Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 28, 2004 The Yankees are going to have to look at their team, and pitching might be a bigger necessity. Might be, but Centerfield is also probably one of the most important positions on the field, and as much as I love Bernie, he's on his last legs. The Yankees also have the luxary that they can do both. Who's this other favorite you speak of? Yankees have eyes on Clement. (Along with Pavano and Odalis Perez)
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I can't help but think the Cubs will try to resign Nomar. I dunno, maybe it's not financially viable, but it seems like a waste to bring the guy in from Boston and have him for half a season, then let him go. What does Beltran's contract with the Astros look like? The Yankees might be the better idea for the Stros if they want to trade him somewhere, since they wouldn't trade him to a division rival. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 For a team to trade a player at this point, he must first clear waivers. Beltran would certainly not clear waivers, and I believe he was blocked already. So he's not going anywhere. He's a free agent after this season. This offseason will be interesting, because there's alot of potential bargains out there. Magglio Ordonez will come cheap because of the injury. Richie Sexson is available. Carlos Delgado's coming off a bad year. Kevin Millwood is out there as well.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Who's this other favorite you speak of? Yankees have eyes on Clement. (Along with Pavano and Odalis Perez) I don't want you to have Clement. Neither can Boston. Who would you give us? Esteban Loaiza? Tanyon Sturtze? Get outta town. (Not you Matt.) (Not you Matt the guy that posts as Anglesault, Matt the goateed pitcher) EDIT: On Farnsworth, I've realized the only way to get use out of him now is to have him enter the game with the theme song to the PBS show "3-2-1 Contact," since either by beaning or homering, there's a whole lot of it goin' on. Bored 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Clement is a free agent this offseason so Yankees won't have to trade anyone for him. In other news Jose Mesa is looking to do his own Operation Shutdown: Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Jose Mesa told MLB.com on Friday he definitely will not be traded to the San Francisco Giants, for whom he pitched in 1998. "I don't mind and I don't care because I am not going to the Giants," he said. "I already made up my mind a long time ago. I'm not going nowhere. If they trade me, whatever team picks me up is in trouble because I'll go home." I would think any team would be in trouble picking up Mesa regardless if he plays for them or not. Even so, Matt is very close with Wood and Prior and really wants to stay, lack of run support be damned. And you think he's gonna be a Yankee? He won't get to have the chin-beard of doom! Take that away and it's not even worth it.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I know this probably means nothing to non yankee fans, but Thirdbase coach Luis Sojo's nephew passed away yesterday after he and his father were in a bad car wreck. This has been a brutal couple of years for Luis, as his father, mother and now his nephew have all died since 1999.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I really like Luis Sojo. He just looks like he's having so much fun whenever he plays the game
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Oh and how about Chipper Jones? John Smoltz was right that he'd be the team MVP for the second half. The guy has his average up to .255 and is close to 30 HRs
Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 With work and all, I'm trying my best to pay as much attention to the Braves until we roll in mid-September. By then, I will be intently watching each and every game. I'd like to say that the team has a great chance of making the World Series, but they just have to focus on improving their weaknesses (middle relief) before the NLDS. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I just think it's funny that every season it seems like the Yanks make some big signings and yet, when the season's done with, they still need to go out and make more big signings. Apparently adding Sheffield and Alex Rodriguez is not enough to get the job done. Better go out and get Beltran and Clement, too. Eventually they'll out and get Scott Rolen to be the backup third baseman.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Man, the Giants are FUCKED if Schmidt's really hurt. He only went 3 2/3 innings today, giving up SIX runs. I didn't get to see the game, but looking at MLB Gameday, it seemed he was really off. The fourth inning should've been his easiest, with the lower third of the order coming up. He didn't record an out until striking out J.D. Drew. Plus he gave up a pair of run-scoring hits to the PITCHER. May have just been an off day for Schmidt, but if his injury is more serious than we think, this team is done.
the max 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 I already think the Giants are done, as Bonds and Schmidt can only carry them so far. As supposedly bad as the Cubs are, they still have a multitude of weapons to use in their lineup. The Giants will fade.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Wow, it's only the second and things looked just about wrapped up at Wrigley. Some god awful defense allowed THREE runs to score on the same play. With the wind blowing in, Clemens on the mound and Nomar not in the lineup, the Cubs may have to shoot for a series split tomorrow. At least Farns was put on the DL today. treble 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2004 Yankees are destroying the Jays right now, so we get to see the exciting position player pitching situation. Frank Menechino gets the honours (?). Oh, and Gary Sheffield just hurt his leg at 3rd base, which I guess isn't a safe place for Yankee players at SkyDome anymore.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 He looked like he was fine, he left on his feet. Clark 3 homers, A-Rod with an A-Bomb, Sheff cooked up a homer, Sierra went Grand Salami, good times.
Dogbert 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 I believe I speak for all of us Jays fans when I say that Kerry Ligtenberg should be dropped from an airplane cruising at 30 000 feet. the max 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Red Sox win again, 5-1. It was a close game until the last of the 7th, when they touched Jamie Walker for a few hits and three runs to put the game out of reach. I wasn't very confident with Ramiro Mendoza coming in, even with the four run lead, but he still got it done. Bill Mueller was on base four times, and Manny was up and around on his leg, being his normal, odd self. I hope to see him back tomorrow.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2004 Is it wrong that I found myself disappointed when Polanco hit a walk off homer, knowing that it would result in there being zero chance of Utley getting the starting job for the rest of the year now? Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 29, 2004 One of the girls I was out with (there was a small group) was kind enough to inform me that Ruben hit the slam in the ninth, making it whatever-teen to 6, but other than that, we ate outside, so you had to go inside to see TV. I'm watching the replay now.
