Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 21, 2004 People who are like "This was inexcusable. Ron Artest should be banned for life, exiled to Siberia, then drawn and quartered in the Irkutsk town square" are getting carried away. Had this been Tim Duncan or Jason Kidd or someone else everyone loves instead of Artest those same people would be saying it's not his fault and he shouldn't get too harsh of a fine. Imagine if it had been Kobe Bryant! Though I doubt he'd do something like that, the rape trial did enough to tarnish his image..
Guest LooneyTune Report post Posted November 21, 2004 I finally got to see this during the opening of Orlando vs. Indiana...God Damn was that shit crazy. O'Neal decking that motherfucker made me the happiest son of a bitch on earth. Any fan fucking stupid enough to attack a player or even come on the court deserves to have his teeth knocked out of his fucking mouth. (keeps tape)
Guest Brian Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Neither fan had any intentions of fighting. They were stupid to be on the coart, but even when Artest raised his fst to punch the fan he stood there without fighting back. Artest gets into the crowd = suspended. Fan gets onto the court during game = open to anything within boundaries of players, including tackles and punches. Please tell us different. Agreed completely. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Were Detriot and Indiana involved in a heated feud before this incident? The way Wallace reacted to the foul made it seem like it was already a heated feud.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 ^ yes sir. Last year they were the two best teams in the East... they faced off in the conference finals (the real finals), 6 game series, 3 of em down to the wire. In the final game, Artest got called for a costly flagrant foul on Rip Hamilton which may have cost them the game. Things got testy. Detroit won and went on to win it all. There was definately bad blood previously.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Yeah I knew they had experience with each other in the playoffs the last two years. I must've forgot about them getting rough with each other. The Detroit Bad Boys are back, good thing they don't have a Lambier or this would've been uglier.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted November 21, 2004 O'Neal should get a year too. For what?!?! The fan was dumb enough to get on the court, he deserves whatever the fuck he gets. O'Neal should get 2-3 games, MAX. Agree with that. An idiot goes on the court, they deserve a beating. -=Mike
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 geez whatta surprise, the Goblin's an Indiana fan. I've seen you on more than one occasion say you're a Piston fan, as well, since we're going to stoop to playing the team bias card.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 I dunno if ESPN or anybody showed this... But local news here in Detroit is showing a new angle, which clearly shows the guy in blue Wallace warmups and a white hat throwing the cup. It's also has an interview with the guy that STephen Jackson hit. Apparently he was a friend of the guy Artest went after (who was innocent), and saw Artest start attacking his buddy for doing nothing (apparently he then intervened or did something, and jackson dived into the fray and nailed him). The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 The Local 4 Detroit channel is reporting the following suspension lengths: Ben: 4 games Ron Artest: 30 games Jackson & O'Neal: 20 games. Also, they showed a clear, perfect angle of who threw the original cup of beer at Artest and it was the guy with the blue shirt and white hat. The video clearly showed him do a quick and sneaky underhand throw that somehow perfectly hit Artest. The guy then actually stepped to the side when Artest charged at him and allows the innovent guy in the black shirt to take all the blame. They are now trying to look for that guy in the blue shirt and white hat I think.

alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 That guy should go to jail until Artest's suspension is over. It's only fair.

Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 If those suspension lengths are correct Jackson & O'Neal will be back January 6th @ San Antonio, with Artest allowed back January 26th @ Boston.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 Did Tinsley get suspended, too? I just looked at the box score and he didn't play tonight.

Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted November 21, 2004 If those suspension lengths are correct Jackson & O'Neal will be back January 6th @ San Antonio, with Artest allowed back January 26th @ Boston. Aw hell, now that's just begging for something ridiculous to go down when Detroit faces off against Indy on Dec. 25th. The full (as long as they stay healthy) Pistons lineup going up against a Pacers squad missing O'Neal, Artest, AND Jackson.
The Electrifyer 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 If those suspension lengths are correct Jackson & O'Neal will be back January 6th @ San Antonio, with Artest allowed back January 26th @ Boston. I don't know if it was true 100%. The major sites haven't reported anything yet, it was only the Local 4 NBC affiliate in Detroit that reported it.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 21, 2004 If the 20 and 30 game suspensions are accurate, then that's some bullshit. Of course, it is a Detroit station reporting it...mmmhmm

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 The skeptic in me says that Artest and Co. won't be suspended beyond the Christmas game. They HAVE to be back for that one. After all, there are ratings and money to be considered here. I can see giving someone 30 games for attacking a fan outside an arena, or going after some idiot fan who was badmouthing you the whole night. This moron actively threw a beverage at Artest, so I have no sympathy for him.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2004 if Artest had gone after the ACTUAL cup-thrower, would "retaliation/provocation" have entered into Stern's fine lengths, or just ignored??? I gotta wonder, because the new angle video was shown on Local 4 at exactly the time they slipped out the suspension length?

Guest Cerebus Report post Posted November 21, 2004 BTW, the Espn legal analyst (along with my dad who is a lawyer) say that there is no way that Artest can, legally, claim self defense because of the cup throw. Him decking the wrong guy wouldn't help his case either. In addition, expect lawsuits to fly from people who were unlucky enough to get involved in the fray that were completely innocent (like that old lady, the guy O'Neal clocked etc.)
