two cameras by Smart Mark Video for home video release, with commentary by Dave Prazak, CM Punk, Nate Webb, and Carmine DeSpirito. Guest DeathBecomesYou Report post Posted August 22, 2004 Looks like a great show, as does the TPI, my only problem is with the TPI brackets, why book Punk vs Aries? It just doesn't make sense, either Punk, one of the biggest drawcards in the tournment goes out in round one, or Aries, who's arguably one of the best workers in the tournament goes out in round one. It's just doesn't make sense IMO.

Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2004 TPI will be fucking incredible...that's all I can say. Tank and Iceberg working the Wildcards and Bradley & Boz? I'm diggin' it. Mercedes Martinez's return? I'm there. SALVATORE FUCKIN' RINAURO? My ticket's bought, maaaan. Hero/Dragon...Jesus H. Christ, it was tremendous. Everything you could possibly imagine this match being, it was. Too good for words. I want a Best of 1,000,003 Series NOW. Dragon also had the most badass medieval entrance gear ever, which he so needs to sell at shows. That, and the "I MUST Break You" shirt he wore at ROH a few months back. I personally thought Punk/B-Boy was really disappointing, but that might be more due to my disliking of Punk the past few months than anything else. I sure hope that Punk/Aries in TPI is good. Adam motherfuckin' Pearce in IWA Mid-South...thank you Ian, DP, Jesus, Allah, and everyone else who made this possible. I literally jumped out of my seat when "Freebird" started up. Then, he beat the living crap out of poor Justin Kage, who looked like Jamie Noble's younger brother in his blue tights. If it weren't for John Calvin (Ian's young son) accidentally spitting on the jackasses behind us who were yelling out absolutely retarded shit like "Ian, why ya bleedin'? It ain't part of the storyline!" all fucking night, this would be my markout moment of the night. There's more hardcore Internet marks than I thought usually come to IWA shows there last night, as the place ERUPTED when Ian announced that Super Dragon was coming in for TPI. If you like your flippy shit flippy, then you'll love Sydal/Webb. The flippiness started before the match even started, as they had dueling flip contests during the "OOOOOH YEEEAAAAH!" parts of "Teenage Dirtbag". Nate also busted out the sequel to Soylent Green; Soylent Green 2: It's STILL People, during the dueling Soylent Green sequences. Ian/Stone was such an awesome brawl, with a finish that came off kind of weird at first, but totally made sense in the scheme of things, as people really truly hate the NWA, and playing off of that hatred is great booking. The falls count anywhere match next month should be great. I'm leaving out so much, but my brain's fried. Some more stuff will probably come back to me later, but this is it until then... By the way, Adam Pearce fucked all your mommas in their assholes, and made you guys as babies, baby!

Phoenix Fury Legdrop 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2004 I'd go at least ***3/4-****. I personally bought into the whole atmosphere and let myself be a mark instead of sitting there and anal-izing stuff like some people do, since Dragon usually seems like one of those types that almost begs for anal-ization (yes, the pun is intended) and I thought it'd be nice to just sit there and soak it all in. Like Joe/Hero, I got an "IWA vs. ROH" vibe from the crowd, but Dragon had the crowd advantage since it almost seems like he's more respected by everyone as just a good wrestler rather than a good wrestler from ROH, and therefore some of the Hero fans cheered for both.
