Fuzzy Dunlop Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Well, here's my new projected Cubs lineup: Hairston Walker Nomar Aramis Burnitz Lee CPat Barrett Zambrano Steve Stone thinks these guys can win the Central according to some interview I heard about online, though that was before Burnitz was made official.
Fuzzy Dunlop Posted February 2, 2005 Report Posted February 2, 2005 Sort of off topic, but has anyone seen those new Cubs wristbands that are basically like the Lance Armstrong bands? They're blue, have the Cubs logo and say "Believe" on them. I guess they were only available at the Cubs Convention, but they'll be putting out more eventually. Look pretty cool and I'd like to get one, but the prices for them on eBay are obviously borderline ridculous right now. Yeah, I've seen these, too, and they're for charity, right? I'll definitely buy one if they're selling them anywhere other than the convention.

The question is can Burnitz even produce a mild amount of the offense lost cause you KNOW Hairston isn't going to produce offense unless it's stolen bases. 2GOLD Posted February 3, 2005 Report Posted February 3, 2005 I'm watching the Sosa press conference and one of the reporters seems hell BENT on making Sammy snap on Dusty Baker. And Sammy is laughing and happy and....I haven't seen Sammy like this since, 2002. Oh and he thanked the Cubs fans and city but is just repeating over and over that he has a new house and he wants to move on from what happened. Doesn't want to go into detail what happened and he still loves his teammates. Oh and Sammy is not the leader of the Orioles, Miguel is. Yes, I am basically transcripting the conference as it happens.

Regardless, we know he'll produce, but we also know he'll eventually resort to his petty ways. Then again, winning obviously isn't what's important to him, so perhaps this move will benefit all.

Umm, Hairston had a .378 OBP last season. That's better than any Cub regular hit. Considering the Cubs posted the 11th best OBP in the NL, they desperately needed a productive player in that category. Hairston provides it. I expect him to put on his little act. Bruiser Chong Posted February 3, 2005 Author Report Posted February 3, 2005 Probably not, but then again, Sosa was known to clash with previous Cub managers, so you can't pin it all on Baker. I don't deny that Baker helped bring out the worst in several players. His encouraging all the petty drama bullshit that went down last season made matters worse. Still, I think you need to consider all of the expectations that were placed on the Cubs in 2004. No excuse, but suddenly, they went from losers to guys expected to win the WS. Obviously the fans and players both had problems dealing with the harsh reality last September provided.

He should be getting a one year deal until he proves his healthy. 1 year at 15 million is a HUGE stretch, but multiplying that by 5 is insanity.
Cuban Linx Posted February 5, 2005 Report Posted February 5, 2005 I can see the Tigers overpaying for Magglio even with the injury concerns, they've gone after just about every big name free agent at some point and haven't come close to landing any of them, with Magglio all that's left them throwing a crazy deal to Ordonez to ensure they actually sign somebody this offseason doesn't surprise me. Safe to say if that deal is correct Magglio will be a Detroit Tiger, no other team will be stupid enough to match that.
