KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 Not to take anything away from Lieber (who pitched a HELL of a game), but the Sox hitters helped him immensly by swinging at *everything*. He finished with, what, 83 pitches? You gotta make a guy throw more pitches than that. And if I was Pedro, I'd be livid at my teammates for leaving him hanging after he did all he could, in the most hostile enviroment anyone could pitch in by the way, to keep the Yankees' offense at bay. They MUST sweep at Fenway, not take 2 of 3, or this one's over. With Schilling's injury, that "edge" in starting pitching went kaput, so they got a climb ahead of them. And this team seems to have reverted to their pre-trade style of play: pray for the home run ball. Ortiz' at-bat against Rivera is a great example; he wanted to crush the ball 500 feet when Rivera has NEVER given up a postseason homer.

Guest Anglesault Report post Posted October 14, 2004 he wanted to crush the ball 500 feet when Rivera has NEVER given up a postseason homer. Sandy Alomar begs to differ. And Ortiz fucked up. He was looking to jack one when a single or double was far more likely and sets the table for Millar and Nixon.
Guest cpac Report post Posted October 14, 2004 Lieber doesn't throw too many matches anyhow. I dont blame the Red Sox hitters for swinging. Lieber throws strikes and has a very low walk total for the season. The last thing he is going to do is walk the park.
mike546 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 Ortiz wasn't hitting a homer (or pulling it anyway) with that cutter Rivera had working tonight inside.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 The FOX graphic said he never had, so I guess they were wrong. I'm not surprised. Could someone drag McCarver into the other room and slap the hell out of him? I'd really rather have Leiter (who brings something to the table) with Buck instead of Tim's "John Madden on baseball" approach. EDIT: Well, was that homer in an LDS? If so, then I guess it meant he's never given one up in an LCS.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 I just realised AS' sig has AFB in it. Now I'm nauseous. For the past two days I've prepared big feasts to watch the game. Saturday I'm fasting

KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 Just to bring it up, Friday's game may be in jeopardy, since it's supposed to rain all day. I guess if they cancel it, they will just play Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, since you don't need a whole day to go back to New York.

Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted October 14, 2004 So far I have learned/reinforce two main things. 1. I am an idiot when it comes to predicting these things. Thank God I am not a gambling man. 2. Either God is a huge Yankee fan, or Steinbrenner renwed his contract with the Devil. Anything is possible and I am not counting the Sox out, yet.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 Poor Boston. Next year, try saying how much you love the curse and release shirts about how great it is for you and the city. Maybe you can trick it. Oddly enough, I didn't even know there was a game tonight. Turns out there were two games and I didn't watch but maybe five minutes of each.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 I think I'll revise my previous prediction of Yanks in 5. Yanks will now sweep. Stick a fork in the Sox, this thing is over.

the max 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/041014 The series has just devolved into a nightmare for Red Sox fans. The Red Sox lost the one guy that was the "in" to the World Series. The one guy that was what the Yanks wanted but couldn't get. And now the offense is letting Jon fucking Lieber throw six pitch innings and is getting three hit in an ALCS by a guy that was once traded for Brant fucking Brown. Guest GreatOne Report post Posted October 14, 2004 he wanted to crush the ball 500 feet when Rivera has NEVER given up a postseason homer. Sandy Alomar begs to differ. Alex Rodriguez would beg to differ too I believe, although it meant less cause Arthur Rhodes had already fucked it away.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2004 I'd rather go watch Red Sox playoff baseball than instead of watching it on TV. Even if they lose. EDIT: Just found out I've got a bunch of stupid shit on class on Friday so I doubt I'll be able to go unless the game gets rained out and played on Saturday. Bah. Guest Brian Report post Posted October 14, 2004 This series is making absolutely no sense.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted October 14, 2004 This series is making absolutely no sense. What are you talking about? Its the Yankees vs. Red Sox Don't think about who's better on paper, just see who is playing, and their history together. It makes perfect sense that this game could be a sweep since everyone and their mother was declaring this year to be the one the Red Sox finally break the curse. Besides, aside from the guys in the middle of the order, they really don't come anywhere close to reaching the Yankees. Just look at Olerud and Lofton hitting homeruns. Cairo is even dangerous. They are so clutch and DEEP offensively, that even if they didn't have great pitching they'd be tough to supress. After seeing how the Yanks were hitting in the 1st inning of game 1, I could tell momentum was on their side, and none of this surprises me.
