Just call me Dan

Evolution

Recommended Posts

I, for one, loved the group. Batista and Orton were made stars from thier induction. While one can argue that Randy should not be in his position at the time, he is worthy of a secure TV spot at least, IMO. These were two guys who came to Raw with pretty much nothing and now serve as centerpieces.

I can't help but mark out when all four would come out dressed so well with the blaring white lights and thier bad ass entrance theme.

A reunion of the original four in a few years would be something pretty memorable, IMO.

Which brings me to the question.... How will Evolution be seen down the road in comparison to all the past stables over the years?

Did they actually make a mark in your eyes?

I also love/loved Evolution, I even say that while wearing an Evo t-shirt (not sounding like a fan-boy) but hey.. You get the one black mark against them that is Triple H trying to 'be' Flair, which would seem to make Evo seem to be the Horsemen v2003/4...

But they are definately the best stable to come out of the WWE in the past five years, since DX.

They won't even register on the radar screen. People will talk about the Dangerouse Alliance, nWo, Horsemen, DX, Coproration, Two Man Power Trip, WCW/ECW Alliance, Hart Foundation and a handful of other stables before anyone mentions Evolution.

No way would someone rank the Power Trip above Evolution.

Or the WCW/ECW alliance. They whole angle was just botched.

Why would anyone remember Evolution? They've chased plenty of people off and have completely tanked the buyrates. They've had all of the negatives of the nWo with zero of the positives.

And yes people will remember the Alliance way more than Evolution because more people were watching the shows and buying the PPVs.

I could walk up to any number of my friends and they'd know the Alliance but would have no clue about Evolution and these are people that are wrestling fans.

Does it really matter anymore anyway? I mean WWE has a monopoly on America Prowrestling now, and assuming it stays this way for the next 5 years or so, they are going to be able to pretty much totaly rewrite history as to who was the best of everything anyway.

Prowrestling desperately needs competition.

Oh they can rewrite history all they want and there's going to be about 6 million wrestling fans from the Monday Night Wars that will never see it.

Evolution came at a down-time in the industry.

To be honest, they're WWF's Camp Cornette (Vader, Owen Hart, and British Bulldog) or WCW's 3 Faces of Fear (Kevin Sullivan, Avalanche, & The Butcher) of this era.

Nah, I wouldn't go that far. I mean of those two, only one had a "main eventer" in the stable [Vader in Camp Cornette] - if anything, Evolution is the equivalent of the Million Dollar Corporation, just not with as many guys.

..and I don't see why Triple H trying to emulate Flair is a "black mark" - most wrestler do this regardless of a stable.

I can't believe that you put down the Alliance & the Two Man Power Trip, but forgot the Heenan Family.

Yes, I'd put the Heenan Family well ahead of Evolution. Just didn't think of them right away.

Might as well just bring up the Varsity Club too before they get mentioned.

I'll remember the Alliance as being the single biggest flop in the history of wrestling. That's technically not a good thing to be remembered for.

2-Man Power Trip is a Tag Team, not a stable, otherwise 100,000,000 tag Teams will beat out them.

Evolution ranks ahead of them obviously. For now, D-X, the New World Order (only the 1996-1997 run), the Four Horsemen (up until 1993), and MAYBE the Dangerous Alliance (they were only around for a very short time compared to the previous mentioned, although it didn't drag on which was a plus) all rank ahead the list.

Evolution would be ranked fairly high only because of HHH's political peak, Pimptista and because of the lack of any significant heel stable in the last few years, post-Corporation. They haven't done anyting meaningful or memorable. They may be involved in an angle that'll be remembered for years to come sometime down the road, but it hasn't happened yet.

If you want to discuss stables that copied the 4 Horsemen concept then the Triple Threat was best at it with The Franchise Shane Douglas as the leader being far superior than Evolution. Hell, The Game was just a more healthier version of The Franchise in my eyes.

Triple H has a better finishing move than Douglas. Really, a Belly-to-Belly suplex from a guy that isn't more than 300 lbs?

Still, this really isn't a workrate or whatever Question, because if that were the case Evolution would really suck outside of a few matches now and then.

They imitated the 4 Horsemen by having won all the titles on RAW (HHH as World Champ, Orton as IC Champ, and Batista/Flair as Tag Champs) on 1 show (Armageddon 2003).

That's a true statement, but only for us "smart marks". Most of us are of the age to have actually seen most of that stuff on TV, not tape, and we remember how great they were, but the common fan today weren't old enough to watch it or even remember it. Also, I think "marks" outnumber us "smart marks".

Personally, from what I have watched over the years, Evolution ranks in the top 10 for me personally.

The Dungeon Of Doom was quite impressive at one point. They had like every big man ever, all in the stable at once.

The Alliance To End Hulkamania now that was a stable. :P

Z-Gangsta & The Ultimate Solution had me marking out when I saw how big the Solution was.

Evolution just seem like a watered down version of a stable, kinda like WWE seems like a watered down version of a Wrestling organization nowadays.

I'd rank both incarnations of the Triple Threat ahead of evolution, but especially the original: Shane Douglas, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko.

Is there a coincidence that Douglas is "The Franchise" while HHH later calls himself "The Game"? Are there other similarities between the two?

Both went through a period where they seemed to get injured every other week. Both went through some 'growth spurts'. Both are overrated by their biggest fans.

So who's the better of the two?

Triple H is better, but he's also the most overrated of the two in terms of how he's seen by his biggest fans.
