Slovakia 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2004 That's weird. I was pretty sure Bulls games are available on the superstation as well as local channel 9. I mean, I know Cubs games are. Why do baseball and the NBA have such a problem with nationally televised Bulls, Cubs, and Braves games? I know it's gone to court in the leagues' efforts to scale them back significantly. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 23, 2004 Here is a really fun article by Bill Simmons of ESPN Page2, suggesting that Kobe Bryant should follow the career path of Hulk Hogan http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/041222 Funny thing is, I somewhat agree with him since there's pretty much nothing he can do to save face anymore, and Simmons basically says it out when he says that the more genuine he's trying to be, the more he's perceived as phony. So why even bother? I still think it's moronic to judge someone by what they're assume they're acting like and not anything else. Particularly that whole paragraph about the Clipper game. That's bullshit. Kobe can't do a damn thing without being ostracized for it. Even when he's being a good guy. Everyone also seems to believe that Shaq kicking Kobe's ass this Saturday is a foregone conclusion. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2004 I'll be watching the Heat/Laker game moreso because I'm a huge hoops fan and not because of the Kobe/Shaq Dynasty/Falcon Crest drama the NBA and ABC are drumming up. The game will mean something to Heat and Laker fans, but in the end, it won't reflect on the bottom line-the NBA Championship. The Heat MIGHT make it to the finals and the Lakers WON'T make it to the finals, so this game is kinda just the drama. Being the huge hoops fanatic I am, I will be interested to see Kobe matching back up with former mentor Eddie Jones as well as the handful of Wade/Kobe matchups that will take place. Shaq and Kobe won't engage unless Kobe attacks the rim, which he will, but again, it's not like the Lakers automatically win the title or get a playoff birth if Kobe dunks on Shaq and it's not like the Heat are entitled to a ticket to the Finals if Shaq dumps 40 and 20 on his old team. I do feel bad for the Laker big men because Shaq will be motivated and Mihm, Odom, or whoever they throw at him is just not going to be enough. I actually thought the Lakers would win on X-mas, but with Caron Butler possibly getting suspended for the game for punching Dan Dickau last night, I think the Heat just recieved the advantage. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted December 24, 2004 Swear to God, the Kings may be the most spineless team in the league. They fall apart repeatedly at a moments notice. Just ridiculous.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 24, 2004 Caron Butler punched Dan Dickau??!? Yeah punched him right in the gut, and I tihnk kicked him while he was down? This is from the AP Recap- Butler was ejected for appearing to take a swing at Dan Dickau with 3 1/2 minutes left after Dickau tripped Butler. The trip didn't appear to be intentional. Butler denied trying to punch Dickau and said he didn't believe he'd receive a suspension. If he does, it'll be for Saturday's game. ``It was just a natural reaction to pull him off my leg,'' Butler said. ``That was it. I've known Dan for a while, he's a cool dude.'' Dickau said he didn't know why Butler got ejected. ``It was no big deal,'' Dickau said. ``I kind of got into a crease and didn't make the right decision and we kind of got tangled up. I think my arm must have gotten wrapped around his leg a little bit and he must have thought that I was trying to do something a little more than what I did, obviously. It's too bad he got ejected. I mean, it wasn't anything intentional.'' I don't think that's suspension worthy if obviously both players didn't care about it.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2004 Methinks this is just spin control by Butler. On the replay, he clearly punched Dickau in the gut and would've done a lot more had he not been restrained by his teammates. Butler is just trying to cover his ass because the Lakers really need him on Sat. and he knows he won't be there now that he is officially suspended for the game. The Kings performance last night was pitiful. I was particularly disgusted that they got nothing going to the paint in the fourth. If you wanna talk about some bullshit, how about Doug Christie getting ejected after his collision with Wade. I know it's because it was his second tech, but he shouldn't have recieved the second technical. I think it was just a collision, and the refs blew it out of proportion. The collapse wouln't have seemed so bad had Shaq been hitting free throws, he was 3 for 13 from the line last night. Had he hit more, I don't think the game would've seemed so close. Kings really are thin on the bench and with Jackson not playing now for 3 months, this hurts them quite a bit. They'll still make the playoffs, but I think they are playoff contenders, not championship contenders.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2004 I know it's been said a thousand times, but letting Vlade go was really stupid, he was that team's glue. Even with him they weren't a tough enough team to win the close ones, now they really have no chance.

Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Yeah, like Vlade's done SO much for the Lakers. He has what, maybe 30 minutes total this season? Did you even read what I said? Who said a fucking thing about LA? He was the glue IN SACRAMENTO, the Lakers are Kobe's team.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 The point is valid. What good would Vlade do in Sacramento when he can't play? Motivate them off the bench? Hell of a way to spend a few million bucks.
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Yeah, smartass.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 Who says he can't play? He had a fluke back injury, one of the few semi-serious injurys in his career, and LA is bringing him along slow because they have Mihm/Grant, want Vlade to get a better feel for the team, and don't need to test their luck by putting him out there right now. They obviously aren't paying him all that money to cheer from the bench, and you can bet he'll be up to 25 minutes a night down the stretch and play an important role the playoffs. My point still stands. His value to Sacramento couldn't be measured in dollars, he was the TEAM LEADER, the motivator, and the buffer between Webber and Peja, and the fact that Sacramento is more or less off the map in terms of contenders really hits that point home. The Maloofs have a lot of money, they can afford to slightly overpay certain players, they can afford the luxury tax, and they put that money to work by.........signing Greg Ostertag? Fuck that. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 What good is Divac's supposed team leadership when it couldn't get the Kings to the NBA Finals? Wouldn't it then be time to try something different? And why is Divacs leadership so fragile that it can't help the Lakers? What makes it such a vauge skill, that it only works in this one situation? Team leadership is b.s. It has little effect on a team's success. It's just an excuse to overpay media darlings.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2004 *yawn* Saying team leadership is bs is bs, it's just an excuse for stat geeks to put themselves over. If you'd ever actually played a team sport, been a part of a team, rather than being a mark for them, you'd know the score. Vlade was valuable to the Kings, end of story. If you say he wasn't, and you say losing him didn't hurt, you're full of bullshit. Is he valuable to LA? NO, because it's Kobe's team, he's an afterthought, and he's only there for money/sentiment anyway. It was a bad signing by LA given the makeup of their organization, but for whatever reason they felt it was a save face move after letting Shaq go. Was he valuable to Sacto? Yes, because neither Peja or Webber has a dominant personality and Vlade was WITHOUT QUESTION the reason they were ever as good as they were. The whole team concept, "greatest show on court," that all started with Vlade, he was the man for them. If you can't see or admit that it simply, frankly, means that you're not very knowledgeable about the game. Ask C-Webb and Peja how they feel about Vlade leaving, Peja especially. Ask ANY coach in the league, especially Pete Carill, how those Sacramento teams operated so well. The FIRST THING I SAID was that even with Vlade they weren't good enough to get over the hump, I SAID IT FIRST, doesn't change the fact that they're further from the rings without him and are a much weaker team...... Save a complete rebuilding, which is more or less impossible with Webber on the books, this team cannot contend as is. Did letting Vlade walk get them closer? Are they really saving any money in the big picture? No and no. It was a bad move, and I can't believe anyone here is dumb enough to defend it, ESPECIALLY considering they gave almost the same contract Vlade got to Greg Ostertag, the anti-contributor.
