1234-5678 Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Surpassing the Doors isn't that hard. I loathe idiocy. But then again, it's because of people like you that radio and the Billboard charts suck such a dick these days. "Lean Back" won't exist in three weeks. The Doors have perservered for over 35 years. I think we've had this discussion several times before, and the argument that usually pops up is "The Velvet Underground did everything the Doors were doing better." And I agree with that. The Doors are okay but will never be in my pantheon. "Lean Back" is pretty weak, though. Velvet Underground were a psychedelic band. Doors did psychedelic music (The End), pop (Helllo I Love You), the blues (Roadhouse Blues), jazz (Light My Fire), and some hard rock (Five To One), and did em all very well. They weren't one dimensional like the Underground.

I find I don't care that people haven't heard of this or that band; what steams my beans are the ones who act the authority on a particular artist/style/etc. when they're just talking a bunch of shit.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I seem to remember godthedog bringing up just how very non-one dimensional the Velvets were the last time jaxl was spouting off like an idiot on this matter, so someone find that thread.
snuffbox Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 VU is possibly the least one-dimensional band ever.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 21, 2004 Report Posted September 21, 2004 I like LA Woman more than VU and Nico.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 I've probably heard the song "Lean Back" or whatever at least 40 times in the last two weeks thanks to work. *shudder* You poor, poor man. I too have had experiences with people thinking "Led Zeppelin" was the name of the singer.......... Bold Statement: That song is better than anything The Doors have ever recorded. Surpassing the Doors isn't that hard. I loathe idiocy. But then again, it's because of people like you that radio and the Billboard charts suck such a dick these days. This sums up my entire life, basically. Guy, that's the only reason why I brought it up.
Henry Spencer Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 The Velvet Underground are not even remotely close to being a psychedelic band.
Dr. Zoidberg Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 OK, i have a funny story. this one lame kid down in AZ once asked me, while i was listening to Rolling Stones "Satisfaction"....This is true, mind you...he asked: "Wait...this sounds familiar...is this a cover of that Britney Spears song?" You can't make that shit up, people.
Slayer Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 That reminds me of when I was a teen and there was that RnB cover of "Baby I Love Your Way", I thought it was a cover of the electrono-pop song from the mid-80's, unaware that both were covering the Peter Frampton tune. Hell, I'd never even heard of Frampton until that episode of the Simpsons, and contrary the old joke, my parents did not have a copy of Frampton Comes Alive either.
Guest Fook Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 *Listening to Kashmir* Stupid kid: Yo! That's P. Diddy ain't it dude? *Walks away*
