Actually ESPN 'struck back' and it will be coming out earlier now as an answer to Lives coming out a week (I think) earlier, so EsPN will be out first I believe, in like a few days. (vvvv)

Due to live now having a September release, now so will ESPN. September 29

But for me defintely ESPN.

ESPN 2k4>>>>>>NBA Live 2004

IMO, even though, while the 24/7 thing is a pretty good idea...the fact that it's 24/7, sort of pisses me off because you don't really feel like doing it every day or so. but just looking at some of the screens for ESPN it's not even funny how great it looks, and the Franchise looks to have 'an EWR type dealie' where you have players complaining about something you've done, or applauding you or something.

ESPN, definitely. Though for some reason I've never felt basketball translate as well to video games as football games do.

From Gamespot:

When Sega and Take-Two first announced ESPN NFL 2K5 would sell for just $19.99, Electronic Arts scoffed at the idea. "Sounds like they're throwing in the towel," Jeff Brown, Electronic Arts' vice president of corporate communications, told the San Jose Mercury News following ESPN's announcement. "They're signaling to consumers, retailers, and the NFL that they are no longer selling a premium product." Similar noises were made when ESPN NBA 2K5 and ESPN NHL 2K5 were also discounted to $19.99.

Two months later, Electronic Arts is singing a different tune. Speaking today to an assembly of analysts and traders at the BancAmerica Securities 34th Annual Investment Conference in San Francisco, EA CFO Warren Jenson announced a two-pronged attack to counter ESPN's pricing strategy.

First, Jensen revealed that NBA Live 2005's sticker price would be cut by $10 to just $39.99, a $10 drop from EA Sports' games standard $49.99 price point. Secondly, Jenson announced that EA is launching an across-the-board, buy-two-get-one-free promotion for any EA Sports title.

[uPDATE] Subsequent information provided by EA to GameSpot outlined the deal. "Consumers who buy two new EA Sports titles between September 27 and November 14 can get a coupon online for a third free game," said a representative for the company, who said details would be forthcoming on the official EA Web site. The EA rep confirmed the online coupon would be good for any and every EA sports title. "The promotion aligns with the holiday and the launch of a lot of our most popular franchises," said the rep. "It also shows our competitors that we're playing to win in every category."

Despite the discount announcements, EA's CFO was eager to point out that EA Sports titles are selling very well at full price. "Through Sept 18, 2.4 million units of Madden sold worldwide," said Jenson, "and the $60 [PlayStation 2] Collector's Edition is virtually sold out." He also emphasized the enduring strength of all the EA Sports franchises, which are best sellers year after year.

Aw man, I don't know WHICH to get. Last year, 2004 owned ESPN in every way with gameplay (with sliders fixes) -- ESPN took multiple, multiple steps off of it's gameplay. I'll probably buy ESPN for the Xbox and DL Live for the PC if my PC can handle it.

I thought ESPN 2k4 was awesome. Only bad thing was 24/7 was WAY too extentsive to beat. I got about 3/4 of it done, and I've never gone back to finish it so I've probably lost all my stats by now. I still play it for Franchise mode, though. 2k5 is probably gunna be a must...and those grahpics look so cool.

ESPN. I like realism, not scoring 200 points via dunks.

You must have gotten your games confused last year, then, because that's EXACTLY what ESPN was.

Which one am I buying? Neither. The league is now filled with more uncertains and less known contenders and that brings less interest. I don't think having undersized with back problems (Emeka Okafor) as your top draft pick will draw mainstream interest to the NBA. I might rent the game with the higher user score on ign.com if it is above 9.0. I'm wondering has EA ever got its graphics for a NBA or NFL game as pretty as the 2K series?

You are going to rent a 15 dollar game(at best buy) for 6-7 bucks?

Now, Ripper ain't never been no math major(or english major for that matter) but that just don't make any sense.

ESPN NBA 2K5?

If it is, awesome. 20 bucks pretty much told me which one to buy, although i've been with with ESPN since the dreamcast days, but that's good.

One question though. Last year's game was horrible in the aspect of players playing like themselves. Do players have shooting signatures or do they have any sort of personality in the gameplay? Like does Shaq play like Shaq, and does KG play like KG?

Well I WAS looking forward to getting this game fr a very long time. I was hoping they would implement the sportscenter and have weekly highlights like ESPN Football does, DENIED. Also noticed the fact that they made multiplayer franchises impossible...WHY?!?!?!?!

Playing this game vs. the computer is boring, a friend and I love doing our franchises together using different teams. Guess I have to stick with 2K4 :(

Well I dunno. There's more to a game than multi-player franchises. It probably had something to do with the Association and player personalities, and whatnot.

It does make sense, I don't want the game, I just want to test it out and it is cheaper to do so too. What a thinker you are.

No. It's a stupid waste of money. I can see the point if both games were regular price, but there's no logic when one is only $10-15 more. There is no reason to be spending that much on a rental, just to test out a game which comes so cheap. Get over whatever you have against the NBA and goddamn Emeka Okafor and buy the game.

I said I may want to test the game, I don't want to spend more to do this. I could care less about starting my own NBA season for instance. And yet another person who can't think before writing, what a waste.

I liked 2k4, even though I going to trade it in. And the $20 price point is what got me to pick up an NFL game in almost ten years, so of course I am going to get 2k5.

Got a hold of ESPN 2k5 and what a well done basketball game. From the post up moves, to the player movements to the ability to put your own soundtrack on during games, I'm loving this thing. It's actually challenging me too, as All-Star and Superstar settings of difficulty mean I'm gonna be in a 48 minute dog fight more or less.

Well worth your money this one is.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

if you get ESPN then get online as soon as you can because

A: the game is fun as hell.

B: the franchise is so horrible your brain will explode from the sheer badness.
