Dames Learned to Drive & Was Licensed in 15 Days!

I finally got my drivers license!!!!

 

I wanted to learn how to drive for YEARS, but I never had the money for lessons and no one I knew was willing to teach me. They don't teach drivers ed in the Bronx, at least not at my high school, and you have to be 18 to get your license in the city. From there, buses and trains take you everywhere you really need to go.

 

One of the main reasons why I moved to CT was to force myself to do this and I've been here for 7 months now after leaving my mom, my family, my and my home behind for uncertain waters. I got my own place after 3 months, but for some damn reason, there's no driving schools in Bristol and I couldn't find one that was willing to pick me up at my place for about 2 months. Finally, I found a place, but then I needed to get the money for it. Unexpected bills happen when you live alone, you know.

 

Anyway, I signed up with a school and along with a school, some friends of mine helped me learn and get comfortable behind the wheel by teaching me in a old Bronco with no ABS or power steering. And the actual lessons were with a 2004 Nissan with power everything. Throw in a couple unexpected highway lessons from some of my other friends and I was able to get my drivers license in 15 days of learning! That's crazy, ain't it??

 

Not only that, but I've already got a car! It's a 1990 Chrysler LeBaron and I'm going to register it, insure it, in my name and be riding around by the weekend!

No shit. When we were down there this summer, we couldn't believe they gave licenses to some of the drivers we encountered. Going too slow, pulling out in front of us, changing lanes unexpectedly. I don't know how you put up w/ it.

And why is it that on the East Coast people love to fuckin honk their horn?! I hate that. In California you RARELY hear that unless it's absolutely necessary or someone is trying to get someone's attention.

They're cutting you off and honking because you drive too fucking slow and get in everyone's way.

Nah, I drive pretty fast. And the cutting off and honking isn't combined. If you so much as hesistate half a second when the light turns green, HOOOOONK. If you're stuck in traffic and the guy in front of you has moved a couple feet, HOOOONK. If I pass someone for going too slow, HOOOOONK.

 

And often times you'll be driving on the expressway when traffic is coming up and you have these frantic assholes constantly changing lanes to try to get somewhere faster, when they're really not saving any kind of time and just putting everyone at risk. I had another time where I was in the intersection about to make a left, and the guy in the lane to the right of me (which wasn't a left-turn lane at all) cut me off right as the light turned yellow, and flipped ME off.

 

People in this city have no fucking clue.

Whenever someone honks at me I honk back at least three times a long. Don't know why, just figure it would piss them off even more and then I can laugh...

Congrats, Dames. I passed my drivers test basically blind in one eye, because my contact fell out while waiting for the examiner to enter the car. I didn't let on, and somehow I passed.
