Guest Fook_Theta Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Hmm, curious what the top three shoot interviews would be, or even if any on that list are even worth it compared to the other shoot interviews available.

Guest OSIcon Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Hmm, curious what the top three shoot interviews would be, or even if any on that list are even worth it compared to the other shoot interviews available. That depends largely on what wrestlers or era of wrestling you are into. In general, the ROH shoots are as good or better quality wise than a lot of the other shoots out there (especially compared to RF). The interview subjects are miced very well as his the interviewer. The picture quality is good and the limited camera work (such as moving between the members of a tag team depending on who is talking) is fine. The questions are generally good and the interview (the one I've seen) flowed really well. I've heard nothing but good things about the Foley shoot. It is two discs and covers from where his second book left off through the present. He apparently goes line by line in Flair's book, responding to what Flair said about him. I've only seen the Fantastics shoot. It is a MUST have if you are a fan of them. If you are a fan of the era and/or the promotions they worked for, then it is still really good to get. Tommy Rogers and Bobby Fulton both have REALLY good memories of their careers, which you don't see to often, and they cover everything.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Just ordered a few DVDs from 2002. My bank account is already hemorraghing due to Christmas shopping, but c'mon - $12 DVDs, PLUS an extra 20% off? They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Although after this and the DeepDiscountDVD sale from a week or so back, I'm going to be dreading getting that credit bill. Styles 0 Report post Posted December 2, 2004 Well even though my bank account is getting scary low, the Holidays are coming up plus I should be back at my job for Winter Break in a couple weeks, so I went ahead and took advantage of the deal. I already had the first 12 ROH shows (the 2002 shows) from a couple people but decided as long as they had a sale, I'd go ahead and buy the next few from the official store for 12 dollars a pop ($15-20% discount). I got: Revenge on the Prophecy- West Mifflin, PA 1/11/03 (DVD) One Year Anniversary Show- Queens, NY 2/8/03 (2 Tape Set)-on VHS since they were sold out on DVD! Expect the Unexpected- Cambridge, MA 3/15/03 (DVD) Night of the Champions- Philadelphia, PA 3/22/03 (DVD) A little under 60 bucks which is pretty good, especially for a product who's first year I've just gotten done watching and am anxious to see where they go from there (and from what I've read it gets really good). Guest I Just Want To Lurk Report post Posted December 3, 2004 This is the first time I've ever ordered indie videos. I got Straight Shootin' with Tom Prichard (DVD) Joe vs. Punk II- Chicago Ridge, IL 10/16/04 (VHS) Glory By Honor III- Elizabeth, NJ 9/11/04 (DVD) Death Before Dishonor II Pt. 1- Wauwatosa, WI 7/23/04 (DVD) I've been following Samoa Joe for a couple months online but have never seen him wrestle. I've only seen CM Punk once (on a TNA PPV.) I'm psyched to see their match. Hell, I'm psyched to read the results on 12/4. All the hype for it is what made me take the plunge and finally order some tapes. I figure the Pritchard shoot will be more interesting than a hardcover WWE book. Glory By Honor I got for Ultimate Endurance. I have no idea what the stips for UE are but it sounds cool. And the DVD has Mick Foley. I had my doubts about ROH and I really don't want to support someone like Feinstein. Since Foley's there and giving them shoot videos to boot, I know they are on the up and up. Death Before Dishonor has Colt Cabana and Joe / Homicide that I've heard so much about. I am anxious to get these. I feel like I just joined a club.
Guest OSIcon Report post Posted December 3, 2004 This is the first time I've ever ordered indie videos. I got Straight Shootin' with Tom Prichard (DVD) Joe vs. Punk II- Chicago Ridge, IL 10/16/04 (VHS) Glory By Honor III- Elizabeth, NJ 9/11/04 (DVD) Death Before Dishonor II Pt. 1- Wauwatosa, WI 7/23/04 (DVD) For jumping in blind (to an extent), you made some decent choices. The 7/23 show isn't as good as 7/24, but still has some good stuff. Some people really like the Joe/Homicide match and call it the best in their series (it is the last singles match they've had and will have until sometime in 2005). Personally, it wasn't my favorite match in the series as they go a little buts with the kick outs, but I guess it is partially justified given their history. There is a really good six man on that tape with Austin Aires/Roderick Strong/Jack Evans vs. Jimmy Jacobs/John Walters/Matt Stryker. A few other decent matches on it as well, including a solid 2/3 falls tag title match that is really good until falling apart at the end. Glory by Honor III is decent if unspectacular. Lots of good matches, but nothing "blow away". The 10/16 Chicago show is probably the best of the lot. The undercard isn't great, but most everything is "solid". The Romero/Homicide vs. Evans/Strong tag is pretty good as is the Jimmy Jacobs/Alex Shelley "I Quit" match. The main event though is well worth the price of the tape. If you like the Joe/Punk match here, you'll definitely want to go back and pick up 6/12 to watch their first 60 minute draw. It'll help you appreciate and enjoy their 10/16 rematch even more. Haven't seen the Pritchard shoot interview but I was thinking about picking it up, so I'd be interested in eharing your thoughts after you get a chance to watch it. Guest Evolution Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I too would recommend DBD II Pt. 2 in Chicago Ridge in the place of DBD II Pt. 1. There's nothing on that show that I would define as a bad match, and nothing below "slightly above average".

Slingshot Suplex 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Between buying two dozen Gateway Championship Wrestling tapes, the ROH sale and the pending IWA-MS double shot next weekend dvd buy, I'm gonna be burned out. But I picked up the DVDs of Cornette Secrets ,Testing the Limit , DBD2 pt 2, World Title Classic and ....damn...something else from July that I'm blanking on. I'm interested to hear what he says. GBH3 and DBD2 Pt 1 are both good shows...not GREAT shows but good shows. So if you like those shows, there are better ROH shows out there. I STRONGLY advise getting 7/24, Death Before Dishonor 2 Pt. 2 as it's a great show with lots of great matches. Generation Next, World Title Classic (which has Joe vs. Punk #1, and the first ever Ultiamate Endurance match), and Survival of the Fittest from May and June are great shows too. But yeah...enjoy. Guest I Just Want To Lurk Report post Posted December 3, 2004 Right after I put the order in I saw a bunch of people recommend DBD night two. D'oh! I put all of you guys' recommendations from this thread in a text file for the next time I order. Gonna put a PWG order in next paycheck first, though. I want to see some Colt Cabana. IIRC, people say he can be really funny when he gets mic time. Am I confusing him with someone else? If not, what would a good show to order to see him shine? Guest OSIcon Report post Posted December 3, 2004 I want to see some Colt Cabana. IIRC, people say he can be really funny when he gets mic time. Am I confusing him with someone else? If not, what would a good show to order to see him shine? Cabana had his own "talk show" segment on most of the home releases called "Good Times, Great Memories." He's been working an injury angle since August (he has really been in the UK wrestling) so there hasn't been one in a while and I can't remember if he had done one in the few shows before he left. That's your best place to go for Cabana on the mic. I don't really remember a whole lot as to which tapes have the "best" "Good Times, Great Memories". Pretty much though, if you get any of the tapes from the end of 2003 to May 2004, in all likely hood he will have a "Good Times, Great Memories" segment on the tape. His mic work is good, but in my opinion, is in-ring comedy is his strong point. Survival of the Fittess (6/24/04) is a good example of that has he works a decent comedy match with Trent Acid (having a decent match iof any kind with Acid is not easy) and then plays his role to perfection in the six-way elimination main event. Not sure if there is a "Good Times, Great Memories" on that show or not.

IIRC, people say he can be really funny when he gets mic time. Am I confusing him with someone else? If not, what would a good show to order to see him shine? Wrath of the Racket for August 2003 has several backstage skits with Cabana and Ace Steel that are very funny. If you want newer stuff, DBD2 Night two has Joe vs. Cabana for the world title, though there's not much comedy, just a good title match. If you want skits and comedy, I know there's a little skit on the World Title Classic show, and it's pretty damn funny when Cabana comes out to "Superfreak" right after Rick James' death at Testing the Limits. Oh, and there's a funny live "Great Times, Good Memories" on The Last Stand, from January 2004. Posting on the ROH board would probably get you some great responses from people who know more than me. Tawren 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2004 Despite my intense dislike of ROH, I broke down and got: Generation Next 5/22/04 Survival Of the Fittest 6/24/04 Glory By Honor 3 9/11/04 Joe vs Punk 2 10/16/04 Weekend of Thunder Night 1 11/5/04 Why? I really don't know. I could have done what I usually do and got 1st gens of these for about 35, tops, rather than the 114 I spent. Masters are masters, though, so I went for it. Fuck. Oh well, not like I would have spent the money on anything productive anyways.

PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2004 You intensely dislike ROH but watch a lot of their shows? Hate the attitude, often love the wrestling. That about sums it up for my stance on ROH. WHAT!!! how dare you hate ROH's clearly perfect attitude! You are just jealous because you know they are better than you and whatever bush league 3rd rate promotions you watch! Gabe is a genius-4-ever! DANGEROUS!!! CLASSIC! MOTYC! CHRIS HERO SUX! Umm... did I mention Gabe was a genius? Cuz he is! Actually, yeah I feel the same way. In fact I think I'd love ROH if they gave you an option to remove the commentary at least (which IMO, gets on your nerves in a major way. Well, at least it does mine, BTW please don't reply with reasons why it's good, because I don't care... just an opinion)
Guest I Just Want To Lurk Report post Posted December 5, 2004 So PWG's commentary is better? 'Cuz that's my next order. Probably after the holidays. Pimpin in High Places is first on the list because I have a burning need to hear someone say they will jump out of a toilet with a brick. When I go back to good matches, I usually listen to CDs. You loose the crowd noise and the planks in the mat but it cancels out lame commentary. Is ROH's "I'm better than you" commentary on the same level as say, Lawler and puppies? I won't get my first tapes until next week.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 ROH's commentary isn't that bad, as Punk and Nulty have been good on color commentary recently, I think. Gabe is kind of annoying at times as play by play man, but oh well.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 If your looking for in-depth commentary on the matches and good play-by-play PWG's commentary isn't really the place to go. It's not so much talking on the matches as it is Excalibur and Disco sharing humorous stories and anecdotes and such with an incidental at best connection to the match, and whenever they do talk on the match it's mostly just a lead-in to more semi-related humor. Saying that it's still the best thing ever. And PWG's DVD's give you the option of turning the commentary off if you don't like it, which honestly is probably better for focusing on the matches since several times i've found myself laughing more at Excalibur and losing track completely on the match i'm supposed to be watching.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 I'd really love it if ROH DVDs let you turn off commentary. The dubbed over commentary takes away the sound from the shows as it is. It's nice to be able to hear things, which is why I wish they did live commentary or something.
Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Hopefully I can manage to get some money and finish off 2002 as far as DVDs and maybe get a few from 2003. At least before the $75 version of this is over. I wish their sales would last longer though.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 Hey, anyone here seen MLW's "War Games" show from Sept 2003? RoH is selling it. I was kind of interested in picking it up, eventually, because......yeah, I'm an War Games mark.

Guest JJW Report post Posted December 11, 2004 I'm ordering 4 dvd's, Joe/punk 2 definitely, but what 3 other shows are the best from 2004?
Michrome 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2004 Depends on what you like. I say get 7/24 and 10/2 definitely. For a third, if you like technical classic type matches get 4/24 for Dragon-Homicide. If you want a pretty fun overall mix get Reborn: Completion which has 2 stellar main events and 2 great angles. World Title Classic is good too, because it's the first Punk-Joe. Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted December 11, 2004 I'll be picking up quite a bit of stuff in a few days but I'll just be going in the order the shows happened. I'm an idiot like that. Now i'm heading out to my neighbor's to watch a probable shitfest in wwe Armageddon.
