Vince Carter traded?

The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors are in serious talks about a trade that would send Vince Carter to the Nets, several league sources told ESPN Insider Chad Ford on Friday.

The Raptors would acquire Alonzo Mourning, Eric Williams, Aaron Williams and two first round draft picks in exchange for Carter. According to those same sources, the talks have moved to the point that they could be finalized before the end of the day.

All trades must be approved by the league office and players must pass physicals before they can become official. Carter is currently on the injured list with a strained left Achilles' tendon suffered last Friday and is to miss at least five games.

If the trade goes through, it would be the most serious indication yet that the Nets want to keep Jason Kidd and are willing to build a championship contender around him. After the offseason trades of Kenyon Martin and Kerry Kittles, Kidd expressed his displeasure with the direction the Nets were taking. However, with Carter on board, the Nets have a shot at moving back into contention.

According to one source, Kidd was briefed on the trade and thinks Carter will be a strong addition to the team.

A backcourt of Kidd, Carter and Richard Jefferson is a highlight reel waiting to happen. However the Nets will be very thin up front. After the trade, the Nets would have just Jason Collins, Brian Scalabrine and rookie Nenad Kristic to play on the front line. The move has more interesting implications for the Raptors. Both Aaron and Eric Williams are the type of players that Sam Mitchell is after. They are tough, blue collar guys who will play their hearts out. Mourning gives them some size at the five that they desperately need. However, it will be interesting to see how Mourning reacts to the trade.

He's been asking out of New Jersey all season because he wants to play for a contender. Whatever you think about this trade for Toronto, it's tough to say that it turns them into a playoff caliber team. Instead, the Raptors are trying to surround their star young player, Chris Bosh, with solid, veteran players who play the right way. The two first round picks should help them rebuild.

The Nets currently have in hand their own first round pick, the Sixers first round pick (top 8 protected) and the Clippers first rounder (top 14 protected). It wasn't clear immediately which picks would be headed to Toronto in the trade.

What a swerve.

It will be interesting to see how different his game is if this trade goes through. He was doing nothing but sulking, basically doing everything he could to get traded. I would expect to see a vast improvement in his game with Kidd and Jefferson there to take the pressure off of him.

I assumed that

a)Carter has a no-trade clause, and

b)he won't waive it to play in Jersey

He doesn't have a no-trade clause. Babcock has basically said that he's getting the best return possible for Carter and if he ends up on a crap team, he can pull a Ricky Williams for all he cares.

Anyways, Aaron Williams is a C/PF who doesn't seem to be good or bad at anything. In the last year of his contract, so he's probably a candidate to be released. If not him, then probably Pape Sow. Eric Williams I suppose would help, but at this point I think if Mourning can play centre it helps Chris Bosh out a ton.

Good riddance, Vince. Enjoy the swamp with Eli...

Carter's going to trip and fall before he even gets out of the airport in Newark.

Which will of course give him a season ending injury.

Vince Carter will probably break a few fingers, his wrist, and dislocate an elbow shaking the Nets Presidents hand. Whoever signs him is either very desperate, or just like wasting money. Seeing how the Nets suck, I'll put them under the desperate category.

Dumping Alonzo and gaining Carter is like getting rid of a shit stain and gaining a pile of crap.

When Healthy VinceCarter's upside is great. Especially in that Net fast-paced offense. He could go back to averaging 22-25 PPG.

They do dump Alonzo Mourning's contract in this whole mess, so there is a rational reason behind it.

Carter's contract is alot worse and they could have gotten a pretty decent player in return for Eric Williams who is one of the best 6th men in the league.

Mourning's still got a year after this one, so they can't dump it.

According to the Toronto Star, F Jerome Moiso was waived, and the devastating rookie combo of Hoffa and Sow got turf toe or something and are on the IR.

I really don't care where Vince Carter ended up.

I don't care if he's in L.A.

Where he can hang 'round stars all day;

I don't care if he's Portland-bound,

Or Cleveland, home of the Dawg Pound;

The Mavericks, Trail Blazers, Jazz?

Maybe to Washington's pizzazz?

Does it mean a shit? Nope, no way, no.

I really don't care where Carter goes.

To Memphis' crooning, Phoenix blazing,

Indy and their barnyard raising?

Maybe New Orleans and their brass?

Nope, that would make them suck more ass.

To Seattle's rain or Minny's bears?

Rob could send him anywhere!

Philly's nuts and Detroit's twisted,

And I forgot Golden State existed,

But even they could take this lunk,

This overpaid, oft-injured punk.

Or to the Heat to play with Shaq,

Assuming their GM smokes crack.

So it is clear to all who see

This absurd piece of poetry

That I don't care where Carter goes,

As long as he doesn't stay in Toronto.

That is all.

Wow- so I was happy Vince might get traded since I got sick of reading about him everyday in the Star.

So of course the player I hate the most in the NBA gets traded to my favourite team.

This fucking sucks and I hate life. I'm glad we got rid of Kidney Boy but I loved AW.

Why don't go follow a new team and buy their hat?

I'm sure it's not to late to hop on the Seattle Bandwagon.

I'm certain Dama is having problems deciding which team is is "all time" favorite team this year...Seattle or Dallas or The spunky Trailblazers.

At least Bob has proof he liked the shitty nets before hand...we won't blame you bob if you denouce the raps and nets to join a new bandwagon.

If he's bandwagon scouting, tell him to stay away from Dallas. I've been a fan of theirs since the Jason Kidd days, and I can tell you that they're going nowhere this year. Dampier's an overrated piece of shit that's not gonna do a damn thing come playoff time. All they had to do was trade Nowitzki and whoever the Lakers wanted for Shaq, and then pay Nash whatever he wanted to come back. Boom. Two or three rings, just like that. But no, we're building for the future so that when Josh Howard, Marquis Daniels, and Devin Harris are ready to be bonafide stars, Nowitzki will be ready to sign with Memphis or something.
