ant_7000 0 Report post Posted November 23, 2004 I don't have the double album yet, but i've heard this is close to a 5 mic album. Only song i've heard was the "Bridging the Gap" song with his pops that is blues player. Any thoughts?
ant_7000 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2004 Uppin! I just bought the CD today, I got a chance to listen to a couple of songs and so far they're ok. I'll give my review on it later after a few listenings.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2004 I'm buying it tomorrow. Really looking forward to it.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted December 1, 2004 really good album. imo, he's on some early public enemy, ice cube hiphop from the golden era of the 90's. this album is refreshing to all the others coming out. he's not afraid to speak his mind (these are our heros) and he's not afraid to open up topics (getting married) that most rappers wouldn't touch with a yard stick. good production: salam remi, q-tip, l.e.s. and nas himself. pretty cool he didn't have to rely on big names to get beats to match his style i think a lot of people will hate this album. i believe that people are trained nowadays to love a certain type of production when it comes to beats and lyrics because it's not in the same vein as anything else out there. ant_7000 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 ^ Yea, I like this album it would've been better if it was a single album. American Way, These Our Heroes, Just a Moment, Reason, and Virgo, are my favorite tracks. I also like how each song especially on the 2nd disc has some continunity to them. The Production is great all around IMO, like you said Answer, Salaam Remi, L.E.S, Q-tip, and Nas himself did a good job. I don't think most people of TSM would like because the album doesn't really have any commercial tracks to get them into the album.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 i don't think TSM has a huge rap/hiphop following all together. and when ever rap topics come up here anyway, it's always about commercial rap. never anything independent or underground. anyone can tell the diffenrce between metallica, blink 182, or the strokes. but when it comes to rap or hiphop, most lump it all together and just say 'rap sucks'. anyone listen non-commercial rap/hiphop on here? I want to see who the true heads are.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 2, 2004 anyone listen non-commercial rap/hiphop on here? I want to see who the true heads are. Look around, I think a few of us have thrown quite a few names out there, thug.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 I was thinking about checking this out, but I don't know if I can handle two discs. God's Son was okay, but with his track record, I don't really trust Nas to fill up that much time.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 all i ever see are posts about tupac (and when pac's name comes up, someone ALWAYS mentions biggie) and jay-z. i saw some guy who has dela's cover in his sig so that's cool. but i rarely see consistant hiphop posts in general. anyway, here's what i have in my bag right now: too short: get in where you fit in nas: street's disciple eminem: infinite sage francis: personal journals alchemist: 1st infantry rjd2: deadringer modern day marvels: iron umbrella mixtape vol.1 the grouch: fuck the dumb peace... Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Olu Dara's stroking his son's ego on "Bridging the Gap" isn't quite as embarassing as Momma Hova's orgasming over Jay-Z's learning to ride a bike on "December 4th," but it's still pretty
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Bridging the Gap is Nas' best song ever. I want to listen to Street's Disciple, but I am feeling the same trepidation as Edwin for the exact same reason...
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Bridging the Gap is Nas' best song ever. Oh, please. It's not bad, but 9/10ths of Illmatic is superior. So are "Made You Look" and "Last Real Nigga Alive" from the last album.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Bridging the Gap is Nas' best song ever. Oh, please. It's not bad, but 9/10ths of Illmatic is superior. So are "Made You Look" and "Last Real Nigga Alive" from the last album. oh, please, nothing. Its so different it stands out amongst his other tracks. But I really really dig it. Its not like I am debunking Illmatic, besides the sum of its parts are better than any individual song.
Guest theanswer1824 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 i respect bridging the gap but it's not a song i can bump and play videogames or draw to. i'm with the grittier songs like theif's theme and u.b.r.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 So, you're a gimmick, right?

Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 my only problem with the album is that it's in the good ol' double dong take up too much space casing!
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Just copped the album and so far it's great but not a classic. I love a lot of the first CD, but a few songs on it aen't up to par. Haven't through CD2 well enough to judge yet. Doesn't top Kanye though, so far.
Guest LL Cool M Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Just copped the album and so far it's great but not a classic. I love a lot of the first CD, but a few songs on it aen't up to par. Haven't through CD2 well enough to judge yet. Doesn't top Kanye though, so far. Ok, I know you said so far, But this is better then Kanye's album. Matter of fact, I take that back, It's you're opion. This is the CD of the Year for me. I haven't skip any track yet. And people say Nas have weak production on his last 2 albums. This is the best production he had in years. Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Kanye's album lost its listre quickly. Too much Kanye = bad. I am tired of him. If I see his face again I'll barf. He comes across as a bit player on his own album. Too many guests. Too many skits. Too many videos. Too many hissy fits.
justsoyouknow 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 anyway, here's what i have in my bag right now: nas: street's disciple eminem: infinite Underground as fuck. Anyway, both Lyrics Born's Later That Day and Madvillain's Madvilliany are outstanding "underground" albums. I'm really not digging "Bridging the Gap" all that much. It seems to have absolutely no flow whatsoever.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I just picked it up today and only listened to the first four tracks, so I can't really be fair in judging the album so far. I do like what I've heard though, especially Nas calling Condeleeza Rice an "Uncle Tom."

I do like what I've heard though, especially Nas calling Condeleeza Rice an "Uncle Tom." Then you will love of what he'll say about Kobe(Or should I call him tobe). I'll have my review of the album later tonight.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2004 As expected, an excellent double album...I sat down and listened to all 2 plus hours of it in one sitting and was very impressed...Bridging The Gap is definently one of the best songs on that album, no doubt, as well as the one where he tells Kelis about all the chicks he's fucked...Disc 2 is better than 1, anyone else agree? on a sidenote, at the same time I picked up Royce Da 5'9"s most recent album at the recommendation of my brother and it's pretty decent too, anyone else like this guy? Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted December 4, 2004 This is a very well written album that comes across intelligent especially because of the horrible landscape of mainstream hip hop these days. I would put this up there as one of his best efforts, and the only album that it clearly isn't better than is Illmatic. I also have the newest Royce Lushus.....it's an ok album, but I honestly don't think he is anything special.
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2004 it's nothin special, Kido, I agree, but I hate bling bling rappers so adding another rapper that actually RAPS to my collection is nice...

I will admit that Royce has skill, but he seems to be too worried trying to keep up with the latest "trends" to make a really breakthrough album.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 As expected, an excellent double album...I sat down and listened to all 2 plus hours of it It doesn't even break the 90 minute mark. I dunno, this is not as bad as I feared, but it could've been one disc blah blah blah. Disc two is better overall, though. EDIT: "Remember the Times" is sort of a hip hop "88 Lines About 44 Women."
