GOP Mailing Warns Liberals Will Ban Bibles

Mailing With Return Address of GOP National Committee Warns of Bible Ban if Liberals Elected

WASHINGTON Sept. 17, 2004 — Campaign mail with a return address of the Republican National Committee warns West Virginia voters that the Bible will be prohibited and men will marry men if liberals win in November.

The literature shows a Bible with the word "BANNED" across it and a photo of a man, on his knees, placing a ring on the hand of another man with the word "ALLOWED." The mailing tells West Virginians to "vote Republican to protect our families" and defeat the "liberal agenda."

 

Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie said Friday that he wasn't aware of the mailing, but said it could be the work of the RNC. "It wouldn't surprise me if we were mailing voters on the issue of same-sex marriage," Gillespie said.

 

The flier says Republicans have passed laws protecting life, support defining marriage as between a man and a woman and will nominate conservative judges who will "interpret the law and not legislate from the bench."

 

"The liberal agenda includes removing `under God' from the Pledge of Allegiance," it says.

 

It does not mention the names of the presidential candidates.

 

Jim Jordan, a spokesman for American Coming Together, described the mailing as "standard-issue Republican hate-mongering."

 

Gillespie said same-sex marriage is a legitimate issue in the election. President Bush has proposed amending the Constitution to ban gay marriage. Democratic Sen. John Kerry also opposes gay marriage but said a constitutional amendment is going too far.

 

The RNC also is running radio ads in several states urging people to register to vote.

 

"There is a line drawn in America today," one ad says. "On one side are the radicals trying to uproot our traditional values and our culture. They're fighting to hijack the institution of marriage, plotting to legalize partial birth abortion, and working to take God out of the pledge of allegiance and force the worst of Hollywood on the rest of America."

 

"Are you on their side of the line?" the ad asks before making the plea to "support conservative Republican candidates."

Obviously there's nothing wrong with this at all, and that the Conservatives are just trying to....damn, I can't totally dodge the question at hand and jump at assumptions regarding another issue like some other people here seem to be able to.

 

That said, I would have a hard time believing this to be true. It probably is, but it's just so....stupid, it can't be. Can it?

 

Almost forgot, what about all of those Christians planning to vote Democrat? They're really at a Crossroads now...

Anyway, since the plan is now out in the open, I can reveal what I plan to replace the Bible with as the new holy book of Christianity:

Even if something so outlandish were true, it wouldn't matter. Christians have a propensity for continuing operations in the tightest of conditions. We'd still have Bibles and we'd still be around.

My one point to make? Most liberals want to make gay marriage a states' rights issue, and let each state decide separately how to figure it out.

 

Now, look at where these pamphlets were mailed out: West Virginia.

 

WEST FUCKING VIRGINIA.

 

Have any of you ever been to West Virginia?

 

Suffice to say, I don't see a gay marriage act being passed in that state anytime soon.

I like the touch about the illustrations and "Banned" or "Allowed", as if they were trying to explain a difficult concept to a little kid.

I live in Texas, but in a city that is solidly Democratic. So, we get BUTT-fucked by Austin on just about everything. It took us ten years to get a medical college expansion, while other cities get them every day.

 

If you ever happen to meet Silvestre Reyes, thank him. He was the only Democrat to vote against NAFTA.

The Bible bannings is the GOP's counter to the "Republicans will bring back Jim Crow" Democrat rhetoric. So what's the big deal?

Nope, wasn't me.

 

I've just gotten incredibly bored with this place. Every day it's the same shit, over, and over, and over, and over, and over again.

 

Plus, I've become abnormally frustrated while reading posts that I don't agree with... a problem I did not have a year ago. I find that it's unhealthy, and I've grown to hate (literally) many of those here that I don't agree with.

 

When I realized that, I decided I should just stop all together because really, it's not worth it.

 

I've actually started to take the time to work out again, and read books. I feel like I'm actually getting worthwile things accomplished instead of sitting on my ass for a few hours a day, reading posts that begin to repeat themselves.

 

So no, I don't plan on posting here any time soon. I'll check in from time to time but I've had it. You conservative fucks have won on that level

I find it hilarious the Republicans would try to run on issue they agree with most of the Democrats on. Most Democrats oppose gay marriage and want to keep the "under God".
