Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2004 I can't wait. I already heard "The Widow" which is a good song, in the vein of "Televators".

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 The a, b, c, etc. represent movements within the song. was what got me really excited. Though I'll admit I like the potential implicit in a song called "Multiple Spouse Wounds." That title is already better than anything they've ever done to this point. Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 This would be interesting and innovative if prog rock hadn't existed for 35 years and the Mars Volta weren't a bunch of pretentious wanks.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Better than Sparta, though. At least in my mind.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Better than Sparta, though. At least in my mind. That's kind of like talking about Eichmann and being all "better than Goering, though, at least in my mind."
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Meh, their first album was cool. Kinda like prog with an edge.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Are these guys King Crimson masturbatory or Dream Theater masturbatory? Because I like one and not the other, and have never bothered with this band.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 Acid trip masturbatory. "are you peaking in the red perforated at the neck what of this mongrel architect a broken arm of sewers set past present and future tense clipside of the pinkeye fountain "
Guest JebusNassedar Report post Posted December 13, 2004 The only way I've ever been able to describe The Mars Volta is Acid Salsa. They're closer to King Crimson than Dream Theater, only I'm moderately sure their live show is more dynamic than either. King Crimson, from pictures I've seen, have a liking for outlandish sets to go with the music, where as Mars Volta is just five guys on a stage pouring everything into their music. The entire band just goes wild when they play. As far as Sparta goes, I don't find them terribly offensive. Better than a lot of emo out there, but that says little. I thought Wiretap Scars as a whole was pretty good. EDIT: Now that I think about it, the singing's closer to Dream Theater than KC. Hm.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2004 I hate Dream Theater with a passion, yet I like Mars Volta.

Because I like one and not the other, and have never bothered with this band. King Crimson, mainly in that the Mars Volta aren't a metal band like Dream Theater.
