Any news yet on Kill Bill 1&2

I have held out now for awhile, hoping there would be at least some news about it, so I could keep holding out. I wonder if that was all just hype or what not. I am sure both will eventually get their respective special editions with loads of extras, but I wonder if QT still has plans to release them as on flick.

I hope so, I'd get it. Especially if Quentin does some editing and tinkering to make em flow as one... Kill Bill was two entertaining but unbalanced and unfulfilling films. One had all action and practically no story, and the other all story with practically no action. Err... the best films are clearly the ones which meld action and story and character seamlessly.

Miramax will likely release two seperate special collectors double disc ultimate deluxe versions of each part and then 2 months after those come out, they will release a Director's Cut version and then 4 months later, they will do a Ultimate Super Duper Triple Disc Platiumn edition of Director Cut's version of Kill Bill.

 

Wait about 3 years before you pick this movie up.

I just waited until both were on sale at Target, and I wasn't going to buy Vol. 1 when it first came out because I wasn't waiting six or so months for Vol. 2 to be released in theaters, pay $ to see it in the cinema, then buy the DVD.

 

Oh, related question. When Uma was killing all those baddies in Vol. 1, toward the end she's fighting a few in the dark. Who turned off and on those lights? I can't get a good shot of her, but my guess is "Charlie Brown's wife..."

Good idea--I've been being wary of doing that when they were putting out the huge boxes with the first one out, when it's basically set in stone that it's at least going to be a trilogy.

I'll be waiting. I definitely want the definitive movie as a whole, even if I have to wait another year. Plus, I'm poor again after dropping a C-note on DeepDiscountDVD.

I vaguely remember an interview with one of the heads of Miramax, and he flat out said that Kill Bill gave them the opportunity to basically triple or quadruple dip. I'll try to find it, but i'm not sure where it was. IGN maybe?

April 21, 2004 - As if their mishandling of Hong Kong films isn't enough, now Miramax is openly bragging about multiple dips on titles. In a lengthy story in the Tuesday edition of the New York Times, titled Studios Cash in on DVD Boom, a Miramax executive seemed to gloat over multiple dips on Kill Bill.

 

While the story doesn't cover a whole lot that's new to DVD collectors, there is one comment from Miramax's chief operating officer that's both galling and insulting. He reports that Miramax is planning to release no less than a half-dozen different DVDs for Kill Bill.

 

"This is the beauty of having two volumes," said Rick Sands in the Times. "Volume 1 goes out, Volume 2 goes out, then Volume 1 Special Edition, Volume 2 Special Edition, the two-pack, then the Tarantino collection as a boxed set out for Christmas. It's called multiple bites at the apple."

 

No, it's called screwing your audience. New Line and Peter Jackson got away with the LotR double dips because a) they gave us the basic edition with enough material to keep some people happy, b) the extended edition gave us new footage, new soundtracks and tons of extras, and most important, c) they told us ahead of time these were coming.

 

Sands, on the other hand, is shamelessly and openly gloating at how much money he can get out of the fan base. But at least fans aren't biting on that apple. Two-third polled here on IGN DVD said they would wait for the special edition.

 

DVD has created a culture of film collection that was unseen in the VHS world. Sure, some people built libraries, but the tapes are big and bulky and degrade. DVD has none of those drawbacks. So a new culture has sprung up, reflected in people even keeping track of their DVD collections on DVD Afficionado and Guzzlefish (IGN will eventually have this feature, too).

 

To openly gloat about how many times you can squeeze the fan base for a disc is a disgrace. As it is, studios have a hard enough time doing a disc properly (Manhunter, anyone?). It should go without saying that willful double dipping should not be tolerated.

 

Sadly, while the story spent a lot of time discussing what a hit Office Space was on DVD, they made no mention on whether a special edition of that was in the works, and that's one of the most requested titles among IGN DVD readers.

Well to me They're not. I think it comes from me being older and having seen various stuff over the years so there's absolutely nothing special about the movie to me and this coming from someone who wanted to love the movie coming in. Samurai Jack does what Kill Bill tries to do a million times better anyway.

 

But enjoy. It's not wasting your money if you like the movie. I just had to get my complete and utter disapointment of these movies out of my system. Carry on.

You see, THAT's what I was dissapointed with. I was dissapointed with the style oozing and the new age cool bit. Didn't work for me although I did enjoy some of the music in it.

Kill Bill is Quentin Tarantino letting the creative juices flow, reminiscent of his previous work but making the narrative off-cuts.

Actually, I've no opinion on that show. I've seen it a few times. Some guy walks around and fights stuff. If that's your thing then cool...

The movies were excellent all the way up until Kiddo goes to Mexico to find Bill. That brought the high-octane, exciting, fun movie into basically David Carradine going into a monotone soliloquoy that just completely lost my interest. Heartbreak, pregnancy, cutesy stuff, aw Kiddo has a daughter.. Wah, wah. It just ruined the entire series for me.
