This week in the NBA

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen a TNT broadcast of a game before, but is it just me or does Magic Johnson commentate like he's never lost a game before?

I think the surprise team this seaoson might be Dallas. Everyone is writing them off since they got bounced out of the playoffs in the first round last season and they got rid of Nash, but I think they might be on a better road this year than last. They have two good point guards now and have defined Dirk as there go to guy.

I agree, they are really deep and I like the balance that the team has. With Spree and Cassell acting like bitches now, I put Dallas ahead of Minnesota and right behind the Spurs.

I still don't understand why folks are down on the Lakers for giving up Shaq, the additions they have this year ain't slouches...they're just missing the domination in the center, which the Pistons last season proved that means squat anyway...

We get the point, Dama.

Hate to say I told you so. Oh, and Shaq is already questionable for the season opener tongiht with the Heat. He was great in his prime, but Kobe is the present as well as the future for the franchise. Adding Odom, Butler, Grant, hell even Atkins, Mihm, and Divac could only help. That was a team that, despite having a large presence inside, was outhustled and outplayed by a smaller, more athletic team. Whether they can keep up with the big boys in the West remains to be seen, as I REALLY don't have any confidence in Mihm's defensive ability in the paint.

But man, Odom and Grant are rebounding machines and it's great to see that. Butler can take it to the hole just like Kobe can, and Kobe proved, at least for one game, that he's not a selfish player. They made a note of it, and acurately, I might add, that Kobe isn't trying to fight through double-teams as much anymore, and is placing trust in his teammates by passing them the ball. This probably would have helped last season, but even if Kobe kept feeding it to Shaq, getting constantly outrebounded was a major problem all throughout the Detroit series, and were getting worked in the fastbreak against Minnesota and San Antonio. Last night, the fastbreak didn't work quite as well for Denver.

It's just one game though, against an overrated Nuggets team.. Let's see if it means anything in a couple weeks, with games against both the Spurs, Rockets and Kings coming up.

I want so badly to believe that this is the real Kobe...the real test, though, will come when they fall behind to someone. Will Kobe continue to operate within the offence and let the game come to him, or will he start jacking up shots from the parking lot with three guys on him like last year?

He made a believer out of me, though, at least for one night.

Well we've seen what several teams can do. Now let's see what some of the other teams can do tonight.

And I will give the Lakers one thing. They were hustling pretty well last night wheras last season with the big slow man in the center they didn't hustle. Kobe mentioned he wanted team speed and I think he's gotten his wish.

Tonight the Shaq lovefest begins on ESPN. I don't what's worse Dan Leotard or Stephen A. Smith's comments about Shaq carrying the Heat to the Finals.

I like this format, Alf.

Good debut for the 76ers, as they come back to beat the Celtics. We don't have great players (except AI), but we have a very deep team, and we can pull off a good season with the right matchups.

The injury-riddled Pacers pull out a double-OT win in Cleveland, 109-104, despite the officials' complete refusal to call fouls on LeBron James. Z had us at his mercy through the first three quarters, but then they stopped going to him. We got 20 points out of Croshere and a double-double out of Pollard, who failed to score in double figures all of last season.

Miami is blowing out the Nets right now on ESPN, Nets have 60 points with less than 8 minutes. Zo looks like he's holding up pretty well.

Spurs have a 10 point lead over the Kings with Duncan and Ginobili have good games. Unfortunately Rasho's new offensive threat the hook needs work and Parker needs to improve on his layups.....too many damn turnovers from bad fast breaks lead by Parker.

Knicks lose to Minnesota. Same old Knicks here. Get off to a really hot start in the 1st quarter hitting long jumper after long jumper. Then the 2nd stringers come in the 2nd quarter and do nothing and let the other team back in the game. Same old crap, those long jumpers never seem to go down in the second half and the other team pulls away. They are a jump shooting team in the end, and if the shots don't fall, they lose. It's sickening watching other teams post up and get easy shots while the Knicks take these ridiculous falling away jumpers with 3 guys in their face. I know it's the first game and all, but it's the same old, same old.

Hey, at least the Nets didn't have to call a timeout to get to 70 tonight!

Final score: 100-77 Miami

Next on ESPN, Lakers at Utah

Brent Barry and Manu Ginobili are building good team chemistry at getting steals and running the fast breaks.....Tony Parker should worry about his job again.

How did Iguodala do Al? Apparently Big Jackass wants to be traded, and to that I say please do.

From what I saw, I was very pleased with his performance.

John Saunders giving the Lakers verbal blowjobs, "they will make the playoffs", "Kobe is the best player in the NBA". Greg Anthony and Legler basically had to apologize for daring to say they don't think the Lakers will make the playoffs.

Is there any way that the Utah Jazz can revert to purple and sky blue again? God they look so awful

With the retro jerseys being popular I see no reason why they can't wear the Stockton Era jerseys.

I liked the mountain jerseys better than the New Orleans holdovers myself
