A second chamber for the UN

Recommended Posts

this is more of an idea of mine. But currently China and Tonga have the same say on the General Assembly. So I worked on an idea for a House of Representatives-esque chamber.

But one problem is that it'd be massive.

So maybe this works.

http://www.geocities.com/bigredrbh/un.htm

925 seats

country population divided by 5 million. But with a cap of 47 (to stop China or India from dominating, under the formula, if there was no cap, then China would have 259 seats)

There's 191 countries in the UN. Taiwan and the Vatican are not members. Palestine isn't either, but for the purpose of having an odd number of members, they're included. But you can overlook that.

# of reps:

1 - 100 countries

2 - 26 countries

3 - 12 countries

4 - 7 countries

5 - 7 countries

and so on.. it is a bit skewed though. It could use some work or weighting.

then again, it also gives Bangladesh a lot of seats too

So, which group or country would strike down this idea first?

The French since they'd be against anything that would further dwindle what little power they actually have.

Fuck them. When they actually do something useful, I might listen to them.

How about we just let the UN relocate to Paris, and let them fuck up things on their own?

Just think: Twice the chambers, TWICE THE CORRUPTION!

The U.N. does such a great job, let's make it BIGGER.

I'm concerned that when U.N. Peacekeepers run away from a rabid chipmunk that if there's more of them a stampede will occur and they'll trample over the people they're supposed to protect...
