Best near falls ever?

Recommended Posts

I was watching Austin/Rock from WMX7 tonight and the near fall where Rock kicks out of the stunner (which he turns into after beating up Vince) has to be one of the best near falls of all time. What are some others?

Of all people, Test and Brock Lesnar from the KotR Lesnar won... 2003?

Lesnar's kickout of the Big Boot. DAMN, but that thing looked like it legit killed him. I already knew the results when I finally got to see it, but that count actually made me forget it.

It was KotR 2002. Not a bad match.

Hogan kicking out of the Rock Bottom to Rock kicking out of the Legdrop at WrestleMania X-8.

If Hogan had have pinned Rock with that first legdrop, the Skydome would no longer exist.

I have agree that is one of the best falls ever. I legit thought that when he hit the leg it was over.

I can't remember what exactly it was, but Chris Benoit breaking up a pinfall after either a Sweet Chin Music or a Pedigree (I think it was the Pedigree) after being put through a table a couple minutes earlier at WMXX. The Hooters I was at watching the show frickin' exploded when he broke up the pin.

The Ultimate Warrior kicking out after 5 Randy Savage Big Elbows at WM7, and then Macho kicking out after the Warriors usual routine finish. Crowd reaction was incredible to both.

Bret Hart kicking out of the Perfect-plex at SummerSlam 91.

Yep. This was AMAZING. I nearly left a mark in my shorts.

When mick foley kicks out of the pedigree at royal rumble 2000

Gotta agree here. I didn't see that happening at all, and then he gets up only to take another Pedigree right on the tacks. Fucking sick, and one of my favorite matches ever.

Good thread btw.

Perfect pulling Savage off Flair at 2 at Wrestlemania 8. Savage makes the huge comeback, hits the elbow, but Perfect pulls him off at 2.

I am with him

How about Benoit putting Angle in the Crossface near the end of their RR2003 classic? You could just FEEL Angle tapping out, then he rolled through into the Grapevine Anklelock.

I know I say it a lot, but I was there LIVE and not ONE person wasn't yelling "TAP!!!!" I seriously thought it was Benoit's destiny right there, but it wasn't meant to be. Fucking amazing match.

Another one: Steve Austin vs. Chris Benoit @ Raw in Calgary, May 2001. Benoit putting Austin the Sharpshooter. As Heyman said "You can feel it!!!" Another moment where I thought Benoit had the title one. Fucking awesome shit.

Cool. I didn't know that. I'll add that tidbit to my review of Benoit vs Angle.

Dont know whether you technically count it as a near fall, but the Shawn Michaels 'only foot hit the ground' Royal Rumble in 95 was well executed. Bulldog threw him over, they took all focus off Shawn as Davey Boy went and posed while his music played, and then out of nowhere HBK knocks him over. Then they announce that only one of his feet hit touched. Confusing for an instant, but very imaginitive.

Sorry to get off topic here for a bit, but they couldn't have found a better match to follow up the HHH/Steiner embarassment.

Another good match that I can remember was HHH vs Rikishi from Smackdown in late 2000/early 2001. It was a World Title match and HHH kicked out of everything Rikishi threw at him, but you just knew Rikishi was going to win the championship one way or another in that match. Thats got to be Rikishi's best match by far. No pun intended, but HHH was on top of his game in every way, shape, and form that night. :headbang:

Misawa kicking out of the Dangerous Backdrop at the end of 6/9/95.

Also, Misawa kicking out of the Powerbomb 25 minutes into the 6/3/94 match. I didn't know the match result before hand, so it totally shocked me when Misawa kicked out.

It was the best match I've ever seen in my entire life...live or not live.

Thanks.

I finished it last night. I put in the WWE section.

Some great near falls?

Always loved Angle's kick out of Edge's small package at No Mercy

Benoit's dragon suplex on Booker T in the "best of 7 series"

There's a tremendous amount of near falls in Japan that I loved

Not some much a nearfall... but the final time Jeff Hardy climbed the ladder during the Hardy/Taker World Title Match on Raw. The one where he knocked Taker down with the chair and beat on him, and then took like 30 seconds to climb the ladder and the camera zoomed in TIGHT on him, his hand gets inches away...and then BOOM...there comes Taker to ruin it all.

Shit, there were even a few smarks 'round here that were cheering for Jeff to win the big one, including myself. It would have been awesome (even if just for a week).

There's no way you're going to beat the Japanese guys for near falls. They time them insanely well, and just the presence of the crowd's

ONE! TWO!... AWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

every time there;s a near fall is awesome.

True, the "ONE! TWO!... AWWWWWWWWWWWWW" bit is an essential part of what makes Japanese wrestling enjoyable.
