Guest theanswer1824 Posted December 1, 2004 Report Posted December 1, 2004 really good album. imo, he's on some early public enemy, ice cube hiphop from the golden era of the 90's. this album is refreshing to all the others coming out. he's not afraid to speak his mind (these are our heros) and he's not afraid to open up topics (getting married) that most rappers wouldn't touch with a yard stick. good production: salam remi, q-tip, l.e.s. and nas himself. pretty cool he didn't have to rely on big names to get beats to match his style i think a lot of people will hate this album. i believe that people are trained nowadays to love a certain type of production when it comes to beats and lyrics because it's not in the same vein as anything else out there.

American Way, These Our Heroes, Just a Moment, Reason, and Virgo, are my favorite tracks. I also like how each song especially on the 2nd disc has some continunity to them. The Production is great all around IMO, like you said Answer, Salaam Remi, L.E.S, Q-tip, and Nas himself did a good job. I don't think most people of TSM would like because the album doesn't really have any commercial tracks to get them into the album.
Guest theanswer1824 Posted December 2, 2004 Report Posted December 2, 2004 i don't think TSM has a huge rap/hiphop following all together. and when ever rap topics come up here anyway, it's always about commercial rap. never anything independent or underground. anyone can tell the diffenrce between metallica, blink 182, or the strokes. but when it comes to rap or hiphop, most lump it all together and just say 'rap sucks'. anyone listen non-commercial rap/hiphop on here? I want to see who the true heads are.

Its not like I am debunking Illmatic, besides the sum of its parts are better than any individual song.

Ok, I know you said so far, But this is better then Kanye's album. Matter of fact, I take that back, It's you're opion. This is the CD of the Year for me. I haven't skip any track yet. And people say Nas have weak production on his last 2 albums. This is the best production he had in years.

Anyway, both Lyrics Born's Later That Day and Madvillain's Madvilliany are outstanding "underground" albums. I'm really not digging "Bridging the Gap" all that much. It seems to have absolutely no flow whatsoever.

Black Lushus Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 As expected, an excellent double album...I sat down and listened to all 2 plus hours of it in one sitting and was very impressed...Bridging The Gap is definently one of the best songs on that album, no doubt, as well as the one where he tells Kelis about all the chicks he's fucked...Disc 2 is better than 1, anyone else agree? on a sidenote, at the same time I picked up Royce Da 5'9"s most recent album at the recommendation of my brother and it's pretty decent too, anyone else like this guy?

I would put this up there as one of his best efforts, and the only album that it clearly isn't better than is Illmatic. I also have the newest Royce Lushus.....it's an ok album, but I honestly don't think he is anything special.

I will admit that Royce has skill, but he seems to be too worried trying to keep up with the latest "trends" to make a really breakthrough album.

I dunno, this is not as bad as I feared, but it could've been one disc blah blah blah. Disc two is better overall, though. EDIT: "Remember the Times" is sort of a hip hop "88 Lines About 44 Women."
