On Thorns I Lay is another mellowsaddener, mainly the crystal tears album, specifical songs: My Angel, Eden and Enigma. Try to think of more later, great topic. When I listen to the NIN original, I don't really feel anything, but Cash's just brings the downtroddenness to a whole new level. His voice, I think, is what makes it so beautifully sad. My ex sent me an email after we were broken up and had both moved on, and the jist of it was, listen to "The Dance" and you'll understand, won't be depressed anymore, blah blah blah.
