kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I had watched ATH for quite some time, and I always liked it. I enjoyed the pace of the show, the presentation and the in-bickering between the reporters. It had been a while since I watched the show, and yesterday I decided to turn it back on. I could only watch 5 minutes of this crap. First off, there's no more music during the topic discussion, the presentation has changed, and in many ways for the worse, and the reporters are now so incredibly lame. When did this change take place? And don't say "ATH has always been bad lol..."
Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 My opinions: First was the departure of Max. A lot of people hate on him, but he brought an energy and vibe to the show that Tony doesn't. Holley and The Voice leaving were big too. Second is the fact that Tony apparently wants to give Woody the boot ASAP on every show, and since Woody is the best of all those guys by far, that's not helping Third is that Mariotti and Plaschke suck fat balls
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 But even when Max left and Tony took over, I still enjoyed the show. I admit the Voice did take something away from the show when he left, but I think ESPN was just too lazy (and cheap) to get another personality and just use some lame voice. I liked Holley, but I don't miss him. I think what really got me was the lack of music during the debate. Plus I also missed the "These four things I KNOW are true." The only thing I thought was a plus when they gave little "stats" to each of the reporters when they were introduced, but that doesn't even begin to counter all the things ESPN ruined on that show... Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Another thing (going along the lines of getting rid of Woody ASAP) is Tony not following the points rule. I know the points are arbitrary anyway, but at least Max (for the most part) would eject whoever was in last place in the two rounds. Tony will just boot whoever he wants to, regardless of point total ("Woody, you have a 20 point lead over the others, but you insulted the Yankees, so you're outta here")
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I don't like how he hates on Michael Smith ALL the time either...he's not my favorite on the show, but it seems like Tony boots him all the time just to be funny...Mariotti on the show everyday is really grating as well and Plaschke just plain sucks...yes this show truely has sunk to the lowest level... Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 11, 2004 I think my problem with the show is mostly that Mariotti has just become unbearable for the most part. He's just turned into this ass that doesn't know anything. I think the personalities in general are just out of control and stale. I think they should seriously consider bringing Zach back to host and replacing all the guests except for Woody and Mariotti.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 11, 2004 any show with Mariotti on it is doomed to fail. Hopefully this applies to his radio show too.
starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 When did this change take place? And don't say "ATH has always been bad lol..." Well, since you know, I won't say it. Regardless, ATH was Kellerman's thing. Stat Boy and Zach Selwyn are decent enough, but ultimately the show is tailored for Max, and anyone else hosting isn't gonna put as much focus that Kellerman obviously did. razazteca 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2004 Lately on the final segment when the "winner" gets his 30 seconds to rant about anything, the losers can be heard talking in the background. I, Max is back on tv with a few new gimmicks such as the Vegas Line.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 I don't like the new I, Max at all. It's funny how annoying Kellerman is when he spends most of a show talking to guests and Vegas gamblers instead of being carried by Holley. I basically watch the first 10m or so that Holley is on, then flip it off. ATH is perhaps declining because you can tell there is legit heat between these guys. Whereas on PTI Tony and Mike are just fucking with each other, guys like Mariotti and Paige seem to REALLY hate each other. It doesn't help that they have had Josh "Dreamboat" Elliott on way too much lately instead of Woody.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 12, 2004 What does ATH and PTI get?... God knows. It's nigh impossible to find ratings unless you have a Nielsen subscription. I SUSPECT ATH gets around 0.4 or so, but that is just a guess. -=Mike
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 12, 2004 I think it's something like a .6, I remember Adande making some reference to their rating one day.

Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted November 12, 2004 I believe they are. Remember the week of the Super Bowl Woody snuck Jay on to keep the streak alive.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 Losing Max and Bill Wolf plus the tinkering with the little format changes to try and seperate Tony from Max has really hurt the show. I'm not going to go into the long list of little changes they've made, some of them have been mentioned (background music, not obeying scoring, changing the lead-ins and commerical bumps from the host, making Tony host & announcer, etc. etc.) but basically all of this has conspired to hurt the show. Also, they need an overhaul of the panelists, definitely need some new blood. Mariotti ONCE a week is enough, not everyday though. Plaschke (sp) SUCKS with his ugly mug, lispy voice and utter stupidity. Losing Bob Ryan hurt. A lot. Not having Woody on as much hurts. A lot. I still maintain that Kellerman was the heart and soul of the show though, it's really suffered since he left. And I like I, Max, I think the new format works well. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 Bob Ryan doesn't do ANY shows anymore? Woody Paige is scaled back? I gotta watch tomorrow...seems like whenever I DO catch ESPN at 4, they're pre-empted

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 (edited) Really? I watch a couple times a week and I haven't seen Ryan in AGES, yet Mariotti is on EVERY time Edited November 12, 2004 by Precious Roy
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2004 Woody saying "get him the hell out of here" when Mariotti was one of the funniest things I've seen on that show. I miss people like Simers and Charlie Smith, and the lightning round. The Daily Spread is what sucks about I,Max now. Only one segment with Wolff and Holley isn't enough.
