i have been looking forward to both movies for a while and wanted to know if anyone has seen them either. Ray have been getting great reviews, while I havent seen alot of SAW reviews but horror fanatics seem to love it. Your thoughts?

I saw Ray tonight. Jamie Foxx is amazing in it, but the movie is a tad too long, and it kinda wraps up pretty fast, but it's worth it to see Foxx acting his balls out. This movie reminded me why I love playing music so much.

I'm looking forward to Ray.

Speaking of the Grudge, that kid that meows on the commercial kills me because he closely resembles Batboy, who is the greatest tabloid image of all time.

Batboy orbits the Earth was hysterical.

Saw was mediocre. The ending was awesome but getting there definitely was not. Not to mention the dialogue and acting were laughable at times. There are a lot better attempts at suspense horror out there.

I pulled double duty tonight at the theaters. I saw Ray first, then right after that I saw a special showing of Ghostbusters at another theater down the street. It was awesome seeing Ghostbusters on the big screen by the way, and was a flat out awesome time what with it being a packed theater. We all had a great time watching that one.

But before that, was Ray.

If you've read my posts in the past about this film, you know that I had high hopes for this one. Not just for the film, but also about the performance of Foxx. I must say now that I've seen it, well, it more than lived up to what I wanted.

I've heard many say the last 30 minutes go by very slowly, but to me I didn't feel that. As a matter of fact, the film blew by so fast to me that I was pissed when it ended. I can't remember the last time I was left wanting more, more and more! Seeing this film was unlike any experience that I've ever had at the movies. Not only was just about everyone in the theater moving to the sounds of the fantastic music that was featured throughout the film, but at the very end of it...get this, I experienced the first EVER standing ovation after a showing of a film.

It wasn't just for the film though, obviously, seeing how Ray recently passed away, so it seemed fitting to me. It was also a packed theater, with the majority of the crowd being African American.

As for the film itself, it was not perfect, but it was indeed fantastic. I'll write more on the actual film later, but I do give it two thumbs up, or a score of 8.5/9.0 out of 10. If I have to say something against the film, it is that it somewhat suffers from the same thing that "Ali" suffered from. You are dealing with a man whose life just can not totally fit in a feature length film, and because of that you have jumps in time that at times do not make sense, the editing seems a bit off at time, and there is just a lot that they don't have the time to showcase.

As for Jamie, I do believe this film has cemented him as a huge name now. There is no doubting what he accomplished here. What you have here is a true presentation of acting, where the actor not only is acting like a character, but instead they BECOME said character to the point where you believe they are actually who they are acting out. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a performance as much as this.

Jamie Foxx...was Ray Charles, it was that perfect.

This shouldn't take you surprise though, since Foxx really devoted himself to this role, and you can tell that he wanted nothing but the best from this role. My hat goes off to him. Jamie Fox, you have arrived.

I do not mean to discredit the supporting cast by the way. There isn't a single person involved in this project that wasn't solid or better. Everyone involved in this film should really be proud.

If you ask me, this was a very fitting film to showcase the life of Ray Charles. I'm sure they have made him proud.

I think Saw is an above average movie and a decent first movie by the director. I love the whole aspect of the movie and the ending rules. On a scale of 1-10 I'll give it an 8.1. Much better than mediocore and a well worth the price of admission.

I saw "Saw" last night in a packed sold out theater. The acting at times was laughably bad, the audience(including myself) was laughing at some pretty tense moments, but overall I though it was a good movie, and had a good suprise/twist ending. Its much better than most of the crap hollywood puts out these days...

Like I said saw is a good movie especially for a first time director. I really didn't care that much about the script too much, this was a low budget movie. I just loved the whole genre and aspect of the movie and the who is the killer. Plus I believe the other guy in the room with Cary Elwes wrote the script so blame him.

I think I read that the writers of Saw just wanted to create a decent horror movie with a small budget, and even though most critics have shit all over it, casual moviegoers seem to think it's passable considering the circumstances.

Saw was pretty cool, inspite of some poor acting. Kind of made me think of Italian Giallo films like "Opera" or "Torso"

I honestly didn't think the acting in SAW was as poor as everyone says. I think there was a purpose for a lot of it to be that way......you know to seem like the "characters" were acting instead of being "real".....that way to further the plot. I really enjoyed it, and the ending makes the entire film worthwile. Not the most original film I've seen, but I thought they did a good job on it.

I haven't seen either yet, but I wanted to ask those who saw "Ray": do you think Foxx will get an Oscar nod for the film?

Cause the thought that he might sort of blows my mind, considering I first remember him as one of the guys on "In Living Color" with the Wayans.

It is not even the fact that Jamie Fox was on In Living Colour. I think it has to do more with the fact that his only popular character was the ugly lady with big lips who constantly tried to get some.

I saw Ray last night and I was completely blown away. It is a bit on the long side, but I didn't mind because I actually like long films if they're well done, and I just couldnt get enough of Jamie Foxx. If he doesn't get an Oscar nod, then there is simply no God.

The movie itself is alright... a typical, limited biopic that's very choppy and at times seems thrown together, but Foxx alone makes it worth the price of admission AND an encore. I just kind of wish they would've cut some scenes that didn't seem to have much flow so that they could play more of the amazing music

Not only will he be nominated, but he'll more than likely WIN.

To shine a bit of light on all of this In Loving Color talk, think of it like this. Not only will one ILC cast member be nominated for best actor, but more than likely we'll see two...the other being Jim Carey for ESotSM.

I hightly doubt Carrey will get nominated. He deserves it, but the Academy seems to have a strange hesitation towards him.

Oh SHIT, now I actually remember him doing that.

Wow......Now I'm REALLY going to be tripping if he wins the Oscar. I mean hell, he probably deserves to win, but still - it's going to be pretty weird.

Oh, and I don't think Carrey will get nominated for an Oscar, but I can see him getting nominated for a Golden Globe - the Globes seem to treat him pretty well.

I saw SAW today and I'm not sure what I think. At times the low budget shows, and I have to admit like others that I laughed my ass off at times during some tense moments. Would you believe my theater cut off the last min. or so, thus I'm not entirely sure what happens after..

The "dead" guy gets up and we find out he is the killer. He shuts the door on Adam and that's when in my theater the movie stopped and went back to the ads.

Also, the whole thing about Zapp the orderly being blackmailed due to being poisoned was ludicrous. I mean the guy WORKS IN A HOSPITAL. You're telling me that he would remotely listen to this idiot who poisoned him? Why not just go to a doctor in the hospital and get an antidote? It seems more reasonable that, oh, kidnapping the doctor's wife and daughter and planning to kill them in the faint hope of getting an antidote from a serial killer.

Man, wasn't Danny Glover the most inept cop ever in this movie? He fucks up and thinks Elwes is the killer, he fucks up and botches the arrest on the killer and his partner dies, then he fucks up while trying to catch Zapp near the end and gets himself killed. What a fucking idiot.

No way the Academy rewards a young actor's first great performance, especially given that he's a black guy. Sorry, but it's just not gonna happen (the W anyways...he'll prolly get nominated, though).

I saw Saw last night, like others I agree that the poor acting brings it down a notch. The plot was however clever, but it was just hard to get into the tense moments when the theatre is laughing at the cheezy acting the actors are trying to sell.

Cabbageboy, the movie ends when it ended for you

SAW's acting was some of the worst I've ever seen. I did, however, get a good laugh at of the "suspensful" scenes with my friends, so it was worth the 5 dollars.

Apparently you missed Adrien Brody's win for the pianist in '02

Guest The Shadow Behind You

I went to see RAY this afternoon and to my surprise, it was a sunday afternoon and the theatre which held 438 people was full with an exception of a 4 rows in the lower balcony. I arrived just as the credits started up and I was forced to sit in a corner seat but it really didn't affect my viewing of the movie. The first thing I noticed was how predominatly black the audience was, which wasn't a surprise. The movie was just superb. I can't express how amazing Jamie Foxx was here. I felt the ending was rushed but the movie was fantastic and the music was just beauitful over those speakers. Then came something i never seen before, a STANDING OVATION. I never seen a standing O for a movie before in my and life but this was the appros movie for it.

Brody's not black. However, I think he could get the win, although I doubt it. I'll be seeing Ray tomorrow or Tuesday.

Ray is very much the typical "biography" movie. Reminded me VERY much of Will Smith's "Ali." Just the telling of the story is very pedestrian, exactly what you expect when you think of a big movie telling the story of a famous real life entertainer. If you like those sort of movies, you should definetly see it.

Jamie Foxx did an AWESOME job as Ray Charles. Really good and convincing.

I give it a B. Raised above mediocrity by excellent acting.

I just got back from seeing Saw, and I didn't think the acting was bad at all, like some of you say. The ending was nice, but I do have an issue with the plot overall. This was supposed to be billed as a horror movie and "blah blah scariest this and that and bleh..." however, after the movie was over and I thought about it for awhile, the plot itself started out good, but once they got to the meat and potatoes of the potential bad guy, it seemed to reduce into nothing more then yer average, "oh, btw, did you see that creepy guy in the background for 2 seconds in the beginning....haha you guess it" and yes I know it wasn't THAT guy who ended up being the real bad guy, but still it was so cliche for it to be the "odd looking guy who got 2 seconds of screen time, and ONE indirect insult thrown his way

I meant that Adrien Brody, a relatively unknown actor, surprised everyone in '02 when he won. I personally thought Daniel Day Lewis had it locked for his amazing performance in Gangs of New York... so I was shocked (and a little pissed at first) when Brody won.

Foxx has a definite chance and the pressure will be on to give him the award considering the fact that A) the movie was released at just the right time near the end of the year, guaranteeing him a better shot than say Jim Carrey whose film was released much earlier in the year and B) everyone is already clamoring behind him in such a way that it would be an outrage if he didn't get it.. and I really don't think anyone else has delivered a performance quite as powerful this year

The award is his to take
