TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Man this just hit me hard, I can't believe it. Possibly the only guy to main event against the two biggest draws ever in their primes(89 vs Hogan, 98 vs Austin) and he sure as hell put on a show every time he was out there. One of my favorite memories of him is his short itme in the 92 Rumble. He wasn't in there long but he sure as hell livened up the place when he came out. Maybe he can finally finish that feud with Mr. Perfect now...he could still have Andre in his corner and Perfect can have Rude. What I wouldn't give to see that match now. The Niggardly King 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Am I the only one who ever wanted to see him as the WWF Champion around the early 90's? Of course I was only 4 or 5, but he's always remained a favorite.

Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 I have never actually seen that Rumble...how did the Hogan elimination come about? Bossman (and Akeem?) eliminated Hogan at the '89 Rumble, stunning the crowd who had expected Hogan to win. The Towers and Mega-Powers feud that began in the fall of 1988, spawned the angle that led me to initially follow professional wrestling. Of course, I'm talking about the infamous tag match on the February SNME show, as well as the cage match blowoff he had with Hogan in the May SNME, which led Hogan into his new feud with Tiny "Zeus" Lister. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Earliest I'd expect is HEAT or RAW. Smackdown is just too early for them to do anything I think. Now RAW, there will be no excuse if they don't honor him. I think they will, Bossman was quite the figure in the WWF.

St. Gabe 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 He was always one of my favorites, and this has hit me extra hard tonight. I believe that Bossman was one of the most underutilized guys ever. He always ALWAYS had heat, baby or heel and was never truly rewarded. Well, my thoughts go to his family and hopefully we will see a tribute Thursday or Monday night. RIP Ray

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Ray Traylor as far as I know, still goes down as one of the fastest wrestlers pinned on WWE PPV. When the Rock pinned him in 3 seconds with an inside cradle. The same night Vince mocked the Hart incident and the Rock turned heel with a sharpshooter on Mankind. Plus the Bossman made Al Snow eat his dog...whatever the heck that dog's name was. He had a way of making the stupidest angle fun for at least a few weeks. He always tried even with strapped with crap.

Guest Fook Report post Posted September 23, 2004 I loved when he came back in late 2001/early 2002 and he was wearing the suit in the ring. And then, after he beat up his opponent, he'd fix his tie and walk off. Pure class.
Just call me Dan 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 RIP RAy. Truly a sad loss in a growing list of tragedies in our beloved sport. You won't be forgotten. I REALLY had high hopes for a hard push when he came back w/ McMahon against Austin. Funniest moment to me was the Booker T/Bossman Alliance against SCSA on Smackdown where a beatdown ensued and Bossman continually tapped Austin in the head with the foam part of the mic for what seemed like hours. No one bought it, but both men played their roles as best they could. Classic.
fairtoflair7 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 I'm just really sad right now. He was one of my childhood favorites. I remember at a house show against Mr. Perfect, he told Perfect to get back into the ring or he will stick his nightstick down his throat RIP Big Bossman Ray Traylor You will be missed! Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 This sucks ass. Bossman provided one of the most hilarious screwups in the history of the federation during his "elimination" at Royal Rumble 92 which ended up being a noose. Thanks for the memories, Ray. Guest news_gimmick Report post Posted September 23, 2004 His original WWF theme "Hard Times" still takes me back to the old days when the crowd would pop big time for him. Like someone mentioned I always expected to have him around for years, just making an occasional appearance or something. Sadness all around.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 I saw him first at the NWA Jim Crocket Cup tournament in 1987 when he was in a texas deathmatch cage match vs Ole Anderson. Always been somewhat of a fan of him through his Big bossman days. God speed Bossman.

And I have a feeling Eugene will use the Bossman Slam pretty soon.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted September 23, 2004 Now the question is will they do the 10 bells for Bossman on Smackdown before their prerecorded stuff or wait till Raw to do a Tribute?
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted September 23, 2004 I never really liked him...especially in 2000. But I'll admit to enjoying his 1998 run a fair bit. he was definately a staple in ym childhood wrestling watching, and when any of them dies, it sucks. And makes me feel old. Guest Fook Report post Posted September 23, 2004 They'll probably wait until Raw to do a tribute. That way they actually have time to put together a video package rather than just flash an image on the screen at the start of the show.
Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted September 23, 2004 42 is just ridiculous, even for a good-sized guy. What's with the wrestling biz that so many people are passing away at such young ages? You look at the WWF roster from the late eighties to early nineties and it seems like half of them are dead already. It's so sad. I'll always remember how quick Bossman seemed when he first started in the WWF, how he could slide out of the ring under the bottom rope. He could really move around in there and had some fun matches with Hogan, feuding with him off and on during his first WWF run and that superplex he took off the top of the cage on SNME was a "Holy Shit!" moment back before they existed. I also loved the way he started his first feud with Hogan, handcuffing the stupid bastard to a ringside barrier and beating him all over the Brother Love show with his nightstick. Classic heel stuff. The Twin Towers were hilarious, coming out with Slick to Jive Soul Bro', and Akeem in his blue bodysuit with Africa on the back, and the Bossman trying to look the tough prison guard standing in the midst of all that nonsense. Such a funny visual. I also remember his first face turn, one that actually kind of made sense, as he refused to take money from the Million Dollar Man to retrieve the Million Dollar belt from Jake Roberts' snake bag. "You didn't say nothing about a payoff!" he accused Slick, showing that despite his propensity for prison brutality, he was still a man of the law. And I think his promo from his first appearance on SNME went something like this: Slick: "...but it's all legal, because the Big Bossman will read you your rights." Bossman: "You have the right to suffer, you have the right to feel pain, if you wish to have an attorney present--I'll hurt him too!" Poor Ray, too young.
